Scientist: Holographic television will become reality

It sounds a lot like a wacky dream, but don't be surprised if within our lifetime your TV brings you face-to-face with life-sized versions of your gaming heroes.

    in live action, a camera records what it sees and there is no data to fill in for what's unseen.

    It's more like 2D with depth.
    I saw one of these and they still need a lot of work (the viewing angles are very limited)

Disregarding that part, getting a full color version of that laser scan would be ridiculously hard I would think, especially in real time. For the current technology, the only practical use for these screens would be gaming and other non live motion broadcasts.

    As much as I would love the idea of watching a football game in 3d, it seems completely out of the picture for at least the next 20-30+ years.
