- zediker, on 10/12/2007, -2/+32Well, I don't watch lost, but you also have to realize while digg is in fact a tech site, it is also a social site. Which means digg is a victim of its own popularity. The problem is most people who are lured here see it as a site where you post interesting things, and not specifically tech. So, the only real way to combat the influx of non-tech related posts, is to control the spread of the popularity of digg to only those who are interested in posting about tech. Which is an impossible endeavor, and yelling about it wont stop it from happening.

lost rules. digg is for what diggers find interesting.. it seems there are plenty of diggers who like watching lost. if you don't find it interesting i've got a simple solution for you: don't digg it and stfu. - starexplorer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+29this one's better btw:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v301/kimsphotos/lost/243bfbf3.jpg - skaughtm, on 10/12/2007, -20/+44do you know anything about the show? shut up. reported as annoying.
- agentgonzo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24Oh, and another one (this seems to be the best one)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v301/kimsphotos/lost/243bfbf3.jpg - phpkerouac, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25I bet Locke wishes he had a screen grab of the map.
- unsakred, on 10/12/2007, -3/+23Heres what the latin on the map reads, and also a few other things.
Agrescit medendo - is Latin motto for SG-9999 it means the cure is worse than the disease
Hic sunt dracones - Here be dragons. (That English mapmakers formerly placed the phrase "here be dragons" at the edges of their known world has somehow become general knowledge... and here is the list of all known historical maps upon which these words appear: )
Malum consilium quod mutari non potest - It's a bad plan that can't be changed.
Credo nos in fluctu eodem esse - I think we're on the same wavelength
Sursum Corda - Lift up your hearts
"Seek not the Spirit, if it hide,
Inexorable to thy zeal:
Baby, do not whine and chide;
Art thou not also real?
Why should'st thou stoop to poor excuse?
Turn on the Accuser roundly; say,
"Here am I, here will I remain
Forever to myself soothfast,
Go thou, sweet Heaven, or, at thy pleasure stay."—
Already Heaven with thee its lot has cast,
For it only can absolutely deal. "
- Emmerson
Ut sit magna, tamen certe lenta ira deorum est. - The wrath of the gods may be great, but it certainly is slow.
Cogito Ergo Doleo - I think therefore I am depressed - agentgonzo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21A 'better' map.

- kindrobot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Fantastic comments.
The score is in:
People who can be enthusiastic about something = 50%
People who think hating all TV makes them seem smarter = 15%
People who think "technology focused" means technology ONLY = 35%
GO ENTHUSIASM! - joebrodie, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18Start to catch up, because it is going to get interesting really soon.
Quick recap: This map was on a blast door that was triggered in an underground hatch. The map can only be seen in black-light. The place that says "I am here" (pointing to the Swan) is where the hatch with the map is. The people on the Island have so far been to 3 hatches in total. However, this clearly show that there are more and a central location with what looks to be tunnels around the island. - rakista, on 10/12/2007, -6/+20Digg since it is user driven can become whatever it wants unlike slashdot with its monolithic editoral control.
- OperatorNo9, on 10/12/2007, -19/+31Why? Because there are no pointy eared first officers or techno babble?
Lost rocks! Also cool are:
-The person who took the screen cap and made the overlay.
-Derek P. for submitting it to Digg.
Definitely dugg. =P - alexander, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12this is a MUCH better shot of it...
http://cmeister2.uwcs.co.uk/hatch.jpg - jessecrouch, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15i think that's actually a pretty weak description of digg - whether it's official or not. so many things end up on digg that aren't technology related (funny stories, horror stories, things about government, national crises) because of the massive user base and fantastic technology of digg.
i understand that the original purpose was tech-related things and is still the major drive of the system, but i think the digg community has crafted digg to be more of an all around QUICK news source - many times for things that don't get published in other places, but lots of people still find really interesting.
afterall.. the news is entirely community driven anyway.. why not let the community drive it in the direction it desires? - Rigas, on 10/12/2007, -3/+126mb enhanced image here...
http://www.projectargo.com/lost-wallenhanced3.png - bulletseed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I'm sorry but I dont think you have any clue what Lost is about. It is very technical and very sci-fi, in an abstract kind of way. Heck, sometimes I think it's more sci-fi than BSG, which is 90% drama (and good drama at that!). Those two are *the* best must-see sci-fi-ish shows on TV atm.
So heck yeah, it should be here! +digg - kindrobot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Buried with 802 diggs and 113 comments.
Something is wrong with DIGG if this happens.
What a bunch of whiny, "it's not tech, so it doesn't belong here" crybabies.
Face it, a lot of you just hate it that you were wrong about this show. - SpacemanSpiff, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11I've actually never watched a single episode of Lost, but I love reading all of the fan theories about it. Posts like this just add to the mystique around it.
I need to add the season sets to my netflix queue. - SweetsGreen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Wow, some people have no lives...but digg because I am one of them.
- blackhand0114, on 10/12/2007, -9/+16If you look at this picture and don't get at all then you are by no means a Lost fan. All lost fans know that this picture will change the whole idea of the hatch.
- durex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7this show is getting so friggin excellent over the last few episodes (altough if they would just be able to go more than 3 shows without a repeat id be ecstatic).
compared to the 98% percent of crap thats spit out of your television, lost is perhaps one of the most original shows to come along in years...
definately awesome... definately dugg. - hemo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9People who did not see s02e17 will not be able to digg this.
In 2x17, a map of stations is revealed on the blast door via an ultraviolet light when the timer counts down.
You can make out "I AM HERE" with an arrow pointing to the SWAN STATION. You can also see the medical station logo, and some new logos that are hard to decipher. One of the new stations is: THE FLAME, with a flame logo.
(from http://lost.cubit.net/investigations.php) - will-rom, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11no... HDTV torrents the only way to watch Lost
- bob645, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I don't know, a show that has a lot to do with a 1980's era mainframe that needs numbers punched into it every 108 minutes in an underground hatch on an island where evil scientists did (or still do) all sorts of evil things sound pretty geeky to me.
dugg - kcghost, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Whats with all the people near the the top not liking this? This is awesome, nobdoy got to see this in detail, Lost Rocks! Furthermore, Digg is used for non-tech stories all the time, its pretty much for good stories.
- starexplorer, on 10/12/2007, -11/+17went to bed last night, hoping someone woudl score with this, wake up and wa-la. awesome.
- DCstewieG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6"Digg should change its profile from tech to general topics"
And where on Digg does it say its "profile" is tech? The word technology appears on the front page ONCE...as a CATEGORY. This story is filed under links. So stop clicking stories outside of the technology category and STFU. Yay 13 year olds. - galfridus73, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Actually, you might want to read the article on Kevin Rose in Business 2.0 this month... Digg is never called a tech news site - it's called a "social news" site. That's where Kevin saw it going a while ago... I'm not surprised that it's changing
You can always go to Slashdot. - netwookiee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6They need to fix digg. This shouldn't have gotten buried simply because of a handful of cry babies screaming..."WAAA.not tech...WAA!"
- MegaSilver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Here is what is made of the writing so far:
On the right
“Interference might also ?event location from ?ige? as listening station cryptography research analysis”
“The Pearl?”
On the bottom right:
“Possible location of zoological research facility”
“Known final resting place of Magnus Hanso, Black Rock”

“Unreadable terrain most * used by (triangle) T (or at) for meteorological research to..”
“Suspected shutdown DA… 10.28.84″ - cleverboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Um, for all the folks that still don't get it... if someone posts something about the Da Vinci Code, they can certainly posts something about Lost. If anything, Lost is far more science fiction that Da Vinci Code ever will be. Not as scifi as Battlestar Galacticca, but entertaining even so. Invisible monsters? Smoke demons? Polar bears, artificial serendipity, social engineering, and te quest for ultimate meaning? Come on. One of the first episodes this season was called "Man of Science, Man of Faith." Tell me that doesn't scream interest from the tech crowd.
- jflint, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I think the blast doors dropped down so that whoever was inside of the hatch (the original darma people) could not venture outside while the food supply was being dropped. Remember, right after the blast doors lifted, that is when jack and kate found the food drop.
Thanks for the Map! Dugg. - Cerebral, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I do not know why people are complaining about this show. I would figure geeks and general tech-oriented people would like this show just to try to figure things out. I will agree with the last couple of posts on how TV has gotten. I do think that writers sometimes have no idea and perhaps may turn to things like the internet now for ideas and plot twists. Another good show to me is Prison Break. I do not know how truthful any of it would be but it is very interesting. Also that show seems to have had season 1 story line all planned out. It will be interesting now that it is back on the air to see what happens.
And to all those that are dissing this post because it is not "tech" enough for you to say it should belong on digg... I believe it has been said once already but... DON"T DIGG THE STORY!!! don't click on the posts to see what it is about. If you cannot use all your "tech" skills to realize that a story named "Screen shot of the map from Lost" is non-tech related then please go back to /. to be hearded around like the mindless cattle you pose as or shut up and DIGG articles you find interesting... or better yet... SUBMIT some interesting "tech" articles so that some "tech" can make front page! This is a purely democratic website and so therefore if you do not like it... change it! - beedun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5God damn i am addicted to this show! Keeps getting better. Thanks for the posts
- Wireddd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5it has more complexity and depth than pretty much everything else on network tv
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Those equations look like the Maxwell equations - electomagnetism.
- etruscan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Last I heard, Kevin Rose commented that Digg was looking into creating new categories for Digg to expand the scope of this site beyond "tech news"... therefore "this isn't tech news" is no longer a valid argument.
- pred8tr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6You can find a show by show synopsis on the official site:
http://abc.go.com/primetime/lost/index.html
Lost is awesome... I think it has a special appeal to Geeks due to it's complexity and depth. Many folks have said that it doesn't belong here but I think it does simply because Geek find it enjoyable. It allows them to use many of the same skills that they use in their profession (and probably consider themselves good at it) except at home. - whalesalad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4BEST. EPISODE. BY. FAR. This one was simply amazing.
- Mesach, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Also in one of the maps there is mention of
"Activity minimal during lockdown and restocking procedures" - antoniojvr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Is there somewhere I can go to rehab for Lost? I've quit smoking before, but this is so much harder.
- conedude13, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I figured that there were just multiple CV's, like they are some type of room or something, and the roman numbers follow the CV. So you have CV1 CV2 ... CV is 105, so CVI is 106, and CVIV is 109. No sence to me.
- cantankerous, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3 A couple you missed (I think these say it all):
Cerberus - is a multi headed dog which guarded the gate to hell.
Liberte te ex inferis - Save Yourself From Hell - niner9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3One of the best TV series shows ever.
- Mesach, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You say that like you assume EVERYBODY took it.
As hard as it is to believe, not everyone who surfs the web anymore is a hardcore geek in the old fashion sense. - e03179, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4LOST is a great show, however, they have nearly "LOST" my attention with all these reruns.
Thankfully, the next couple of shows will not be reruns. - vann, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The equations all have to do with magnetic fields. In E&M, B is the magnetic field, M is the so-called magnetic polarization or magnetization (magnetic moment per unit volume), and H is another field derived from B measured in oersteds.
Come on, kids, remember your introductory E&M! - livesunkept, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5TV Torrents are still a gray area... technically speaking as long as it has the commercials in it from what I understand it is perfectly legal... when you edit out the commercials it becomes like tivo... in which case you are still sort of covered
So in short yes it is legal till someone says otherwise in court. - corser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So, somehow watching a show once a week is equal to partying and drinking all the time? This isn't directed at you in particular, but I hate when people think they are better than someone else because of how they choose to spend their time. I enjoy watching TV, and if people don't that's fine. I happen to find Lost and many other shows, interesting, and entertaining.
