- cmw72, on 10/12/2007, -2/+169We should actually thank Ted Stevens. Were it not for his "series of tubes" speech, the whole "Net Neutrality" issue would have gone more or less unnoticed by mainstream America.
- phpirate, on 10/12/2007, -6/+172Senator Stevens is so dumb. Everyone knows that the internet is made of pipes!
- RadiantBeing, on 10/12/2007, -2/+144If the Senator appears on the Daily Show, his media adviser deserves to be fired. Nothing can undo the internet phenomenon he created except time. Going on the Daily Show will just make it even bigger and keep it alive longer.
- lava, on 10/12/2007, -9/+124I don't think so. I think Jon Stewart would be fair to him. Stewart has always been tough but fair to conservatives on his show. He makes sure they get some time to have their say, unlike O'Reilly. Stevens would say something like, "It was an analogy, not a fact" and Stewart would say "Oh, ok, you had me worried there for a second. Now about that bridge..."
- crawfishsoul, on 10/12/2007, -3/+110Programming my DVR now!
- lava, on 10/12/2007, -1/+101I'd lose respect for him if he acted in the same reactionary way that conservative talkshow hosts do.
- Chakz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+98I'd watch it but my staff just sent me an internet.
- lo0ol, on 10/12/2007, -1/+98The best part of the article can be found at the end:
"One congressional aide said the show had explained the controversial Net neutrality issue 'better than any corporate lobbyist or policymaker I know.'" - zbeast, on 10/12/2007, -12/+98The Dally Show is not just watched by rabid democrats.
It is watched by voters young voters.
The Dally Show may be a "fake" news but they cut
though the smoke and mirrors of this great government we have.
Smart people watch the Dally Show.
Unlike the "crack heads" that watch fox news. - Blarion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+72Don't! You will fill the tubes with massive amounts of material. Massive amounts of material.
- holmes101, on 10/12/2007, -2/+60Use this form to let the daily show know that they need to let this guy on:
http://www.comedycentral.com/help/questionsCC.jhtml
Unfortunately it may take days to get there because of the clogging... - eatdontsendspam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+58I heard tubes are pissed off for being associated with Sen. Stevens.
- drewpost, on 10/12/2007, -0/+56Apparently he sent Jon Stewart an "internet" telling him he'd come on his show, but it still hasn't arrived yet....
- PhonicUK, on 10/12/2007, -1/+56Someone youtube this :D
- aeffektz, on 10/12/2007, -5/+57I guess he didnt see the newscast about colbert ruining politicians careers, I would assume Jon Stewart humiliating you might do the same. I know if he goes on the daily show, Jon will more than have his way with him on more than just the internet tubes
- Ascendant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+52Sure, of course Jon Stewart will be fair and polite.
He's no fool. He doesn't need to go on the attack against Stevens- he just has to give him enough rope to hang himself with. - ninjatroll, on 10/12/2007, -2/+47So much irony, so little bandwidth.
- macewan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+45so little tubes
- deanlowe, on 10/12/2007, -3/+46I'm not sure if you know this or not but Jon doesn't go out of his way to humiliate people on his show. He lets them do that on their own. He's usually very respectful of his guests. I sure don't want Jon to act like an ass just to satisfy people like dclowd9901.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -1/+42lmfao, it's funny because it's true.
- simX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+40Actually, YouTube (as evidenced by its name) has its own tubes, so there's no need to worry about clogging the regular internet tubes.
- mikejant, on 10/12/2007, -1/+39Better watch out, Jon. He has a letter from a "big" scientist.
- pumacub, on 10/12/2007, -1/+37@ geekee
The Daily Show's description of net neutrality was about as spot on you can get. Hopefully you're joking. - Derrelicte, on 10/12/2007, -0/+35That quote was probably the singlemost awesome line in the entire story.
Stevens is completely off his rocker...first he derives authority on Net Neutrality from a lobbyist, and now from a *big scientist.*
Then again, I hear big scientists these days all have collegiate degrees in Network Engineering.
This is all going down the tubes. - tidu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+34"Don't! You will fill the tubes with massive amounts of material. Massive amounts of material."
Don't worry; my videos of horses will clear those tubes right up. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+33Actually guys, we're the ones who are wrong here. Surely nobody will argue with the findings of 'a big scientist'?
"'I have a letter from a big scientist who said I was absolutely right in using the word 'tubes,"' [Stevens] told reporters." - threepio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+32My GOD! We're being attacked by HUGE scientiests! Oh NO! It's Marie Curie! We Must Flee!!!
- zephc, on 10/12/2007, -9/+39the internets is made of a series of interconnected hookas and water bongs
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+30It wasn't weak considering it was on television.. if he had gone into any more detail he would have confused his entire audience.
- eatdontsendspam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+28and he wonders why it took him until the next day to download an Internet
- GarethSaxby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26@proghead
Yes, and mainstream America all go on ShoutWire, don't they... Heck, I'm a self confessed nerd, and even I don't go on there. I've not seen a second dedicated to NN over here on TV in the UK, and I have to admit, it really is an International issue even if it comes down to a decision made by a small group of Americans. In all honesty, I doubt it has had much press over there in the USA, but I am really waiting for someone to prove me wrong regarding this. Anyone? - hoyaman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26Yeah! In fact, all of the clerks for Federal Judges that I know, and all the J.D.s I know, and all the political activists I know rate the Daily Show and the Colbert Report as among their favorite TV. In other words, you read journals for insight, and you watch the Daily Show for perspective. Screw the nightly news, we already wrote it hours ago...
I'm just hoping that Jon makes Stevens walk on the bridge to Nowhere that costs over $20 million. Or maybe Jon would call in sick and Moby would guest host. - tonicboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22The Daily Show comprises some of the best journalism on TV today. It's genius, actually. By giving up all pretense at being a "real" news show, they are able to cut through the *****, say what other shows won't say and in the end, they have the best "real" reporting around. Plus it's funny as *****.
- centinall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22just wait until someone sends you an internet of it.
- icebrk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21Maybe in technical terms it was lacking a few details that may seem important but they got the gist of it and they did it in a way that makes it clear to the general audience as well as point out who's getting what out of it. It was concise and to the point, and for the people who aren't nearly as involved it's the ideal explanation, it's even better because it's preceded by something even the average person would consider idiotic: a US Senator's view
- i440, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22Jon Stewart should have President Bush visit the Daily Show for a "State of the Internets" address.
- Kalluas, on 10/12/2007, -4/+25It's easy to get all worked up and hope he slams Stevens (and he deserves it to). But if Jon just yells at him he'll be no better then the regular media. It's important that he let Stevens speak and ask him poignant questions.
- elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20Yes.I.think.it.most.certainly.will.be.good...We.should.watch.it.and
.then.when.it's.over.we.should.make.fun.of.Ted.Stevens...He.is.the.
embodyment.of.everything.that.is.wrong.with.our.country. - MikeCerm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20If he does actually appear, I hope that Jon Stewart does slightly embarass him. Ted Stevens is basically the most powerful Senator when it comes to telecom/internet legislation, and he doesn't know anything about it! He listens to the telco lobbyists, and does what they say.
To top it all off, he's a Senator from Alaska. Why should a out-of-touch, 80-year old, Senator who represents less than one half of one percent of the population get any say over how the internet should be legislated? He's never even used the thing! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20"My GOD! We're being attacked by HUGE scientiests! Oh NO! It's Marie Curie! We Must Flee!!!"
To hell with that! Watch out for MECHA-EINSTIEN! - evilbob333, on 10/12/2007, -4/+23Jon doesn't need to say anything to make Stevens look bad. He just needs to shut up and let Stevens make an ass of himself. And for the record, Stevens is my senator, and it kinda pisses me off when people make fun of the senile.
- tryferos, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Jon Stewart is thinking to himself: "Do I dare knock a comic meatball as this out of the park?" and "Is it fair for me to get paid doing this, especially when the tard is willing to come on my show to be further embarrassed and made a mockery of?"
- DerekJ212, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18Well evilbob, it pisses me off when people ELECT SENILE CONGRESS MEMBERS!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19Hell, nobody from here will *have* to YouTube it. Guaranteed someone else will do it anyway.
- Clbck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16It was brilliant. Geekee, have you even seen the Daily Show's explanation?
On a different note, is that on youtube? I need to watch that again. - bitcloud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Oh ***** yeah...
I'll put money on him further demonstrating his ignorance/corporate whoredom rather than any kind of enlightening 'rebuttal'
I'll put it right next to "Colbert @ Whitehouse Press Conference.avi" - CatalystGhost, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Geekee: "You can mod me down, but this analysis makes the daily show analysis look like they're talking about tubes and dumptrucks as well."
Wow, so in your first comment you act like an ass, and your response to people modding you down is... an analysis that's barely related to your original comment. Oh, wait, I'm sorry, your little article _TOTALLY_ proves how the Daily Show does worse than Stevens' statements.
So, not only are you a conservative idiot, you're a conservative idiot who doesn't have the courage or knowledge to back up his statements, and instead replaces it with something else to make himself look smarter and more knowledgeable, even though he's not. - antigravity, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16I cut the ethernet cord in my office a while back by accident and ether leaked out everywhere. I had to call a (tube specialist) guy out to get it all put back in.
- bugsy187, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15"Exactly, anyone who thinks the Daily show explanantion was good are the victim's of the FUD campaign going on for net neutrality. It was as lacking in content as savetheinternet.com"
@geekee
Maybe you can explain why AT&T giving the high bandwidth to the rich companies is good for anyone but the rich companies. It's a way of squeezing out competitors and their innovation. Its a way of creating monopoly. It's a racket and AT&T has no right to control the Internet, a technology developed with public tax dollars. - drewpost, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14To be honest, in terms of interviews Jon generally doesn't nail people. I think Stevens going on the Colbert Report would provide for a much more brutal experience for Stevens.
