- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+100if he wont sell to us then we shall take it by force. Mem pushes out in his bathtub/ ship and raises the pirate flag.
- wiener, on 10/12/2007, -1/+921 billion $ for a piece of rusty metal?? they should think about getting a satellite instead
- Nick22, on 10/12/2007, -3/+89Its a good thing we arnt buying sealand, we are buying an island instead
- dracostimpy, on 10/12/2007, -9/+68They should change the name to "C-land". *****.
- xyc0n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+57They really should get a satellite with a lot of storage and host files there. Interplanetary copyright law?
- JonForTheWin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+45They should have taken the money. Looks like we're going to have to take it by force. Land 'hoy!
- alephsmith, on 10/12/2007, -3/+46Not that smart, considering that the nation was founded by a PIRATE RADIO STATION!!!
Hypocrites. - Jussles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+43Yeah, because downloading movies and music is so much worse than "founding" your own country to avoid taxes.
- 800266622, on 10/12/2007, -0/+35not exactly in the position to be turning away potential buyers, are they?
- 800266622, on 10/12/2007, -2/+36"Now stay with me on this one folks. Sally Struthers has a Tiberian junker, which is the favored ship of the Huts, and she has trapped our new CBC ship in a, uh, positronic tractor beam. So we're going to need an ionic tractor disruptor. Not a regular ionic tractor disruptor, but a negative ionic tractor disruptor to help spread the word of Jesus."
- briansalo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+29It's his choice; and as TPB said, they already had alternatives if Sealand didn't work out.
- Gryffydd, on 10/12/2007, -3/+31@dragum00
Commie? What do you call communal sharing of media files? - Szat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25Dammit the RIAA got to him first!
- alephsmith, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22Or maybe the RIAA will buy it themselves after they win their $1.65 trillion lawsuit against AllOfMp3.
- Jozer99, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26How exactly was PirateBay going to come up with $1 billion? Not exactly fund raiser money.
- albi123, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24I think you get around a 5 killometer radius around that rusty piece of metal.
- sotopheavy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21Looks like Prince Michael has a movie coming out... "In fact, I’ve written a book and Hollywood is making a movie out of it, so it would go right against the grain to go into the filesharing thing." I smell a torrent cooking already.
- sn0re, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20You should read up on HavenCo, Sealand's mostly-aborted attempt at a datahaven, free of the restrictions of modern governments. Soon enough, Sealand's "royalty" started turning away customers they found "objectionable", particularly any that would draw the ire of the British government. They turned down some apparently very lucrative deals from porn companies, which could have made the venture actually profitable. As "Prince" Michael even said, they've committed not to undertake any action that would go against the interests of the UK. That's essentially abdicating sovereignty right there.

- klawz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Then the RIAA/MPAA mofia would coerce (or pay) China to shoot it down :(

Satellite Insurance Salesmen rejoice! - azAZ09, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12They had a competing offer from ninjabay?
- raada, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13He rather sell it to some Russian maffioso who kills people and sell drugs for a living, rather than to fileshare "pirates" because that goes against his values.... Good thinking and good choice of moral, you "Prince" of a fake land...
He should surrender the oil platform back to UK, who actually owns it. Or even better, the UK navy should just sink the crap with him on it. - takeda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11broomett:
If the law changes they cannot be held responsible for something they done while it was legal then.
This whole thing was one of their stunt to get popular.
Before their servers were taken down for real, they actually faked one year earlier that they were shut down by MPAA. They're doing it all the time, and it's really funny :))) - ndonohue, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I agree with wiener. I saw some of the pics from in and around sealand- free from international copyright law or not, that place is a piece of rusty junk in the middle of the ocean. I figure, why not just move to a Micronesian island? Nobody really cares about anything like copyright there, and you are in paradise.
- drthipp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10if they're willing to spend $1B they should just launch a satellite. paint a set of skull and crossbones on the side and become the first pirates in space.
- klawz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Sniff Sniff
What is that gawd-awful smell? broomett must be a mpaa/riaa rat. - zephc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9That's ok, a tropical island will be nicer.
- JCSaint, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9But can they defeat a pirate ship?
- JCSaint, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I guess Sealand has no law against the discrimination of badass pirates. ARRR!!!
- hokeywhiteboy, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13I don't know if these guys have really thought it though. America (whose government always acts as big-business wants them to) has continually shown that they will invade or conduct ‘operations’ on ANY soil ANYWHERE if they really want to. If TPB go and start their own country, all it will do is remove ALL protection that their existing government provides them. If they have their own country, all it will take is couple of guys with machine guns and a helicopter to make all the MPAA whinging go away. Heck, even the MPAA could organise it if they wanted to, all they need is a copy of the classifieds from Soldier of Fortune magazine and a few bucks!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Any of you that ACTUALLY THOUGHT this was going to happen are idiots...
- Leevi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8“It’s theft of proprietary rights, it doesn’t suit us at all.”
At least they have some morals, stealing movies and stuff is illegal! But apparently it's not illegal to steal a military base. Hey wait a minute. - EdiciusTsaf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Ummmmm... Sealand? The country that hosted cracks.am?
With the hosting company where anything besides child pornography is/was legal?
And now they are concerned about copyright?
Now that I'd call hypocrisy. - sotopheavy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10We might need to call on the help of our sworn enemies the ninjas to help us with this one! Everyone knows that princes fold to ninjas.
- CatsAreGods, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Yeah, but this isn't business. It's PR.
- geoken, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7You act like there's something wrong with that.
- Cam_86, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Normally i wouldn't bring this up, but this was submitted by me 2 days ago, AND i linked directly to the source(with the video interview)... yet only got 9 diggs.
Digg sure wouldn't suck so much if it wasn't so blatantly clear most of the front-paged stories were dugg by friends of the submitter, and not by those who are actively looking for information about the subject. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Cuba isn't going to let a bunch of modern day "hippies" use a square inch of their land. They have everything already and you have nothing to offer them. If TPB expect to get anywhere they will have to use violence to overthrow an unstable government. Everyone would scream terrorism, but as long as their target was in the Third World nobody would care. They should fundraise to buy a boat, then get people to commit to come on as real pirates. An old oil tanker could pack in a few thousand people outfitted with small arms, and they could motor to their target and slaughter the government. This happens on a daily basis, the trick is keeping control longer than the guys you killed.
Best wishes TPB and her valiant crew of the future. - junkalam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7750mill my ass !
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It Sealand was a real country, that is exactly what I would do even without TPB. They have one guy on there who is probably drunk and asleep 24/7. 3 people in a rented boat and a long ladder could climb up in the night and tie the bastard to his bed.
However, it seems Sealand is not a real country which is why everyone and their dog hasn't fought for supreme power. The second you were imprisoning the previous rulers the British police would be preparing a cell for you. - koregaonpark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5They be real pirates, me bucko! Haven't ye seen thar site?
- rcran, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Why does he care who it goes to?
- vansman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I find it funny that you are all replying to someone who most people have blocked, therefor most people will not see your comments that you were so desperate to get to the top of the page.
- LilRabbitFooFoo, on 08/11/2008, -0/+5What have we learned today, kids? In business, keep your agenda to yourself as long as possible. If the Pirate Bay had been smart, they would have set up a shell company to buy the island, then announced their coup upon setting up residency (and an OC12 line). ;)
- Farik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Direct link to interview: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDgg9WjkUdM
- abood, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6it's the law of the wild man
- TheWriteGuy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I don't understand why the parent is being dug down. I don't doubt for a second that the MPAA or RIAA would hire a military contractor (e.g., Blackwater) to take down Sealand if TPB bought it and moved there. Welcome to the future, my friends.
- actorboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Perhaps you've seen this story:

They got a leeeeeeeeetle way to go yet. - TiMMY8765, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4everytime I hear the satellite idea I am reminded of the old Suprnova.org april fools joke several years ago.
