- stoanhart, on 10/15/2007, -19/+105Awesome! Now I can finally download it and use it! I've been waiting to ditch this crummy firefox browser for ages... Finally, I get the opportunity to spend hours making sure my pages render in all variant of IE.
- Scyth3, on 10/15/2007, -3/+58It was funny the first time. Epic failure on the follow-through.
- hawkspur, on 10/10/2007, -7/+58I still won't use it.
- arcane14, on 10/10/2007, -6/+43Once again, MS plays catch up. Just like the Zune. Next thing you know, they're going to go live with a revolutionary web site called Shoveled, where people can submit stories and vote them up or down in a massive digital popularity contest. Oh, wait...
- nblsavage, on 10/15/2007, -7/+43IE7 is quicker because MS tied it into the OS. Which is also the reason for so many of IE's security issues.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -10/+42No! i'm losing my genuine advantage! Wheres my advantage now? haha
- wisam, on 10/10/2007, -10/+37IE7 will not take a part Firefox's market share nor that of any other browsers. It would certainly take a part of IE6 share. A person who's content with IE6 will be more than happy with IE7. A person who chose an alternative browser will not come back to IE7 since it offers nothing but poorly implemented tabs.
- loganhid, on 10/15/2007, -13/+39Firefox is amazing but i find IE7 a little bit quicker, but Firefox is always my main choice of browser.
- StarlessKnight, on 10/10/2007, -3/+22IE 7 is the AOL of browsers.
- whataboutdave, on 10/15/2007, -7/+25IE 7 is quicker? It fooled me.
- fatas, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17It is a good move because IE6 is the biggest bitch for Web developers.
- Kevin108, on 10/10/2007, -4/+20What's that? Oh, yes, it still sucks, is noncompliant, and has but a fraction of the features you can get with Firefox, but there's no more WGA check! Isn't that like advertising free poop on a stick? BUT IT'S FREE!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16especially once Firefox 3 is out.
- ChristBehemoth, on 10/10/2007, -4/+18yeah like thats gonna help
- GeekSwag, on 10/15/2007, -2/+16Recently, my legally purchased copy of Vista locked me out saying it had detected "An unauthorized change to the operating system." Clicking a "More info" link sent me to a WGA site that told me I was a dirty pirate. Windows had deemed me unworthy and was preventing me from using a product that I paid money for. How dare I want to use something I OWN. It was just the thing to push me to move to linux. Haven't looked back since.
- scoot2006, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15Anyone I know that pirates anything refuses to use IE anyways.. so what the ***** will this help?
- captainpete, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14and now, your moment of zen
- canthraxp, on 10/15/2007, -0/+12I'm guessing, when Firefox 3 comes out, the tubes will blow, and we will see a +10% of grow on firefox side.
Good for Microsoft and IE, but IE still doesn't render webpage like W3C wants to. - tony23, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12it wasn't funny.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13You could always just middle click on links in Firefox to open them in a new tab. But I guess you're just retarded.
- Breepee, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Or from Vista, to increase sales.
- JasonCox, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11"Finally, I get the opportunity to spend hours making sure my pages render in all variant of IE."
You develop for IE3, 4 and 5? Wow. - MioTheGreat, on 10/15/2007, -3/+12It's a mixed blessing. In Vista, at least, all of that tie in helps it out. It's rigged to run at a low integrity level, and thanks to UIPI and UAC and stuff, you end up with a copy of IE that even if fully hijacked, can't even put a file on your desktop. It is, dare I say, more secure than Firefox in its default configuration on Vista. I mean, vulnerabilities have been found in it, yes (And they've been patched), but I seriously doubt we'll ever see an IE7 vulnerability on Vista that allows for installation of software thanks to its IL.
- DCstewieG, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Wouldn't it be Shovell? Or at least Shoveld?
- jcaino, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10you can also configure in the settings that new windows open in a new tab instead. no extensions needed. i gotta agree (again) with macshiba.
- wisam, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11Guys, you don't get. He's not talking about how easy it is to open tabs nor is he talking about moving tabs around. He wants new tabs to be open next to the current tab and not in the far right. Yet this is not a reason to prefer IE7. Opening a new tab in IE7 just freezes the browser until the page is loaded. Good luck sticking to IE7 just because you don't want to use a small extension in Firefox.
- inactive, on 10/15/2007, -7/+15I don't know what's going on with your PC, but it obviously ***** sucks.
- inactive, on 10/15/2007, -1/+9No, not really, atleast not anymore.
- neilbaylor, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11***** right!
this should be the beginning of the end for ie6 -- front-developers rejoice! - ninjasquirrel, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10I just don't like the layout of opera for some reason. I'd disagree with Firefox being "trendy".... it wasn't when I started using it.
Also, Opera fanboys annoy me; every time I see someone looking all high and mighty because they use Opera and calling anyone who uses anything else morons I'm even more glad that I don't use it. - dezertrat, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8ctrl T man, real nerds use keyboard shortcuts
- MioTheGreat, on 10/10/2007, -5/+12Vista's market share is greater than OSX or Linux, so I think it's fair to say that a good number of people are using it.
- ArmchairAthlete, on 10/15/2007, -0/+7I see this on multiple computers. Though the crashing sometimes seems to be caused by plugins like flash or adobe acrobat. One amusing crash came as the feedback agent plugin they have was asking me if I wanted to opt-in for giving feedback.
The mem hogging is pretty common after enough browsing/tabs. It's pushing 200MB right now.
I dunno, say what you want but I've had these experiences with FF. It's not perfect despite what the zealots say. But there are still many good things about it. - oderdigg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7LOL... .good one.
Maybe they'll come up wtih Microsoft Life to compete with iLife. Of course you would have no life if you needed either of these... - InsaneMachine, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Firefox 2 lets you drag tabs around to the positions you want.
- captainpete, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7You were probably viewing a web site that was "designed for IE"
- mrmacky, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Yes but Opera is not open source ;)
- kingyubba, on 10/10/2007, -7/+13you couldn't pay me to use that ***** browser. FF FTW!
- hardcorerikki, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Who cares if WGA is not bundled in the IE7 *installer* ? You can bet they will just shove WGA into our computers via other ways, programs or thanks to the stealth forced "Windows Update" update. Just like Steam code got into the ATI drivers, you could bet that WU update is WGA-related in particular.
Sorry MS, but you'd have to pay me to install your cruppy IE7, so never mind, me touching that turd with anything shorter than a 10 foot pole ;) - Elranzer, on 10/15/2007, -5/+10Just a matter of time until they remove WGA altogether, from XP at least.
- alpha94, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7I've tried various versions of Firefox when they have come out and really wanted to like it, but just didn't. I found it too slow and even more frustrating were the bugs and page rendering not working properly. I personally like IE7...even if it uses more RAM than it should.
- jcaino, on 10/15/2007, -2/+7i think firefox has been open on my work computer for over a month. one window consistently 8 tabs open and the other varies between 2 and 20. no problems with crashing/hanging here.
- Orrent, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6I have IE, Firefox and Opera.
And while I do like Opera i tend to always use firefox because of adblock. I hate ads with a vengeance. - brickbat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5my ff in Ubuntu its solid as a rock. Its usually addins that cause it to crash.
- inactive, on 10/15/2007, -0/+5google "firefox preftech"... there is a program which loads firefox into memory (same thing MS does to IE) so that FF is *just* as fast as IE in start up :D
also, if you run both browsers and monitor their memory, they are the same. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8I dugg you up just because everyone has the right to use what they want, but have you given Firefox a fair chance? It's a lot more secure than IE7, and if you found an addon that you liked, I bet you'd never need a reason to go back to IE.
- nernie, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6or just double click to the right of the last tab...
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+9i hate opera because the UI ***** sucks.
- jedi851508, on 10/15/2007, -0/+5I hardly ever take the time to edit my dvd rips, so I usually end up with those anti-piracy trailers intact. I always find it kind of ironic when I see them. :)
- Dhalgren, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5See what I did here? It's called replying...
