- inactive, on 08/14/2008, -2/+60That's more than enough for most people, good for Germany.
- coheedcollapse, on 08/14/2008, -2/+55That's the way it should be. If you're going to go after people for file sharing, it shouldn't just be random casual sharers before the commercial pirates.

Honest! - larryjr88, on 08/14/2008, -3/+44Finally someone to stand against the greedy-ass record/movie industry and save the courts for real criminals.
- Depthfunction, on 08/14/2008, -0/+40Meanwhile, in the US, if you get caught sharing just one Britney Spears song, you'll be held liable for hundreds of thousands of dollars in "damages".
- cricketsymphony, on 08/14/2008, -3/+40The German legal system: strict...strict but fair.
- BlaqReaper, on 08/14/2008, -1/+38Agreed- 1 euro for a song, 15 for a movie. This makes the RIAA and MPAA look like selfish pigs.

- D3koy, on 08/14/2008, -0/+28You could have your name in a bunch of newspapers saying you paid money for a Britney Spears song.
- inactive, on 08/14/2008, -1/+26Damn, you're fast.
- inactive, on 08/14/2008, -0/+23Because it's so ***** hard to get citizenship/dual-citizenship anywhere unless you have a ridiculous sum of money to do it. Gotta keep the slaves from leavin' the ship... even if it is sinking.
- Mr_Lyle, on 08/14/2008, -2/+24You know, the fact that stuff like this makes headline news is a sad ***** statement on how horrible things have gotten. A judicial system that refuses to spend it's precious time and taxpayer dollars on such complete and utter useless ***** should be the norm and not the exception. More governments need to stop sucking big business dicks and get with the times. Quit wasting our time and money on useless *****.

- Mr_Lyle, on 08/14/2008, -0/+19I'd rather die than have my name in a bunch of newspapers saying I'm being sued for pirating a Britney Spears song. I really can't think of a much worse fate.

To steal, don't you have to be stealing from someone? What exactly are you taking away from other people? And don't feed me that "potential revenue they might have received if I paid for the media" *****-- cause that would mean you steal by going to libraries too. - Tippx, on 08/14/2008, -5/+23***** das RIAA!

- RandomFruitBat, on 08/14/2008, -3/+14Mr. Burns: (Sarcastic) Oooh, the Germans are mad at me. I'm so scared! Oooh, the Germans! (Hiding behind Smithers) Uh oh, the Germans are going to get me!
Horst: Stop it!
Man: Stop, sir.
Mr. Burns: Don't let the Germans come after me. Oh no, the Germans are coming after me.
Man: Please stop the "pretending you are scared" game, please.
Horst: Stop it! Stop it!
Mr. Burns: (Pause) No! They're so big and strong!
Man: Stop it.
Horst: Stop it, Mr. Burns.
Man: Please stop pretending you are scared of us, please, now.
Mr. Burns: Oh, protect me from the Germans! The Germans--
Horst: Burns, Stop it! - scheibs14, on 08/14/2008, -1/+12The movies, definitely enough. The songs could use a thousand or two more IMO
- diggerbez, on 08/14/2008, -4/+14Because you love the Bush administration?

... hey the chicks are hotter here too. - andj, on 08/14/2008, -2/+10I hope the authorities in Europe, UK take note of this approach. Its more sensible.
There are more important issues to occupy the police and courts time - such as real crimes like stabbings, rapes, murder. At the moment the authorities that we voted into power dont think our human rights are a priority which deserve the same consideration as property rights of music and movie industry.

- johnroth, on 08/14/2008, -0/+7Titties and beer... does it get much better?
- lemur, on 08/14/2008, -0/+7It's not "stealing" in any true sense of the word. No legal definition of theft applies to this situation. Saying the word "steal" is just a loaded manner of speaking in order to slant the argument in your favor.
What this article is about is defining what the government is willing to consider prosecutable copyright infringement. There are in fact many forms of copying that do not constitute copyright infringement, even if the original work is copyrighted.
Also bear in mind that the copyright is not a natural right--it's basically whatever the government says it is, and if the government got up one day and said, "oh btw, there is no longer such a thing as copyright, kthxbai", there is really nothing immoral or unethical about that. Ostensibly, if the government stood up and said, "copyright infringement is only considered if more than 3000 copies have been made," then that's copyright law. There is nothing unethical about it, whereas stealing is indisputably unethical. - lennybird, on 08/14/2008, -1/+8Don't they have major video game restrictions?
