- JSchwage, on 10/12/2007, -3/+31I'm guessing that's because a large amount of digg users don't use IE, which is the only browser that Alexa supports at the moment.
On a side note... how the heck is MySpace a Web 2.0 website?! - orenthal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+27"web 2.0" is overused and overhyped.
- scoot87, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21937 sites? It would be better if they had a description of each site so I wouldnt have to go to each site just to find out what it was. Well, 845 more to go!
- Computer_Kid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17E-bay!? Thats been around sense 95, and the interface hasn't even changed if the past five years!
- mahalie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Btw, I think it's an unfortunate oversight that gmail isn't included - it's Ajax-y, and has allowed people to communicate in new ways...
- anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Do we really have to have Myspace at number one? Couldn't we just...I don't know, pretend that domain is still up for sale?
- Popdmb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15and it's 937 times better than myspace...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16ebay is web 2.0?
The future is dark. - Cytranic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15In my eyes, myspace.com is more web 2.0 then ebay. Ebay looks about the same as it did 10 years ago.
- Blazeix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Anybody else think he was originally going for 1000 Web 2.0 sites, but he got too tired?
- hotpepper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12But email and IM integration is.
- Paladin27, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I thought Web 2.0 was just long pages of user comments under EVERY SINGLE item/article/picture along with brightly colored, graident filled, rounded buttons?
- trypnotic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Nobody knows what Web 2.0 means. Ask 10 web experts to define Web 2.0, and you'll get 11 different definitions.
This site's working definition is "sites that people collaborate and share information online in a new way," which is one of the worst definitions (IMHO) that I have ever heard. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13I got accepted to the Web 3.0 alpha testing group.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Does anyone else find it funny that this site with the list isn't very web 2.0-ish (and yes, I just made up that word. sue me.) But come on, i agree that a rollover with a description, competitors, etc. would be very helpful.
- shwilmo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Alexa as the ranking tool? Next.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10define web 2.0
- tjhanley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Nothing built on a ColdFusion platform can be called Web 2.0 imho. myspace sux
- quasipalm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7d'oh! there it is listed as en.wikipedia.org, apparently all of the different languages are listed seperatley -- which is probably why it should be higher on the list.
- Autoplectic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6web 2.0 is basically user-defined content. see wikipedia, last.fm, digg, etc.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Why the hell does he link the alexa data instead of to the site. He organized it BY alexa data, I want to see the site now obviously.
- totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Where is blogger/blogspot? all the other blog sites are there..
- air12ick, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I personally do not believe MySpace is web 2.0. Its more of a Web 1.5 because it only has the social networking thing going. The list is alright because now we can see it as a list instead of typing all these domains down. So there you have it.
- madpie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5my problem with squidoo is that it's called "squidoo." It sound like a word that should describe what happens when a fish takes a crap. "Here we can see a Clownfish producing a squidoo in near an anemone...."
- ziggystardust, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yeah he rocks alright. So much so that 50% of that list doesn't belong on that list.
How is that site even 2.0?
Let me reiterate the comment by somespecialist:
"So what makes a site Web 2.0 again? CSS, AJAX, and cool little Java widgets?
Because if it's dynamic user content, you can chop off about half the sites on this list."
and finish by echoing "Lame, SPAM, and inaccurate. " - cosmotic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Lame, spam, and innacurate.
- javaCoder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Web 2.0 defined "The phrase Web 2.0 was coined by O'Reilly Media to refer to a supposed second generation of Internet-based services that let people collaborate and share information online in a new way—such as social networking sites, wikis, communication tools, and folksonomies."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_2.0 - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5you know you lack sarcasm skills when you have to put a sarcasm diclaimer.
- geuisteses, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Why oh why is Alexa being used as the data source? So this entire list is based on people who primarily run the Alexa toolbar in their IE browser... Let me imagine how many that are regular users of Digg that meet this criteria. I'm actually surprised Digg isn't lower in that list, because I would have suspected that Digg users generally wouldn't be generating the traffic that Alexa "analyzes".
- mroffroad, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5this guy is a genius, imagine how long it took to put together all that info?
you must be sarcastically disabled if you beleived that statement - anasazi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4it is, and as such these results are skewed because it doesn't count people who arn't infected.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I thought Alexa was spyware
- BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4How is Skype (the site) "Web 2.0"?
- alanmarchman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5can someone explain to me how that myspace crap is considered web 2.0?
- deuceace, on 10/12/2007, -8/+11Digg is only 14th... pathetic....
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+13comment annoying...deleted
- mozomo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I think myspace is the biggest hype, there are Max spyware and porn firms crreating thousnads of fake profile on myspace every week, its 0,0 quality and its sustainig now due tremondous viral, seo, sem, murdochs chq book, registered users and stuff liek that friendster and Zorpia have real people!
And in Biz network number 55 according to Seth Godins list is supereb, I fell in love with UI of openbc.com and multilingual options some German / Swiss / Australian / Chinese founders Lars Hinrichs and Bill Liao! - phoofy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3And going forward, I'm never going to see the word "squidoo" as anything but fish crap. Thanks.
- totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Alexa? He used a Web 1.0 tool to measure the popularity of Web 2.0 sites? classic.
- BostonVaulter, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6myspace is web2.0 because it features alot of user generated content, it's just that the content consists of blink tags and marquees and may crash your computer.
- quasipalm, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8Uh, where is Wikipedia? It should be #2 or #3.
- bmirks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3so much mindless ranting.. i enjoyed browsing some new and cool sites.
- Twango, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Looking the list over, it looks more like Web 1.20 instead. EBAY? please.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4It's neat looking at how regularly digg's traffic dips. It always felt dead on the weekends, this just proves it.
- somespecialist, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4So what makes a site Web 2.0 again? CSS, AJAX, and cool little Java widgets?
Because if it's dynamic user content, you can chop off about half the sites on this list. - shout, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hell yes!! We're #584 - Shout Central
- shout, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1what is your site about....very odd.
- amigiac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Myspace isn't really web2.0, is it now.
Gmail isn't even on the list. - digitaldivider, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"AJAX IS WEB 2.0!"
- gd007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1what about milliondollarhomepage.com that makes it web2.0?
