- jboitnott, on 06/20/2009, -1/+8It's awesome that we're talking about a bubble instead of just instituting more efficient methods in the first place.
- inactive, on 06/20/2009, -1/+7"According to CNet, Diana Propper, a clean-tech venture capitalist at Expansion Capital Partners, said this at a recent panel:
'I worry that there's so much money being sloshed around, whether it's venture capital or corporate or government money, that it will be spent inefficiently. The risk of a bubble is real.'"
Inefficiencies are coming from haste to turn a profit. Here's hoping that they don't lose sight of the fact that "green" doesn't refer to money. - jerryjamesstone, on 06/20/2009, -1/+7Well, at least it would get build in the interim.

We're sorry, the page you've requested does not exist at this address. - DarkShroud, on 06/21/2009, -0/+3Just as long as it's the electrical grid and not the meters on our homes. Giving power companies precise energy usage data so they can figure out new ways to gouge us as well as the Feds new ways to tax us is not good. It's also a privacy violation issue that I'm sure will cause many confrontations.
- spook69, on 06/20/2009, -0/+2I think that we should just avoid all these green bubbles altogether and keep relying on traditional energy sources as much and as heavily as possible. Then again, I'm a misanthropic idiot.

/great link. - diggstown, on 06/21/2009, -0/+2Perhaps we could actually let it become a real bubble before projecting it bursting.
- Geheg3D, on 06/21/2009, -0/+2"On the other hand, a bubble isn't always a bad thing."
facepalm.jpg - CleanTechies, on 07/01/2009, -0/+2Agree, we have to make sure that people understand the "new grid". Same problem as with "Web 1.0"... We just wrote an article about the same issue:

I know it is very unlikely to happen and I don't get how smart grids can work out but as long as it isn't my money invested into that technology, I just don't care how much they waste. - seanof, on 07/28/2009, -0/+1It has nothing to do with environmentalism. It's a way for utilities to avoid the much higher costs of building more capability. It's make no difference in fuel used or carbon produce if your dryer during the day or at night.
- greencoolhip, on 06/21/2009, -0/+1I don't believe there's a green bubble at all. And it won't be until those companies start going public and wall street get involved.
- cubicledrone, on 06/21/2009, -1/+1IT?
When the first billion is spent, there won't be a single person in the room who knows how a linker or a debugger works. Guaranteed. - scoottie, on 06/21/2009, -2/+2The Smart Grid is the worst idea yet from the green movement. If i want to pay $300 a month to keep my house at 65 degrees its my choice not yours and not the governments.
Instead of wasting money on stupid ***** like this we need efficent power generation and delivery. - CPL0341, on 06/21/2009, -1/+1Screw the "smart grid." The last thing I want is some Nanny Government telling me what temperature my house should be, turning off my TV because they think I'm watching it too much, or powering down one of my computers because it's on (and working as a server) but I'm not home. What's next? State run news? Oh wait, we already have that. Nanny Government telling us what we can and can't eat? Oh wait, we have that too. I guess what's next is standing in line for oranges, then walking back to our grey-walled Government-supplied apartment where we watch the state-run news tell us about how Dear Leader just did something miraculous again that we all are ordered to be happy about.
Has everyone forgotten George Orwell? - changedmind, on 06/21/2009, -2/+1Smat grid? Sounds like a real smart way to pwn my tax $$$
