- bejayel, on 03/31/2008, -0/+4you have fun with your integrated realtek sound cards. As much as i hate creative, i love their sound cards. I hate them for not releasing specs to alsa team for the x-fi though.
- Shananra, on 03/31/2008, -0/+2I'm using an M-Audio, but I hear Asus has some nice units out as well now.
- antdude, on 03/31/2008, -0/+2But M-Audio and others have crappy EAX support. Creative has hardware based. That's the only good thing about Creative's sound cards is hardware based EAX and games.
- Shananra, on 03/31/2008, -0/+2I'm using an M-Audio, but I hear Asus has some nice units out as well now.

- Sirocco, on 03/31/2008, -2/+18Creative has a history of writing terrible drivers and not supplying information critical to developers. Their AWE series went largely undocumented for many years, causing major grief to game developers.
- DemsFTW, on 04/01/2008, -0/+1my question is, why the ***** haven't they tried to hire this guy?
- ssn697, on 03/31/2008, -3/+20Too late. I have been boycotting Creative for years. They write the ***** drivers in the industry, period...
- nblsavage, on 03/31/2008, -1/+12I haven't bought Creative for years, the only reason I have an Audigy in my system right now is because I found it at Goodwill for $5.
- bemenaker, on 04/01/2008, -0/+2I agree, I have been using onboard sound for last few years. Do I really need to save 1% of my CPU cycles when I have a dual core CPU? No. The sound quality is pretty much the same, why bother wasting my money? That second core has to have something to do.
- n8o8, on 03/31/2008, -2/+10I LOVE how the internet is giving consumers a loud voice; so what's next? Companies using viral strategies to take down their competition... that will take away our credibility, so stay cynical and vigilant.
- jeremyduffy, on 03/31/2008, -2/+12I'm amazed at how frustrated people are with Creative. I haven't had any of their products in so long (and don't have Vista) that I never knew about this issue until it became news recently. Still, Creative has the right to stupidly prevent someone from helping them if they don't want it, but the backlash has been so severe, that it was clearly the wrong decision. It's as if the whole world was just waiting for a chance to start the revolt.
- djbon2112, on 03/31/2008, -0/+7I think they were. All their consumers are fed up, they just needed a real excuse to revolt.
- jjmckay, on 03/31/2008, -0/+2Very well expressed and I feel the same!! Dugg!
- fkr3, on 04/01/2008, -1/+1People on the internet are always waiting to revolt about something. Creative could have handled it a lot more tactfully though, like by giving the guy a job or communicating with him privately.
- Emused, on 03/31/2008, -1/+5I could not get my Audigy to work with Vista properly (nightmare support and driver issues), moved on to the Razer Barracuda AC-1 7.1 DDS, works like a dream, with great support (clear speaking) with call backs and proper follow up.I have used Creative products since the 8 bit days, after this Vista driver issue, I have walked away.
- troydoogle7, on 03/31/2008, -1/+7I just broke my Zen in half (actually I cancelled my order!)! Ha ha great timing!-- What is a better alternative that is not an Ipod?)
- krellor, on 03/31/2008, -0/+3Sandisk Sansa. Or really, any sandisk. I've been impressed with their products. Simple, and they work. And if you get one that does have problems they will replace it. You plug it in and it shows up as a hard drive. Just copy your media into the right folder (labeled music, video, pictures, audio books, etc...) and it shows up in the appropriate lists.
- cawpin, on 03/31/2008, -1/+2The Sansa lineup is very nice. They are well made, have good features and are relatively cheap. However, nothing has the UI of an iPod. I have a 5G video and love it. You just can't beat 'em.
- msodrew, on 03/31/2008, -0/+4an eyepod.
- itsradBrad, on 03/31/2008, -5/+6Try getting an iPod. I used to be very anti-iPod but the seamless integration with iTunes really sells it for me.

- DonTazeMeBro, on 03/31/2008, -2/+1Archos, beats any Ipod, Zune, [insert any other brand name here], made by Germans, has built in wireless for file transfer and web browsing, built in flash support, and the display screen is much larger than the Ipod Touch's screen, and can play lots of movie file formats.

- koreban, on 03/31/2008, -14/+6Creative retracted their stance and is allowing Daniel_k to continue to work on Vista drivers. This was blown out of proportion to begin with. Bury this topic and move on. It's not like any of you really cared to begin with.
- Okodro, on 03/31/2008, -1/+7Creative said he could continue Audigy drivers.... they are not changing their stance on X-Fi
- ArtificialAnus, on 03/31/2008, -1/+3Tempest, meet teapot!
- Ablerank, on 03/31/2008, -2/+10I say, just stick a fork in those *****. Creative has always been ***** - but no one really had any other options when they first came on the scene. Their drivers were always crap. This guy actually goes through the trouble of providing FREE support to their customers in the form a device driver and they ***** on him. Evil, threatening, worthless companies like these are what give Capitalism a bad name.

No more BS ..I mean SB for me.- bejayel, on 03/31/2008, -3/+4Side by side the creative sound cards give a 100% better sound experience than any realtek integrated *****. Most of the time the integrated stuff is crackly and staticy for me.
- kmoed, on 03/31/2008, -2/+3Keep dreaming, The realtek audio is comparable to any SB. There is no difference in quality. Ages ago it made a difference, this is no longer the case unless you are into pro audio, in which case any creative product is a not for you.

- TheAfterpipe, on 03/31/2008, -9/+2Hehe. Wish people would review the facts before grabbing their muskets.
I own a Creative Fatal1ty card, and I'm currently happy with both the sound and the drivers. I'm using XP, so I guess I wouldn't have a problem with it :P.- bbqsalad, on 03/31/2008, -0/+10Review the facts? Like how the drivers work fine on XP and not Vista for some older cards? Just like everyone is saying? Btw the Fatal1ty is a mega rip-off.
- meed, on 03/31/2008, -1/+5Creative is the worst sound card company ihmo. What good is a piece of hardware if the drivers are crap? Maybe creative needed to realize years ago, that while someone might by a new video card every year, a sound card can last you several years and several different systems. Creative needs to figure out another source of income besides trying to trick people into purchasing hardware that they really don't need.
- bbqsalad, on 03/31/2008, -0/+3BUT FATAL1TY USES IT SO I NEED IT TO GAME GOOD!!!!!!!!!!11!
- jserio, on 03/31/2008, -9/+11Wasn't this resolved DAYS ago? They already said he could continue AND receive donations. Daniel said he only received about $53 in donations anyways.
Wonder who owns this new site. I bet we'll see Google Ads on there soon. Just another Digger trying to take financial advantage of a situation.- MindTrigger, on 03/31/2008, -3/+8Do you own a Vista gaming rig and a Sound Blaster XFi? If not, shut the hell up. I've been fighting with these XF-i cards, snapping, popping, ***** sound and missing features ever since I moved over to Vista. Creative has the ability to correct these cards just like Daniel_K did, but instead it seems they want everyone to go out and buy new sound cards.
- zakool21, on 03/31/2008, -1/+3Jserio – you have no idea what you're talking about.
- msodrew, on 03/31/2008, -2/+15That's such a ***** website.
- purelithium, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1Hear, Hear! Did he even look at the formatting before he uploaded it?
- dvord, on 03/31/2008, -3/+4The only reason I'd boycott them is to get them to be more forthcoming to the Open Source community and help people make drivers for the X-Fi. I don't blame them for not supporting Vista. It's a crap OS anyway.
- Picer, on 03/31/2008, -0/+2I doubt creative have been doing well anyway, in the 90s software would say creative XXXX or compatible sound card but the new built-in sound in motherboards with their 5.1 .etc sound has destroyed their business so only enthusiasts that wanted to fork out for an XFi or whatever were their customers and by doing this they have alienated them all, hope they perish as good sound cards are available from many manufacturers like this one(my own).
http://www.hardcoreware.net/reviews/review-225-1.h ... - elektronjunge, on 03/31/2008, -1/+1Reading this it sounds like I'm one of the few with a creative card I have owned an Audigy SE and a XFI xtreme gamer. I have had great experiences with both of the cards in XP and Vista. The drivers didn't exist for the SE for a few months after Vista's launch but that was understandable. Both card work about as well as they did in XP. I agree that they do have the right to shutdown his project but the measures they took were far to harsh. The Drivers are fine for modern cards and I will continue to buy Creative cards in the future because nothing else on the market has come close to matching the quality of the hardware.
- bejayel, on 03/31/2008, -2/+1I have us e asound blaster live 24-bit and i currently own a soundblaster x-fi gamer (got it at cost) and both have worked extremely well in both XP and Vista, and the live 24-bit worked perfectly in most linux distros out of the box.
I dont agree with the ***** support they are providing for lower end series, but in all reality, a brand new x-fi gamer is $50 if you know where to look. The audigy 2's are like $15. Its ***** to have to buy a new card, but if you want old hardware support use an older operating system. It isnt just creative sound cards that have less than satisfactory support in Vista. Printers anyone?
- bejayel, on 03/31/2008, -2/+1I have us e asound blaster live 24-bit and i currently own a soundblaster x-fi gamer (got it at cost) and both have worked extremely well in both XP and Vista, and the live 24-bit worked perfectly in most linux distros out of the box.
- chrisgnv, on 03/31/2008, -4/+3Yeah, that's going to be a problem. Its going to be a problem for them. This is a clear violation of your rights as a consumer. Its an infringement on your constitutional rights. Its outrageous, egregious, preposterous.
- shark72, on 03/31/2008, -4/+3Yes! How DARE they ask him nicely to stop pirating their software!
Although I agree, the drivers have been awful for years. Boycott them for awful drivers? You bet. For firmly but politely asking somebody to stop redistributing their drivers and charging money for it? Not so much. - chrisgnv, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1Sorry, that's just the first line I think of when i hear the word egregious. It's from Seinfeld--sorry if that is too 90s of a reference for Digg :) Link: http://youtube.com/watch?v=Q74_Bvxi-Fg
- shark72, on 04/01/2008, -0/+1I'm old enough to remember Seinfeld, but I admit that your reference flew right on past my head...
- shark72, on 03/31/2008, -4/+3Yes! How DARE they ask him nicely to stop pirating their software!
- spartan777, on 03/31/2008, -1/+3i knew something was ***** when i had to pay 15 dollars for them to ship me drivers for my audigy 2 oem (in order to use it at all). again, i knew something was really ***** when they delayed linux drivers for vista drivers, which turned out to be utter ***** (the linux drivers could barely be called beta last i checked). this is the last straw. creative have ***** themselves.
- styckx, on 03/31/2008, -8/+5Gross. This should be buried it serves no purpose except to validate that person who created it has zero life and needs attention.
- phuzed, on 03/31/2008, -6/+3I am not sure which is worse: Creative Labs, for pouncing on someone trying to help their customers and product usability or all you 'effing' morons for using Windows Vista... get a real OS, Tools.
- archer75, on 03/31/2008, -3/+3My creative drivers work fine in Vista. X-fi drivers are right up on their site. Do you really expect a company to support legacy products forever? There's no money in for any company to write drivers for older products. ALL hardware companies drop support at some time.
- minorthreat, on 03/31/2008, -1/+5I'll never install Vista on my machine, but this move by Creative shows me how they treat their customers. I haven't owned a Creative Sound card, only Turtle Beach. Looks like Turtle Beach will be my next buy also.
- tumbler360, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1Have been using onboard audio now for a year and pretty happy with it. Won't be hard to live without a creative sound card for me.
I was planning on buying a motherboard with a creative sound card built into it but I think I'll pass now. - ortucis, on 03/31/2008, -3/+1Retards.
Not just Creative... - freshgrease, on 03/31/2008, -0/+3I took my beast of a computer off my desk a week ago because I am too lazy to fix the damn Vista problem of constant shutdowns after bootup after installing a windows update. You can say I am boycotting the use of my XFI Platinum, or you can just say that Vista's only redeeming quality is that it can run DX10. Otherwise, I'd just switch right back to XP.
Other than the fact that Creative is a company of douchebags, the XFI has served mefor years in audio recording and highly impressive sound quality for my ghetto sound system: 2xBoston Acoustic 3' floor speakers and a Pioneer VSX-5600 reciever, Too little of a bit rate makes these speakers sound *****, but a 192kbps+ with some of the features of the control panel makes them smooth as silk. - mufasa, on 03/31/2008, -0/+3I do not own any Creative products, but i digg these stories on principle, because companies acting this way deserve to suffer for their actions.
- bincoder, on 03/31/2008, -1/+2To those who think Creative has the right to restrict what drivers may be written for their cards by a third party... pish posh. They have no power to control how someone uses their soundcard, even If they charge money, which didn't happen but still. You can access it with whatever combination of zeros and ones that you wish or hook up a car battery to it to see the smoke or use it as a doorstop or frisbee. This is no different than an auto manufacturer demanding some 3rd party person stop making cupholders or seatcovers and charging money for them, because of 'intellectual property'. Silly.
- Rippleeffect, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1Bought an xfi platinum card (gift certificate) last year and loved it. "upgraded" to vista and lost quite a bit of functionality. Pretty upset over it, but it still works for the most part.
Still can't understand why I get lots of clicking noises when I'm in gamer mode. I won't buy another creative product again though. Too much hassle. - my10cent, on 03/31/2008, -4/+0*lol* Corporations are only doing what is in their best interest *roflmao* Wow Einstein do you know how short their life span would be if they did not ALWAYS do what is in their best interest?
Leave Creative alone, they make awesome products and if you dont like it just buy a freaking Turtle Beach piece of crap. - enmattp, on 03/31/2008, -0/+2Daniel_K FTW.

- pickles46, on 03/31/2008, -1/+1I personally prefer text that is legible.
- dolemite01, on 04/01/2008, -0/+2Ok, I see a lot of negativity here. Please lets cut the bad talk. We try our best to get working drivers and sure we might not be the best coders but god knows you're really only paying for the low end cards anyway, if people want the professional stuff they would be getting the true pro stuff, its a get what you pay for thing, so don't complain so much, we'll get the drivers working eventually.'
- ieskorp, on 04/04/2008, -0/+0We have been waiting for years, your best is NOT GOOD ENOUGH.
- djdingo, on 04/01/2008, -0/+3One of my main grips with Creative was after installing Audigy drivers on XP, then having to reboot and on startup it showed the Creative splash screen with a .wav file playing at startup. Doesn't sound like much but what really happens is Creative turns your volume to MAX at startup and that .wav file plays so loud it almost blew my computer speakers! After a few times doing this, I finally remembered to turn OFF the speakers on the reboot after installing the drivers.
How retarded is that? Thanks Creative! - pimpofpixels, on 04/01/2008, -1/+2
Oh come on. They already caved to the pressure.
Less than 24 hours later they brought the guys posts back.
When does the Boycott end? When the re-re-post Danial-K's threads? - ieskorp, on 04/04/2008, -0/+0Creative have been taking our money for years and delivering sub standard drivers/software. It is time they change their cavalier attitude to their customers. I have bought their products since 1986, as there was no real alternative. the last one was a Xfi Elite. I have recently bought a Asus Xonar PCI-E DX2. Now that's a card with some solid drivers and excellent performance. I will not buy Creative again, unless they change their ways and deliver a good quality product.
- PC509, on 04/06/2008, -0/+1I see how Daniel_K has went against the EULA and made his own drivers from their IP...
But, I don't think that is why this ***** came about. He EASILY proved that Creative was purposely making their products not work with Vista correctly and to "force" them to buy a newer product. This is why I will NEVER purchase a Creative product again. Nor will I recommend them to anyone. The word of the community has a strong impact, and Creative knows that it will hurt their bottom line.
