- Falldog, on 02/18/2008, -8/+344Step 1: Tell your friends that HD-DVD won the war
Step 2: Sell them your disks
Step 3: Profit - harlowsmonkeys, on 02/18/2008, -30/+168Presumably, they will buy new Blu-Ray players (or hybrid players). Amusingly, just like the early Blu-Ray adaptors will need new players to play some newer discs... :-)
- sjbdallas, on 02/18/2008, -10/+124First, i'm going to buy any HD-DVDs that are on steep discounts because that's still cheaper than buying a blu-ray player. Then, i'm going to wait until enough movies I want to buy are only available on blu-ray (not dvd that I can upconvert) and buy a blu-ray player at that point. Regrettably, my HD-DVD player will eventually have to go in the closet with my Panasonic LaserDisc player (screw me twice).
- jackpot, on 02/18/2008, -5/+99Watch my movies?
- Konrad9, on 02/18/2008, -5/+93I'm going to wait for the HD-DVD firesale and buy an asston of high definition movies at low prices.
- aaron117, on 02/18/2008, -5/+75I hate they way the media sort of makes up the fact that we can no longer watch HD-DVD's because Blu Ray won.
Im still going to use the damn thing for christ sake. - jamminman, on 02/18/2008, -2/+64?????
- Lochie, on 02/18/2008, -2/+63Who needs friends when you're the only person around with a Blu-Ray player?
- loganhid, on 02/18/2008, -7/+65HA!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePcCPtryCfU - UtahApocalyse, on 02/18/2008, -2/+59I plan to continue downloading and watching everything on my PC
- bdbr, on 02/18/2008, -3/+60Hell of a friend you are.
- Retnuh730, on 02/18/2008, -3/+50I don't know about you guys, but the canning of HD DVD just means i can pick up Heroes on it for that much cheaper. HD DVD still has a lot of movies that stores will be wanting to get rid of and i'll be happy to buy. Bargain bins ftw.
- bonkeykong, on 02/18/2008, -9/+53you forgot a step
- mintynomad, on 02/18/2008, -3/+46I still don't know when I'm going to upgrade from VHS.
- bjornski, on 02/18/2008, -11/+50Step 4: Lose friends because you're an ***** who lied to, and took advantage of them.
- wmelnick, on 02/18/2008, -22/+59You comment is incorrect. Every Blu-Ray player will be able to play every disc in the future. What they will not be able to do is take advantage of some of hte additional features, such as PIP commentary tracks, which require the updated levels of compatibility.
The majority of us (apparently) who bought a PS3 to watch Blu-ray discs will be able to update via software for the additional features, but nobody will be in a position where they will not be able to watch any movie that comes out. - dagamer34, on 02/18/2008, -2/+38Stupid people don't realize that if you buy a player + movies at rock bottom prices because people will be jumping ship, they will get an AMAZING bargain.
Oh, and watch Sony keep the prices of Blu-ray players where they are for a few years since there is now no incentive to decrease prices. - Shroomie, on 02/18/2008, -0/+31They're probably going to keep watching the HD DVD's they already have, and quite possibly pick up more when they all go on clearance.
- afx1, on 02/18/2008, -4/+32get some friends
- VinnieDaMac, on 02/18/2008, -1/+28Step 5: find new friends.
- zetec, on 02/18/2008, -3/+28The "Porn wins the format war" argument became null and void about the same time the internet gained popularity. VHS was porn's godsend because it was the first way, aside from nudie mags, to get porn in the home cheaply and efficiently, where privacy can be maintained. Recall that before VHS/Betamax, people had to drive to shady cinemas to get their video-jacking on. With the internet as a FREE (this is important) and ubiquitous alternative to both formats, porn no longer plays any sort of significant role in deciding a format war.
- scotticus, on 02/18/2008, -2/+26Mine was $100.
- Insurgo, on 02/18/2008, -10/+31HD DVD, Blu-Ray, eh! As far as I'm concerned, Bit-torrent (x264) won the format war.
- Steeple, on 02/18/2008, -3/+23rip them and accept that the next format is the HDD?
- bonkeykong, on 02/18/2008, -7/+26You're right, this is a touchy subject. Heaven forbid we offend anyone on the internet about HD video disk formats.
- stalefries, on 02/18/2008, -1/+19It'd probably be better if they got a blu-ray player.
- afx1, on 02/18/2008, -4/+21not true, you'll need one with built-in storage (i.e. hard drive) to fully take advantage of the upcoming blu-ray updates
- xXMetalJesusXx, on 02/18/2008, -14/+30Buy a PS3?
That's what I did...I'm keeping my HD DVD player as a keep-sake, but it's the cheapest Blu-Ray player out there, and it can even play games...lol - avgbody, on 02/18/2008, -3/+18Ha, $300 try $96, and it's still a good DVD player
- vertigoblue, on 02/18/2008, -1/+15you can buy new friends...
- Patogrande, on 02/18/2008, -7/+21Step 2.5: ??????
- mgrucker, on 02/18/2008, -2/+15"Blu-ray, also known as Blu-ray Disc (BD), is the name of a next-generation optical disc format". Who's the tard now?
- xerigen, on 02/18/2008, -2/+15Right now I'm in my bathtub, HD DVD player in hand, ready to plug it in.
- svartgotik, on 02/18/2008, -0/+13I'll have to keep watching the discs and take extra good care of my player so that it can hold out after all these years like my
Minidisc player, DAT deck, DVD-A player, SACD Player and S-VHS player have.
It just pisses me off that there had to be a format war to begin with. - AvidPreatorian, on 02/18/2008, -4/+17takes you 16hrs to run to the store? better pick up an extra TB hdd while you're at it then
- canthraxp, on 02/18/2008, -5/+17Instead of throwing the HD-DVD into your closet, open it up, remove the laser, insert into a flashlight, and you have a badass insta-blinding blue laser... It will be fun for a while (or until you actually get someone blind)
- inactive, on 02/18/2008, -0/+12what the ***** do you care what he does, mr. high-and-mighty? first off, you make it sound like the hd-dvds he has will be obsolete and no players will support them or something. I wish half of the idiots who make comments like yours actually knew what you were talking about. Buy both hd-dvd and bluray and watch the movies.
I have both and can tell you that the hd-dvd experience is superior to blu-ray. I will be buying ***** of them at bargain prices while you are spending 30-35 bucks per blu-ray disc. I will always have a player for them. My PC has a dual hd-dvd and blu-ray player that was cheaper than your ps3 or standard blu-ray box, so you lose. - gamebittk, on 02/18/2008, -14/+26Shame. The last thing I'd want is a closed format like Blu-Ray being the standard.
- elipabst, on 02/18/2008, -6/+17I'm sure it's been a real bitch watching Action Jackson over and over on your Betmax player for the last 20 years.
- had3l, on 02/18/2008, -4/+15I think you should dismantle the HD-DVD player and make a laser pointer.
- pagemap, on 02/18/2008, -5/+16But PS3 is the only Blu-Ray player that can be software upgraded... which is more than worth the extra $50.
- theaceoffire, on 02/18/2008, -5/+16O.o I am sorry, is HD-DVD an open format?
- pauleric, on 02/18/2008, -0/+11Porn Isle? Is that where middle-aged strippers go to retire?
- inactive, on 02/18/2008, -0/+10dammit.. you and your metric conversions.. I am trying to figure out how much that is.. how many pounds to the half-asston again?
- capiCrimm, on 02/18/2008, -2/+12I recommend instead of buying a new Blu-Ray player, you fly to Tijuana and pick up some hookers.
- MScrip, on 02/18/2008, -2/+12Amazon has a Sony Blu-Ray player for $350. My first DVD player was $300. Prices will only go down from here.
- NightVortez, on 02/18/2008, -1/+11HAHAHAHA....STUPID COMMENT...BURIED!!!!!!
- ControlcChris, on 02/18/2008, -4/+14Melt them and make blue ray discs.
- cornflakepirate, on 02/18/2008, -5/+15I thought HD-DVD was also closed...??
- scotticus, on 02/18/2008, -0/+9It's not like your player vanishes when a format disappears. I know many people who still dust off their 8-bit nintendos...
