- RuffRidr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+46If its really all about the message then why wouldn't you do it?
- cyberdork, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18Well I guess because the distribution rights lie with Paramount and UIP and not Al Gore.
Actually a colleague of mine was downloading it via bittorrent and received a nice email from the MPAA. - Stonedonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17It's already *on* BT. I see it listed with over 6500 seeders.
- jellybean69, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14it should be up on google video too that way even the stupid old people can see it
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13He could just use one of the 700Mb XVID rips out there already and seed it with a dedicated PC........Im sure he could find soembody to rip a copy and upload a torrent for him.
Plus, Im sure he can find a guy somewhere who would donate some cash to make it possible.........
The message is too important to not get it out there.
The truth should be FREE, not $19.95 at Blockbuster Video. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14exactly.....I hope he puts it up.
- geoffp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12The answer, I think, is "hell yes." If Paramount owns the rights to the movie, which is really just a trumped-up version of his lecture, maybe he could just tape one of his lectures and put that up on Bittorrent...?
- killinger777, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13Hell ya, there's no propaganda like free propaganda!
- 7of7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8That's a really good idea. There could be issues with the production company or with the logistics though.
- gronne, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Cleotis woke up from the wrong side under the rock this morning.
- Bob042, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7People were waiting for his permission?
- Woodpecker, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Hey buddy, I live in Wisconsin, and it's 45 F outside right now. Something has gotta be screwed up.
- mlock2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5 yeah i got it if off of a torrent site already as well. Were we suppose to wait until AL said ok ?
- awhiteflame, on 10/12/2007, -8/+13If anyone could, he could. He invented The Internet, after all.
- abertoomba, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I live in Wisconsin and on Christmas Eve I comfortably walked outside with a t-shirt on. I think that is *****.
- CannedMango, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5it's almost the same temperature in Wisconsin and Phoenix at the same time? That's the scariest ***** I've heard all day
- mckirkus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4From Space.com "Scientists have suspected in recent years that Mars might be undergoing some sort of global warming. New data points to the possibility it is emerging from an ice age."
http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/mars_ice-age_031208.html
There are no Hummers or Republicans on Mars as far as I know. When politicians start talking about the environment it's wise to be skeptical. I agree we need to take steps but for god's sake politicians are NOT scientists. - vash469, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5ITS ALREADY ON THERE THATS WHERE I GOT IT FROM
- askldjd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Sure, but I want him to do that himself.
Since he invented the internet, ripping a DVD into xvid and putting up a torrent shouldn't be tough. - toomuchgreentea, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Don't take it personally ... but I'm a little sick of these "invented the internet" cracks about Al Gore.
Everybody knows he DIDN'T invent any of the protocols; and no, he DIDN'T create the infrastructure from scratch either. But what he DID do was to help open up the "internet" back then to commercial ventures, and if you haven't noticed, that is what most people think of the "internet" today, and almost no one recall that the internet was once closed to ALL commercial ventures.
You ain't wrong to say he didn't invent the internet, but he had contributed a lot more to what most conceived to be the internet today, and he really didn't deserve to be make fun of like this. - nreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -0/+42 weeks ago it was below freezing every night for 5 days. I live in Los Angeles. Sure doesn't sound like global warming. but this is just one example and does nothing to show anything about global warming, just like when any of you guys say it's getting hotter where you live, that means nothing.
- MSTK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Don't you mean MPAA?
- silentdud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Hahaha thank you. I was waiting for someone to say that.
- userChris, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7They mean legally, so that you won't get a cease and desist letter from our good old friend, the MPAA.
- Fascist, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I'd watch it.
And they should put it on YouTube so everyone else can watch it, too. - skellener, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3You mean it's not up there already?
Ahh... 'ya beat me Stonedonkey! - MSTK, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I actually already saw it on BitTorrent, but it wasn't hosted by Gore.
- BOOFMAN, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6There's so much garbage on torrent sites already do we really need campaign commercials too?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Watch the whole thing in one sweet Youtube Click:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwY4VU7zhsw&feature=PlayList&p=3CB5B757B6A1B197&index=0&playnext=1 - aegis9975, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Think it may find a wider audience via Google Video or YouTube. I think people that use BitTorrent would have already downloaded it if they wanted to.
- hansamurai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2For serial.
- jacobmiller, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Exactly, Al Gore actually did a lot of good to promote the Internet as we know it today, and the FUD that get's thrown around is just ridiculous. Please read:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Gore#The_Internet_and_the_Webbys
In fact, Vint Cerf, and Bob Kahn, two of the real "inventors of the internet" put out this statement:
" [A]s the two people who designed the basic architecture and the core protocols that make the Internet work, we would like to acknowledge VP Gore's contributions as a Congressman, Senator and as Vice President. No other elected official, to our knowledge, has made a greater contribution over a longer period of time.
Last year the Vice President made a straightforward statement on his role. He said: "During my service in the United States Congress I took the initiative in creating the Internet." We don't think, as some people have argued, that Gore intended to claim he "invented" the Internet. Moreover, there is no question in our minds that while serving as Senator, Gore's initiatives had a significant and beneficial effect on the still-evolving Internet. The fact of the matter is that Gore was talking about and promoting the Internet long before most people were listening. We feel it is timely to offer our perspective."

So let's drop the jokes about Al Gore "inventing the Internet". - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2(jumps on the wagon)
yea i live in Orlando FL and it was 45F last night,....
. - jacobmiller, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3WTF??? Why did this story get pulled from the front page? For that matter, how does one go about contacting a digg administrator?? I know on Wikipedia it's easy and you usually get a quick reply, but on digg the administrators are some big mystery...
- silentdud, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Well Noam Chomsky is political correct obsessed, anti establishment whore. He is anti anyone in any position of authority.
- schibs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It convenient to blame it on big industry and our way of life when it can just as well be attributed to the Milankovitch cycles.
- dionysos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Progress in Physical Geography (Braithwaite, R.J., 26: 76-95 (2002)):
“Alpine glaciers are generally shrinking, Scandinavian glaciers are growing, and glaciers in the Caucasus are close to equilibrium for 1980-95” [...] “there is no obvious common or global trend of increasing glacier melt in recent years.”
'Modern Glacier Retreat on Kilimanjaro as Evidence of Climate Change International Journal of Climatology,' 24, 329-339, doi: 10.1002/joc.1008, March 15, 2004
"A drastic drop in atmospheric moisture at the end of the 19th century and the ensuing drier climatic conditions are likely forcing glacier retreat on Kilimanjaro."
Not Rush Limbaugh, not Al Gore, nor any other posturer. Just two recent academic journals that directly challenge Gore's assertions and his claim that the "time for debate is over". Trust me, "ending debate" is not how science/academia works.
Politicalisation of science = bad, no matter what. Please don't allow a political movie to "inform" you of "the message", do research yourself. The access to information that the internet provides is a waste if people watch a propaganda film instead of doing research. - donutz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@abertoomba
That means nothing. In springtime at UW-Madison, when it's 55 degrees and sunny, you'll find college students sunbathing in bikinis. "Comfortable" is relative. - dionysos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Demonsnake,
Sorry for the typo, I corrected it above or you can find it here:
http://www.geo.umass.edu/climate/tanzania/pubs/kaser_etal_2004ijc.pdf
I said it is a political movie, nothing more, nothing less. In no way did I say I was against this film or documentaries. Simply that scientific debates should involve scientific debates. People can read actual academic journals and make up their own minds. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Quality wise, youtube sucks ass. The graphs will be totally unviewable, and they're the bits that should trouble people the most.
- nasium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1can't believe this was pulled from the hp.
- wiremonkeymommy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yes, absolutely, make it legally available for free, it's a win-win for him and for us.... he'll see that, my bet, he'll do it by the end of January
- xptweakerntn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Demonsnake, my point! they thought the world was round, they thought the earth was the center of the universe, they thought global cooling was happening, and all this was by the world's "leading scientists". thank you for proving my point!
- dionysos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I believe the movie is political because its stated purpose is to influence public policy, not add to the scientific field or provide an accurate introduction to it (ie. "there is no debate"). It was produced by political activists like Laurie David rather than non-partisan individuals. I mean political as simply that, nothing more, nothing less.
Glad you asked about electronic versions!
Unfortunately I cannot find an electronic version of Braithwaite available for free download, if you are at a participating university you could try online resources like JSTOR. However, Kaser et al. is available online for free from the University of Massachusetts Amherst:
http://www.geo.mass.edu/climate/tanzania/pubs/kaser_etal_2004ijc.pdf
You don't have to agree with it (the nature of academia), but I hope you find it interesting! - CannedMango, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2When did taking care of the environment become a liberal only issue? At what point does it interfere with conservative ideals. It seems to me that it would be pretty hard to lead a good, honest conservative lifestyle if the planet is all f***ed up. Shouldn't everyone be concerned?
- nreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3oh clever. While I agree that the movie is wildly innacurate, your comment can only be described as:
"An inconvenient waste of my time"
A more clever quip would have been: "More like 'An Inconvenient Butt'"
No wait, that's not clever, that's retarded. - BOOFMAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Coppertone, Hawaiian Tropic, - Sunscreen sales will go through the roof....
- CannedMango, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is this story being censored or blocked? It's no longer on the front page. I can still see the stories that were before it and after it, but this one's gone.
- st1nkf1nger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2..and I live in Phoenix and its 50 degrees F and raining..
- LittleDanzig, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Did you just reference Rush Limbaugh as a scientific authority?
His book is called "See, I Told You So", for chrissake. The very TITLE of his book is designed to point fingers, spread blame, and characterize Mr. Limbaugh as some sort of guru, spreading wisdom-on-high to an unlistening world. You don't see the ridiculousness here? The man makes a LIVING on controversy, and you're going to take his words at face value?
Listen, I'm a liberal, and a pretty radical one, but I'll be damned if I'm going to turn to Al Franken or Randi Rhoads to attempt to justify my beliefs. These people are ENTERTAINERS, as is Limbaugh, and you cannot expect them to be any more informed than the rest of us. If you're interested in attempting to disprove global warming, there are plenty of SCIENTIFIC TEXTS and articles available out there for your perusal. None of them were written by talk radio hosts who pay their bills by making people angry. -
