- powerhouse, on 03/31/2008, -0/+61It couldn't have happened to a better company. Hopefully punitive damages are awarded like they are against consumers.
- ssj2119, on 03/31/2008, -0/+60RIAA: "...*****"
- YodaJones, on 03/31/2008, -0/+45Well, isn't this interesting...the pot indeed calling the kettle black.
- ZeroSumDivide, on 03/31/2008, -0/+26I am Jack's complete lack of surprise.
- jcannonb, on 03/31/2008, -1/+24I wonder if one of their on root-kit style DRM protectors caught them redhanded and reported to the proper authorities? This really is the cat's meow.
- mCanada, on 03/31/2008, -0/+21Dear Microsoft Anti-piracy: I have done some calculations to assist you in your lawsuit against Sony - BMG, please see enclosed: General and punitive damages for "pirated mp3's" have amounted to nearly $250,000. In some cases that's nearly $10,000 per $1.00 mp3. Since your windows software retails at nearly $200 - $400 per copy, I would recommend seeking general damages at a proportionate rate ie. $10,000 X $250 (minimum) per copy pirated = 2.5 Million per copy. Punitive damages will be bonus. This is simply proportionate to the record industry president in the legal system and well with in possibility. Call my people and I will rigorously fight for your ip rights!
- Smwbigboss, on 03/31/2008, -1/+22This is why I boycott all Sony products. I always hear people saying "***** the RIAA" but they keep buying products from Sony, Universal, Warner, etc. If you want to do something about it, boycott.
- Powerking89670, on 03/31/2008, -1/+18No. The site says the company caught it when the sony ITs called in for tech support. The key they used mustve been on a black list.
- headzoo, on 03/31/2008, -0/+16"the employee has the necessary funding to buy the software he needs, he will"
That's kind of how I figure this stuff happens. An employee needs X software, but is afraid management with say "no" to spending $800 on it. So he just pirates it. I've found myself in the same situation, but rather than pirate the software, I find alternatives. - Drkgodess, on 03/31/2008, -0/+16Karma is a bitch!
- calgone, on 03/31/2008, -0/+15And obviously the damages awarded should be about 70x the value of the pirated materials...
- norman619, on 03/31/2008, -0/+14Stolen? You mean arstechnica.com stole the article from slash dot? Are you ***** serious? I guess all the news networks steal their news as well.

- oatdc, on 03/31/2008, -0/+10Sony BMG, where "Do As I Say, Not As I Do" couldn't be more true!
- mojojeetsoo, on 03/31/2008, -0/+10Don't you just wish there was some way that a defendant of one of their copyright infringement cases could use information to win in the courtroom?
I sure do. - WomensUnderwear, on 03/31/2008, -0/+9AND MONSTER CABLE
- xerox, on 03/31/2008, -1/+10...did I miss where it mentions BitTorrent anywhere on the page?
- banmaster, on 03/31/2008, -0/+8And besides, its the OTHER way around.
Its Sony that keep on ragging on 'teh torrentz' regarding stolen IP but then they steal ***** themselves! - norman619, on 03/31/2008, -1/+9It's correct no matter the order.
- piXelatedEmpire, on 03/31/2008, -0/+7The hypocrisy of these large corporations disgusts me.
- Bobombom, on 03/31/2008, -1/+8BOOYA!
- BobaFettTDG, on 04/01/2008, -0/+7Sony: It's not piracy if we do it.
- LongShlong, on 03/31/2008, -0/+7Insert Nelson-Muntz-style, 'Haw haw!"
- bjornski, on 03/31/2008, -0/+6Good thing they didn't examine TicketMaster. When I worked there, about 85% of the software was pirated.
- paperclipsNsoup, on 03/31/2008, -0/+6And to them I say HA!
- yeskia, on 04/01/2008, -0/+6JACK THOMPSON?
- Stormwern, on 04/01/2008, -1/+6and I haven't forgiven them for the spyware thing yet..
- paperclipsNsoup, on 03/31/2008, -2/+7Coming from slash dot doesn't make it stolen you sphincter stuffer. Thats like saying its old cause it was on fark yesterday
- Trel, on 04/01/2008, -0/+5Only 70?
- Amric, on 04/01/2008, -0/+5"Call my people and I will rigorously fight for your ip rights!"
For a small fee of course... shall we say 10%? ;)
I don't think it was Windows software that was pirated here thought but som kind of administrative program used in windows so your calculations might just be a little incorrect, but only a million or two ;) - inactive, on 03/31/2008, -0/+5Thats what you get for the whole root kit idea sony, karma works in mysterious ways.
- bjornski, on 03/31/2008, -1/+6So what. That one didn't make the front page. Quit whining.
"Wah! I submitted this too! I want credit!" - etx313, on 04/01/2008, -0/+4Oh yes, Self ownage at its finest.
- ZachSka87, on 04/01/2008, -0/+4Probably they will want a legal team that can properly spell "precedent"
- masbestiaquetu, on 03/31/2008, -0/+4owned
- SpectralSounds, on 03/31/2008, -0/+4It's not a surprise at all to me. Greed is what motivates a good majority of these companies. If you think this has anything to do with morals, you are ***** stupid. Sony wants more money, they can't get it when their stuff is pirated and they can save it when they pirate stuff.... The End.
- Raerth, on 03/31/2008, -0/+3This gives me a warm fuzzy feeling
- jcannonb, on 03/31/2008, -3/+6I was being sarcastic more than anything making more of a reference to their two facedness on the whole piracy issue.
- Briankh3, on 04/01/2008, -0/+3"if the consumer has the necessary funding to buy the music, he will"
That's kind of how I figure this stuff happens. A consumer needs X music, but his middle-class budget says "no" to spending $12-$18 on it. So he just pirates it. I've found myself in the same situation, but rather than pirate the music, I find alternatives. - askewed, on 04/01/2008, -0/+2Makes me chuckle every time I see those statements.
- Winston84, on 04/01/2008, -0/+2Sony didn't do it on purpose, the pirated software was installed by a root-kit ..
wait, Sony makes root-kits ? - inactive, on 04/01/2008, -0/+2So they wont mind me using their Audio gear then////
- cello, on 04/01/2008, -0/+2"***** the Sony" ?
"***** the Creative" ? - rahein, on 04/01/2008, -0/+1I'm glad Sony got what was coming to them.
DRM and anti-piracy software will never fix the problem. Sony changing some of its policies may stop a lot of it apparently. - humptyz, on 04/01/2008, -0/+1Porn starlets
Mmm, porn.... - Briankh3, on 04/01/2008, -0/+1"if the consumer has the necessary funding to buy the music, he will"
That's kind of how I figure this stuff happens. A consumer needs X music, but his middle-class budget says "no" to spending $12-$18 on a CD. So he just pirates it. I've found myself in the same situation, but rather than pirate the music, I find alternatives. - CoreyBaehman, on 04/01/2008, -0/+1What makes this even more disgusting is that they are stealing from a small company made of 6 people.
That small company probably needs all the money it can get JUST TO STAY IN BUSINESS. - inactive, on 04/01/2008, -0/+1when will these idiots realise it was only a matter of time before they get bust..
