- lougoose, on 07/10/2008, -1/+87Not if Comcast has anything to say about it.
- angusm, on 07/09/2008, -7/+86Scientist: I have found a way to make the Internet sixty times faster. The potential applications are mind-blowing! This must inevitably lead to incredible new scientific or social applications for the benefit of all mankind.
Internet user: Faster pr0n and lolcats - awesome! - tman9084, on 07/09/2008, -5/+75This is no good. When will I have time to use the bathroom if the pages i go to open right away?
- inactive, on 07/09/2008, -8/+77Japanese can make it over 9000x faster
- MikeSD34, on 07/10/2008, -1/+56Laptop. It has changed my browsing habits forever.
- schmitey, on 07/10/2008, -1/+42"and not cost users an extra cent"
Maybe in another country where the ISP's don't gouge the everliving ***** out of us! - Matt88, on 07/10/2008, -2/+39This is the bit I like: "could speed up the internet - and not cost users an extra cent ".
However, I will believe it when I see it. - AnotherDiggGuy, on 07/09/2008, -3/+31Alright, we've been hearing about this so called super duper instant fast internet for years now, yet when was the last time anything amazing hit the mainstream markets? I want a souped up version of the Dial-up to Cable transition I experienced and loved in the late 90's-early 2000's.
- prattmic, on 07/10/2008, -0/+26Even if the upgrade costs nothing, ISPs will charge more because they can.
- Nrvana423, on 07/10/2008, -0/+26Nothing like chatting while dropping some dumpage
- jord, on 07/09/2008, -14/+34it's over 9000!
- spider418, on 07/10/2008, -0/+19Are you dropping some now!?
- uglymike, on 07/10/2008, -1/+18Maybe Telstra should talk to the Japanese and stop ass raping Australia with 1.5Mb. ***** Telstra!
- bwdd, on 07/10/2008, -2/+19*Joke about fast porn*
- Gizza, on 07/10/2008, -0/+16"Prof Eggleton said initial testing of the technology showed it was possible to achieve internet speeds 60 times faster than the current Telstra network."
Ohh, so about as fast as every other ISP then. - rome747, on 07/10/2008, -0/+14I like my porn slow thank you.
- jer2eydevil88, on 07/10/2008, -0/+14Compression? No but seriously I read the article and WTF! Optical transmission can't help unless we have an optical infrastructure!! If we had Fiber Optic cables to our homes already I doubt we would even be digging this crap.
- p0ss, on 07/10/2008, -0/+13hey consumers, we just got somethign for free, now you get to pay for our new premium package!
- greeniemeani, on 07/10/2008, -2/+15But will it be able to run Crysis?
- 64bit, on 07/10/2008, -0/+13Internet companies could see this as an opportunity to charge more.
Cool technology though... - rowlodge, on 07/10/2008, -1/+13trouble is everything new, takes 10 years to forever to get replaced.
- gh0st3000, on 07/10/2008, -0/+12"We made the internet faster! Just pay us double now plz."
- Azerael, on 07/10/2008, -1/+13What, 9000!?
- gh0st3000, on 07/10/2008, -0/+11You need fiber optic cables on the main backbones because they transmit vast amounts of information back and forth. By the time you get down to individual use, an ethernet cable can already carry far more bandwidth than you can buy from an ISP.
- LongShlong, on 07/10/2008, -4/+14All the same ***** content at sixty times the speed!
- Lokomis, on 07/10/2008, -0/+9[ ~ ] sv_maxplayers 1200 [◄─┘]
- spider418, on 07/10/2008, -0/+83 min divided by 60, carry the 9... Oh great! I can now be done in 3 seconds!
This could get messy... - MildApplause, on 07/10/2008, -3/+11Cool! More bandwidth for pages that have widgets, banner ads, flickr links, twitter links, cameoHD ads, and mp3s that play whether you want them or not!!! Awesoem zomg!!!!
- NathanielJ, on 07/10/2008, -0/+8More bandwidth to download double posts!
- Zector, on 07/10/2008, -0/+7I would have loved this to be an article from 1995.
- Narrwald, on 07/10/2008, -0/+7After reading the article, I still don't understand how they improved the current switches. Cool, anyway.
- inactive, on 07/09/2008, -7/+14I'd like to see faster internet for no extra cost but I don't see it happening for quite awhile... Whether it be because of government being lazy or because of the corporations (eg. comcast) being greedy.
- bloggerjul, on 07/10/2008, -0/+7you get your bathroom breaks from the loading time of your internet...?
Man... your connection must really suck... - chinolofus, on 07/10/2008, -1/+7my dell e1505 actually just caused blisters on my chest. i was online for about 2-3 hours in bed with no shirt on. it was hot but not uncomfortable. a few hours later a huge blister appeared. after 3 weeks i still have a big red mark.
- MildApplause, on 07/10/2008, -3/+9Cool! More bandwidth for pages that have widgets, banner ads, flickr links, twitter links, cameoHD ads, and mp3s that play whether you want them or not!!! Awesoem zomg!!!!

- GrooTheWanderer, on 07/10/2008, -0/+5"Without costing the consumer any more." I like their sense of humour.

Scientist is Thinking: Faster pr0n and lolcats - awesome! - dragon76, on 07/10/2008, -1/+6FiOS
- Narrwald, on 07/10/2008, -0/+5Buried for not making any sense.
- Needles13, on 07/10/2008, -0/+4Thank god. My bang bros. dl's are taking forever!
- jimmiss, on 07/10/2008, -1/+5Scientist discovers plane ticket to Japan. They have 150mbit there.
- MildApplause, on 07/10/2008, -0/+4I know. Sorry, dunno why it did that. Point taken.
- JettaMan, on 07/10/2008, -0/+4I predict the Australians absolutely fumble getting this technology into the markets. And besides, I have more faith in engineers improving technology than these ubiquitous "scientists".
- Greengoo, on 07/10/2008, -2/+6What's the command window say about his ping?
It's over 9000ms!
What, 9000!? - Gracenotes, on 07/10/2008, -0/+4Sounds great, but ISPs in the United States are too busy investing in software to throttle P2P networking and policing imaginary bandwidth caps to actually improve our infrastructure. Good luck with that in Australia anyhow.
- soupr, on 07/10/2008, -0/+4Sydney sucks
- TheRealToma, on 07/10/2008, -0/+3...so is it 60 or a 100 times faster?
