- publiccomp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Actually all the music stations are gonna be at 128kps the talk stations will be at 48kbps.
- filovirus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Hoo Hoo, bittorrent is ripping me off. Tell 'em Fred
- Rayza, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6What about shoutcast? Theres way more selection and portability.
- mcangeli, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6xm's online radio has been good for a while, and I haven't had the issues with signal.
I did have an issue originally with my receiver, but delphi exchanged it and I haven't had a problem yet.
This milking customers for everything isn't new, the cell phone companies have been doing it for ever now, as well as other mediums. But it is beginning to get a little absurd. I'm not going to pay more to listen to the radio online when I could just spend the $50 one time and buy the house kit for my receiver. - saturninus, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12I currently subscribe and this broke the camel's back. I am not renewing my annual subscription. High quality streaming should be available free of charge for current subscribers because Sirius reception SUCKS and blacks out at the same times every single day. The streaming is supposed to make up for time where you can't get a signal because their lame satellites travel in a figure eight as opposed to XM which stay stationary.
I got this for Howard Stern but Sirius is just milking too much out of their customers. My unit is malfunctioning big time and their equipment sucks. Reception is just okay as it blacks out at the same times every day.
I will NOT be renewing my subscription. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Clearly you like what plays on "free radio". The rest of us, with TASTE don't. But hey, if K FED is your thing, more power to you.
- punkas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6when you work in the bush with no decent radio station and only aircard service that is not that reliable paying for sat radio is definatley worth it as you can only listen to the same music play list for so long before you go insane
- M-ACE, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Maybe putting all their eggs in one basket wasn't the greatest idea. So now they are going to make us pay more for something that should be part of my subscription. *cough* Stern *cough*
- filovirus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Hoo Hoo, I invented internet radio. Sirius is ripping me off. Everybody rips me off.
- NICU, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Stern is already available to listen to online. They added a lot of new channels yesterday (9/25). But charging extra for a bitrate that should have been there at the start is crazy.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I called Sirius because I wanted to subscribe to their service. I work from home and sit at my PC all day, I figured I'd get a lot of use out of Shade 45 Aftermath's station. I told them I didn't want to buy a player, I just wanted to listen to their shows through my PC. He put me on hold, came back and said "I don't think you can do that, you need a radio ID" "buuut I don't want a radio"... So he puts me on hold again.. "Sir, I talked to the guys around here, and we think the only way is to ask a friend for their password, so you can listen online for free!" I was like "huh? You're suggesting that I... Pirate it?" "Uhhh yeah, I guess so"
Sooo I have permission, anyone wanna lend me their password so I can listen online? You're all my friends, right? :) - OandA, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9XM does it for free for its subscribers and at 64 kbps. Quality is pretty good. Thats how i get my opie and anthony fix at work.
- haloevo, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8xm radio is free online at aol.music.com.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5webcasts aren't popular, a handful of online nerds listen to them. That doesn't make them "popular".
- signal15, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Really? I don't have any problems with my Sirius service. I have a Kenwood car unit, and a separate Kenwood home unit. You didn't get one of those crappy $30 tuners did you? Many of the cheaper units are rebranded Audiovox equipment, they suck with XM also.
The service in my car never cuts out, unless I'm going under a bridge for longer than a couple of seconds, or under a canopy at a gas station. And, I have my antenna *inside* the car in the back window, which they state about 50 times in the manual that it won't work. Works fine.
Oh, and if you're thinking about switching to XM... Don't. It sucks. I've had both services, and I find that the content of the channels is better on Sirius, less repeats, better sound quality on music channels, and they actually seem to listen to their customers. Oh, did I mention no commercials at all on music channels? XM has commercials on at least 6 music channels at the moment, and the keep wavering on it. - justnick, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3My reception is good and my antana is inside on my dash. I'm too lazy to install it properly. My player has held up pretty good also and it sits in my over 100 degree car every day in the summer. You had a bad experience. Thats too bad. Decide wether you want to pay for a quality player (mine was $100 and it holds up well) and give it another try or not but I can only comment on my experience and it has been great.
- homerj1965, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ramone bring me my XM!!!
- Kuipo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4too bad it has anything to do with aol. ugh
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8I have Sirius, I am letting it run out actually.
They opened a new "free radio" station here that has talk radio ALL DAY, I love it.
Plus, Howard jumped the shark when he moved over, he got lazy, too many vacations, he isn't funny anymore and they spend hours upon hours babbling about NOTHING now.
***** it... - justnick, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I listen to sirius online at work every day and have the player in my car. I might just pay a little extra for better quality music online. Also, there are a lot of subject matters and kinds of music to choose from. You should actually try the service before you start bashing it. I was against it at first but got a player for my birthday and decided to give it a try. I love it. Their classic rock needs a larger playlist but its getting there. Don't talk about what you don't know about.
- ironbear, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Didn't _we_ get up on the wrong side of the bed? The Molnya orbit Sirius uses is actually better for many users. Their sats are higher in the sky and all that.
The extra-quality internet streams probably exceed the audio quality Sirius sends through the satellites anyway, for about $3 extra a month. Or, just go for internet-only at the same price you pay now.
Now, all better. - anjori, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@signal15
"Oh, did I mention no commercials at all on music channels? XM has commercials on at least 6 music channels at the moment, and the keep wavering on it."
Even with commercials on 6 of their music channels, XM still has *more* commercial-free music stations than Sirius.
Furthermore, XM didn't want to add commercials to their channels, but a prior agreement with ClearChannel meant that ClearChannel gets to control 5-6 channels, with the right to run advertising on them. And to show their commitment to commercial-free music, XM added more stations to make up for the ones that ClearChannel started running ads on. - AgentBarcode, on 01/11/2009, -0/+1I like my internet radio free and a 192Kbps+, a la shoutcast.com
- filovirus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Hats off to anyone that can wreck Britany's body with wigger seed.
- dodger2020, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2If you really had a subscription you'd know it's already PART of your subscription. All they are doing is offering a higher quality stream for $2 extra a month. Personally, there's no way I'm paying them another $2 - simply because it's not necessary. I listen to sirius streaming at work and the quality is fine as is.
Granted, it's only all the music channels that are streaming. Only a few talk channels stream currently. I wish they'd stream rawdog and not just same lame show that was on it. - groberts1980, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2For the last time people, THEY AREN'T CHARGING MORE FOR ONLINE SERVICE. Online streaming has been available for a long time. For free. To current subscribers. They are simply charging more for a higher quality stream (128 vs. 64 which is free to current subscribers).
On another note, I was an XM subscriber for years before hearing what Sirius had to offer. I cancelled XM and got Sirius because I think their stations & content is far better. But that's just me. I currently have XM through DirecTV and still think Sirius has better channels. Listen to Sirius's Classic Vinyl, then try XM's "The 70's." You'll see what I mean. - justnick, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3come on now, that got a little laugh outta me. Stop digging him down.
- TDavid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Just bought a Sirius Replay on Sunday and have been listening. Would probably have signed up for something like this awhile back, but won't likely pay $2 more for a little better quality for internet streaming.
- alt130, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Good idea, actually. I will go find torrents of Howard's show in the 1980s, which is the last time it was funny or relevant.
- NICU, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've been a long time Sirius subscriber and I think its ***** that they make already paying subscribers pay extra for a service that should have been available from the start. Every Sirius subscriber should write to them and complain. This is just stupid.
- lowlevel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sirius risks losing alot of customers... especially in Canada. They're really dropping the ball up here. Ie; Promised new channels by end of July, and they're not here yet... Promised internet streaming for Canadians, and nope, none of that. It cost me about $400 to get sirius in my car, and I've only listened to it about 10 hours in the past year. I find the content repeats wayyy too much. Considering I'm only in the car 20 to 40 minutes a day, this is truely sad.
- punkas, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4I really enjoy XM on line service, use it all the time with XBMC, i cant imagine paying for a service like this from either xm or sirius though, as for signal reception, (keeping in mind I live in Alberta Canada) I have both XM and SIRIUS in my truck and hands down SIRIUS for the best reception, xm blacks out when ever I am on the north face of a building or in heavily treed areas( I work in the oil patch so this is a problem as I am always back in the woods) but almost never a problem with SIRIUS, whether it be north face of a building or deep in the woods, when I do lose signal it is usually only for a couple seconds the back again.
- osbjmg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"...but idk I have XM"
I'm sorry. - anjori, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I think you meant music.aol.com. And as far as I know, only selected stations are available. Certainly they aren't going to let me tune into the Fredrica Bimmel Show for free.
- rhmmj, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Sirius has always been free online for subscribers, but it never had all the channels. They're now putting all of their channels online for all subscribers.
You now have the option to buy an Internet only subscription (so you don't need to buy the receiver) or you can pay an extra $2.99/mo for a higher quality stream. I've been listening online at work since I bought Sirius a year ago and have never been disappointed by the audio quality. - alt130, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I find it a handier way to pay my rent than rolling a wheelbarrow full of money to my landlord, albeit less adventurous.
- FrankieB078, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Once my salary increase kicks in at work I am definitely planning on upgrading, as all the listening I do while not in the car is online. Very worth it imo.
- FrankieB078, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Its funny my Starmate for a little while would short out depending on the angle it was sitting. I smacked it one day and it stopped shorting out. It acts funny in my boombox but not enough to make me want to cancel my subscription, thats just plain retarded....get a new radio.
- Amything, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1*Sigh* this doesn't seem to work for non US residents. How lame. Back to pirating Howard then...
- tmcdigg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1bad idea, people will most likley not PAY MORE for something that should be a natural part of the subscriber experience.. some people who have the radios installed in their vehicle do not want to take it inside, or buy a special kit just to listen to the *service* which they pay for already indoors. just like you wouldn't want a bank account that charged you if you use their atm's too much.
- DoverGeek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Sirius is awesome in the car, but at home i'm connected via Shoutcast all the way!!!
- bchow, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1
Unless it's real hifi-quality, it's not worth paying for online.
Not with XM/AOL free and thousands of other great online
radiostations free.
BTW, you know that it's dead easy to timeshift internet radio
to your mp3 player for free, right? Unless you're subscribing for
talk, sport, news and current hits, timeshifted internet radio beats
satellite in the car any time. - skoles, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I had been using my friends account to listen online and I really like what they had available. Main reason I would want it is for Stern and I would be mostly listening to it on my work PC and Mac at home.
But they did something that's going to make me question joining up now. Whatever they did to the online streamer now no longer works on the Mac. Even with Flip4Mac and WMP installed the stream no longer starts when selecting stations. If I can't listen at home through Firefox the same way Iisten to it at work, then it's useless to me. - ericnmu, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Yahoo's LaunchcastPLUS is something to consider... hundred something channels at 192kbps
- jasgeo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I've listened to sirius and its ok, but I can't really bring myself to pay for radio. I suppose its the same as paying for cable TV though.
- punkas, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1never mind I forgot, my sub is a US sub
- PhantomZmoove, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Of course, my mouth often writes checks that my ass can't cash.
- Sagags, on 10/12/2007, -9/+5I was sure that this has been out for a long time, but idk I have XM
- alteeffour, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Too bad Canadians can't stream their content
- Jammerdelray, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Pay? Forget that....Use Aol's XM radio free without the software right from your browser (Firefox)
