- Genma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11fascinating. the most interesting thing about this is the amount of crawling the bots do compared to the efficiency of the indexing. seems like yahoo is out to crawl everything it can while the quality of the results is never as good as googles'(?). this says alot about how well the different algorithms work. surprising how few pages msn indexes, I wonder why.
- stalinvlad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Does this mean google & MSN attempt to filter out spammy results or that shallow searches return better quality results than trying to do the lot as yahoo did?
yahoo, I have found, seems to return a lot of spamesque results, but then I don't use it much
I can't think I ever used MSN, perhaps I should
On another note Siteadvisor, a Firefox plugin that attempts to indicate yucky sites, does NOT WORK on Yahoo's results
Digg - mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6yeah but, this one was submitted by kevin rose..
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5If you are interested in Search Engine Results (versus spidering), the ongoing SEO contest has some interesting differences between Google, MSN, and Yahoo - see table here:
http://www.watching-paint-dry.com/v7ndotcom-elursrebmem/results/ - Rmplstltskn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I like the layout on that site. Nice 'n simple.
- Nessguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Very well written. Even though I didn't understand some of it I still found it fascinating.
- ElectricGrandpa, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Someone had to say it:
"In this period the three mayor search engines requested more than"
The mayors have search engines?
Um... - chickenlegs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I see yahoo crawls the most, but that could just mean Google senses spam and stops crawling.
- zatrix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The graphs are fasinating! I love statistical data
- dsterry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What I find fascinating is just how much time these search bots spent on what is for them a completely useless site. Don't they use some page rank to figure out whether to index or not? If a site's importance figures in, it may be that MSN and Google place more of their search bots in better places. I also like their graphs...the trees are pretty.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2more page views is not necessarily an indicator that the search engine is 'better'. the fact that yahoo continued to crawl worthless websites might indicate a less intelligent searching algorithm.
google has also slowed their bot-crawling at web-owner's complaints. too active crawling can lead to alot of problems for smaller websites.. - JCowdy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes, while Yahoo's bots might be the most active, they are not quite the brightest. If you take a look down toward the bottom and compare the yahoo and Google trees, you will notice a huge difference. Yahoo's search tree is very random and sparatic, it lacks a sense of depth and order. While Google's bot on the other hand searches more systematicly and orderly. It recognizes page rank and importance and crawls them accordingly.
- armbar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Congratulations.

That's why there are problems with link farms pushing spam results to the top. Somewhere, someone, some time ago figured out how to abuse pagerank - andor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yes, I agree. There is no conclusion to this. And like someone has mentioned, the writing is also sloppy. Not well made. But the graphs were good although the analysis was directionless.
- oldcyborg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I think that unless you can learn a search engines "methods", then you are better off to stick with google. Which seems to consider the possiblities of what you might really be trying to ask...
Of course, even that is personal. hehehe
Cyborg
yeah - BubbleBobble, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Nice story, but it lacks a discussion/conclusion IMHO
- Randy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2This is a duplicate story...

The original could've used a much better title. - Golumbus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1drunkmenworkhere ? they've done some serious stuff. Cheers !
- eyrieowl, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1fascinating. thank you for that.
- ThanatosDiggs, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1I've mostly been using Google lately because I have almost always received the results that I needed fast. I used to use yahoo a bit but I have found google to work better for me and tastewise my eyes feel better looking at Google than Yahoo.
- Rmplstltskn, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1Looks like the Yahoo bots are most active.
