- PistolSO, on 11/23/2007, -1/+35Yes, I will be very thankful when DRM has finally died off.
- CaviMike, on 11/23/2007, -3/+17Dugg for MySpace not being mentioned.
- Aharoni, on 11/23/2007, -2/+14Not quite. You simply take the things you have for granted.
Lets talk globally for a second, not just 2007. Think about someone from the 40's traveling through time to the year 2007. How will he see things?
Entire orchestras and performances can fit into a device smaller than a cigarette box.
People can talk with their friends who are far away - even half the globe away - as if they were standing besides them, wherever they are.
People can send mail to each other that reaches its destination in a matter of seconds, whether it is sent next door, to Europe, the Philippines or Israel.
People have movie theaters at home, with crystal clear life-like image and life-like sound.
Traveling the world has become a simple and cheap task. One day you're in New York - just a few hours later - Paris, London, Russia... people hop onto planes and visit cities just for a few hours and then hop on planes back home. The world has truly become a global village.
Cameras take better-than-real-life images - and don't even need film to process it!
I can go on and on forever. If you look at it in the same way as you look at what you hope there will be in the future - it is all very very exciting.
Besides, the last time I was at the airport there were moving sidewalks... and considering the importance of fitness - moving sidewalks everywhere should remain a fantasy. - RubberBand, on 11/23/2007, -0/+11Hurray for Android!
- JoaoPe, on 11/23/2007, -2/+11Are you serious? This is probably the must useless and idiot article I've read in a while.
- benroy, on 11/23/2007, -0/+7Can you remember what your neighbors names are? When was the last time you even thought about the people that live immediately close to you? That's one of the negative sides of the internet. It makes people far away from you seem closer, but at the expense of people that actually are close to you (proximity-wise).
- MacParrot, on 11/23/2007, -1/+7With still over 90% desktop share and God only knows what high percentage share they have with Office applications, I really doubt that MS is going away anytime soon.
For other technologies to advance and be successful, doesn't require MS to die. My wish list for Santa is a Digg that can have reasonably intelligent discussions about tech without people screaming at others for not using the same tech that they do. And yes I know I also abuse the privilege on occasion. - Idontknowshit, on 11/23/2007, -1/+7Windows Vista a dismal failure? "With 40 million licenses sold, Windows Vista now accounts for an installed base larger than that of rival operating systems. But 40 million Vista licenses sold in 100 days mean 400,000 per day, 16.700 an hour and finally 4.5 per second." Hardly a failure. http://news.softpedia.com/news/A-Copy-of-Windows-V ...
- directrix13, on 11/23/2007, -1/+7DRM will never die as long as stupid ass diggers keep declaring how much they love iTunes on here.
- Lane, on 11/23/2007, -4/+10Personally I am thankful that ATI has finally put out a graphics card that can begin to compete with the 8800 series. The GTX has been milked for a long time and it's about time for the next gen to come in and kick some crysis ass.
- Speed, on 11/23/2007, -0/+5His name is Randy, and the last time I talked to the *****, it was because he kicked in my gate. There's a reason people don't talk to their neighbors anymore, they're almost always *****.
- demodawid, on 11/23/2007, -1/+6Last I checked, my books didn't have any backlight either.
- canthraxp, on 11/23/2007, -0/+4Ryan Paul should clean his keyboard, looks like the spacebar is working randomly. (Just read the ***** article to understand)
- emomakesmecry, on 11/23/2007, -1/+5Definitely a +1 on the iPhone. It's certainly not perfect and I have no intention on buying one until they fix a few things, but it has completely revolutionized the cellphone industry for the better.
- ivoices, on 11/23/2007, -0/+4I wonder if e-ink would still be on the list had Bezos not launched the Kindle.
- SwampyUK, on 11/23/2007, -3/+60.6% of the global phone market is a lot different to the global *smartphone* market, for which Windows Mobile is targetted. That, combined with Windows Mobile being on the majority of PDAs now (http://www.cellular-news.com/story/23965.php) shows it's far from the failure you credit it with. I don't like MS either (Debian user and getting a Neo1973 when the mass-market version comes out), but honestly you need to calm down a bit and get a bit more objective.
- CondoleezzaRice, on 11/23/2007, -2/+5Boo for Java!
- rabidbob, on 11/23/2007, -1/+3Yeah, I'm with you there. I'm not at all in the market for an iPhone as it does not have the features I desire, but it's certainly helped shake things up and added a bit more pressure to the market in terms of innovation which is a good thing. Competition can be a two edged sword for a consumer (ie. supermarkets in the UK being generally a negative impact of competition), but in this case it's been great. I'm really looking forward to the next generation of smart phones and PDAs.
- MacParrot, on 11/23/2007, -0/+2If you would add all the Plays4Sure sites and Zune Marketplace I would agree with you. iTunes and all the other sites would like nothing more than to remove the DRM as in almost every case sales of content increased when it is removed. EMI finally got it and even when Apple was charging more (for the iTunes Plus category, yes I thought it was stupid too) for non-DRMed content, sales were higher than before.
Now that Amazon is selling non-DRMed MP3s, Apple has been forced to drop the price difference to compete. It isn't Apple or Real or Microsoft or that is the bad guy about DRM. It's the content providers that force them to put the DRM in. ALL music sales with the exception of subscription models should be DRM free and the content should be allowed to be moved from one computer or device to another without exception if the user has aquired it legally - MacParrot, on 11/23/2007, -1/+3Care to explain or is this your regular stupid rant on tech you don't use or like? I don't have or want an iPhone as it is right now, but Apple has accomplished one very important thing with the iPhone. It is forcing other cell phone makers to realize that just cramming more features into a phone is not a guarantee for its success. That UI and design means something and that people WILL pay (and not just Apple fanboys) an excessive amount (yes I believe the iPhone is overpriced) for a device that while it may not have everything, does the things it's advertised to do and do them well.
- Boing, on 11/25/2007, -0/+1Buried for not metioning anything about internet and porn.
- wacki, on 11/23/2007, -0/+1can someone please illuminate me as to what is so revolutionary about the i-phone? The article mentioned NewsGator but didn't get specific on anything else.
- Melr00k, on 11/24/2007, -0/+1Navy. It's not just a job, it's an adventure.
- MacParrot, on 11/23/2007, -0/+1I don't know why people are digging you down. At least you came back with a reasonable comment.
- MacParrot, on 11/23/2007, -0/+1Random childish comments (of which I'm guilty of on...occasion) is what the problem is with digg. I'm not blind to other tech and frankly if I didn't already have an iPod Classic, I would seriously consider the new Creative Zens. 2.5-inch widescreen resolution (I'm sure I didn't define that right) with specs that meet or beat the nano makes it very attractive.
The only tech from Apple that I buy on a regular occasion are the Macs if only because I prefer the OS and have neither the time nor patience to put together a Hackintosh. Check my previous comments. You'll find I'm not the atypical Mac fanboy that so many love to accuse me of being. I say nice things about the Xbox, MS Office for the Mac, and other products that Apple either doesn't make or doesn't have the same quality. I still wouldn't consider the Zune, mostly because it doesn't work with the platform I prefer and the Zune Marketplace points racket in essense gives a free loan to MS for however long you don't use the points you are forced to buy for content other than what you rip yourself from your own collection. The player itself looks pretty solid though and the UI is at least as good as the iPod.
As far as the iPhone goes, yeah it's over-hyped and frankly IMO just an average phone for what it does (and is over-priced as I said before), but some people are willing to spend the cash on it and I say fine, if that's what you want. - etsa, on 11/23/2007, -0/+1DRM =
Down Right Madness,
Disgustingly Rediculous Music,
Drag-it Roll-it Mulch-it,
Dizzily Ringing Mistake,
Death Radiating Movement,
Douche-bag Ridding Malaise,
and whatever... - axis, on 11/23/2007, -2/+1I am someone who will vote for Ron Paul and I concur with potp's statement. It would need to be overwhelmingly obvious that tampering went on for him to win, even if he someone could pull it off. I am happy that Ron Paul has opened eyes though, I think that is his biggest contribution.
- cannarymburns, on 11/23/2007, -2/+1Not nearly enough eyes unfortunately though, if he truly did that we wouldn't have people voting for hillary/obama/giuliani. And moose, you get an e-punch in the face for more of the shameless ron paul blabber...
- yohan, on 11/23/2007, -3/+1Agreed. The Wii is popular?? NEWSFLASH!!
- MacParrot, on 11/23/2007, -3/+1I remember what my neighbors names are. Many of us stood outside on Thanksgiving day and shot the breeze while our kids ran around like maniacs. Maybe it's you or where you live.
- whisperedlie, on 11/23/2007, -5/+3guess what guys? i don't have an iPhone, but I still have somehow managed to exist (and even be productive and happy) without it.
- varunasingh, on 11/23/2007, -2/+0Gawd you Apple Fan boys!
- varunasingh, on 11/23/2007, -3/+1Well.. It was just a random childish comment there..
Fine.. i agree with you what Apple had changed with the phone market...
But I don't think its something to be on the '6 things to thank Tech. for'..
there are lots of other things.... iPhone is a start of a type of product which is best in what it does.
I think The HYPE it sets up is Overrated and too much.
and thats the reason why i mentioned you fan boys!
Did I tell anytihng bad against you ?
NO.
Just wanted to point out...
People get quite 'blind' when they consider just 1 product in their heads... Open yourself and let other products compare it too.
see Creative and Apple.. do a bit of research on them...
nuff said. - inactive, on 11/23/2007, -4/+2Ok Condoleeza Rice, we get your point.
- wacki, on 11/23/2007, -3/+1Can someone please illuminate me as to what is so revolutionary about the i-phone? The article mentioned NewsGator but didn't get specific on anything else.
- MacParrot, on 11/23/2007, -3/+1MacParrot.com...dragging the world back to web 1.0...one visitor at a time. (for you spamming nazis, please note a did not NOT make it linkable sparing you all from staring at blue text.)
- benroy, on 11/23/2007, -8/+5Anyone else notice that almost everything was technology-related? For me (a kid in the 80's) I really had hoped for greater things by now.
But now is *****. Now sucks. No moving sidewalks, no jet packs, no robots, no Utopian society where everyone wears unitards.
All we get are talking gas pumps. - yahoofrom, on 11/23/2007, -5/+2thanks digg
- benroy, on 11/23/2007, -5/+2that was kind of my point. i thought i was being facetious.
- inactive, on 11/23/2007, -5/+1How is e ink a good thing? There is no backlight. They miss such a simple and important thing in their ebook reader and people are happy?
- cbschmidt, on 11/23/2007, -5/+0"Yes, we're even thankful for Web 2.0" - great stuff! ;-)
- inactive, on 11/23/2007, -9/+2I'm looking forward to better balloting technology that will be employed when people vote for future President-elect Ron Paul next year
- carusen, on 11/23/2007, -12/+3Good article. Worth a read and a digg! :D
