[this step may take a while]" - 0x2a, on 10/12/2007, -3/+80Ok, don't bother clicking through twelve steps of the hack unless you are really bored... basically, you can make a mont blanc refill fit a regular pen by cutting off the top 1/8'' of plastic. Honestly, that's all it says.
- johndi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+58Oh, great now they'll put a chip in it so they can say you're violating the DMCA.
- chrisfarber, on 10/24/2007, -2/+48Good idea, let's all kick the server while it's down!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+49"...wannabe losers who opt for the ***** ass rollerball."
"Wannabe", as in "pretentious douche who spends $200 on a pen just to appear superior to those who opted for the '***** ass' pens?"
"Step up to the big leagues you cheap ass loser, and get a real man's pen."
A real man's *pen*? That's an oxymoron... what is this, 16th century France?
"Roller balls are so late 20th century."
HA! Pens as a fashion statement... You don't sound as MANLY as you claim to be, Nancy :P - kalphegor, on 10/12/2007, -4/+38"Step 4 Disassemble pen.
If you need help here, ask a 5 year old." - Mac2492, on 10/12/2007, -4/+37Why get a $0.20 pen for $0.20 when you could get a $0.20 pen for free?
- mikwit, on 10/12/2007, -3/+29I have a Mont Blanc pen, and it is the best pen I have ever used. I wouldn't spend $200 on it, (got it as a gift) but its cool to have a really expensive pen around. It makes me feel special.
- Tom_Riddle, on 10/12/2007, -18/+40If you don't know how to make a five year old
you probly are one
go ask mommy and daddy where you came from - Dave21212, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19They also have all 12 steps on one page, Google Cache here:

The main step is #2: Purchase the brand new G2 Pro and Mont Blanc Rollerball refills from your local office supply store. Cost: G2 Pro=$3, double Mont Blanc refil=$12
Cut about 1/8" of plastic cap off the end of the Mont Blanc and viola ! $200 pen for $12 ! - cooperaa, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21Hey, I've got an idea! Why don't we just post all the steps in the comments - that way no one has to RTFA!
- davidirock, on 10/12/2007, -5/+23The point of a pen is to write. If it only looks pretty then it waists space.

- zdiggler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13When I spend a penny on a pen, It will be lost. If I found or got a pen accidently it will stick with me for a long time.
- Chongo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I see this being on some Law and Order episode.
Wait a sec! it was a bic pen with mont blanc ink! It couldn't of been the rich guy! it was the cook! - MadMan6680, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I always thought the worlds best pens came from here.
http://www.penisland.net - tidu, on 10/12/2007, -17/+26Mont Blanc isn't the first. I can get $200 in 1 minute with my pen15
... - ElGuano, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Plus, you can use your bic pen to obtain a few free bikes and kryptonite locks! Try that with a Mont Blanc.
- MOGua, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Using a Mont Blanc right now. The resin tube feels good in the hand; with just the right amount of friction, so the flesh betwen your index finger and your thumb doesn't hurt.
- dwemer, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Holy crap, what longwinded *****. I could sum it up in two sentences:
1. Buy a G2 pen and a mont blanc refill.
2. Cut off an 1/8" piece off of the top of the refill so it will fit in the G2 - super_duper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Hehe cool "hack". I will try it later this week. I didn't think the ink had such an effect on writing performance.
- Fishy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8The reason why it is waterproof is to prevent others from changing writing on checks and the sort.
- clickmyface, on 10/12/2007, -7/+14jgbiggs,
i hope that my sarcasm meter is just broken.
otherwise you need to leave. - clickmyface, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Hahahaha.
Just because a pen company uses diamonds, gold, and platinum, and says they make the worlds finest pen; doesnt make it so.
A pen is hugely important to me and once the old style black and white bics changed their cap and mine ran out of ink I decided to search for a replacement. I tried around 8 different pens over a span of about 4 months and finally found this gem:
http://www.staedtler.ca/triplus_ball_gb.Staedtler?ActiveID=25051
the triplus concept, especially with this particular pen of the series, is fantastic. The feel is amazing, and its slightly longer than the average pen. The ink is ISO 12757, type fine or medium. My pen came with the medium, an excellent high contrast ink that can be cheaply replaced. The best ball point pen i've ever used.
It cost me about $1.25 at my University's bookstore. Thats a lot better than spending $3 $12. - Reaperducer, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Nice idea, but the web site is really quite annoying. Talk about gratuitous use of floating elements.
- xlivevilx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8those are really good pens
ive used one a few times, but there long and usually fall out of my pocket after a while, but i will agree, they write VERY nicely
on a side note, i was once told by phychaetrist(however the hell you spell that) to always write in blue ink over black. blue, phycologically is a nicer color and you will get a better reaction from the reader. Its also easier to read if you have bad handwriting
just some advice to keep with you
NOTE: the spell check didnt work for me,thats why i left spelling errors - Brady, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Sooooo if I read your comment right.... You effectively turned a $200 pen in to a 3 dollar pen? Good work.
You should get one of these Mont Blanc refills and cut off the end a little and fit it in your nice pen. - davidirock, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10I've been doing this to bic pens except instead of replacing them with mont black I used G2. But now I guess I should move up to replacing G2 with mont black so I guess later on I'll replace mont black pens with bic ink and then replace that with.................
- kalphegor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7@Mac2492 where? can you mail it to me as an attachment? i will send you a free, brand new, top of the line reply in exchange
- jimbo92107, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"1. Buy a G2 pen and a mont blanc refill.
2. Cut off an 1/8" piece off of the top of the refill so it will fit in the G2"
--Still too long.
How about, "Put a Mont Blanc refill in a G2 pen, after snipping off the last 1/8th inch."
All the extra crap reminded me why people pay good money to see a PROFESSIONAL comedian. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5
This is a great tip. Here's another:
1) Buy a Chrysler K-Car (preferably tan brown)
2) Replace the tires with those from a Ferrari 430
3) Experience what it feels like to ride on tyres from a Ferrari.
4) Buy a Blackberry to take down all those numbers those fly girls throw at you. - mrgreen4242, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6This actually gave me an idea for a summer project: I'm going to carve my own pen. I'll get a dowel of appropriate size, drill out the center, widdle the basic shape, sand it smooth, then stain and varnish it. I'll design it around these refills (I love a smooth writing pen)... Hm, I'll have to thread a little bit of the end, but I wonder if I should make the "stopper" an internal bit with a small screw going into the main shaft or an external fitted piece that goes over the main part. Hardest part would be drilling out the center; I wonder if you can buy hollow dowels?
Before you think I am crazy, I have a few reasons for this. One, I write constantly at work, and a good pen is essential so I don't go mad. Two, I can't hang on to a pen for more than a week; people walk off with them. This one would be much easier to keep track of, being so distinctive. Three, you know it would be cool, even if you won't admit it aloud. ;)
PS What's up with the spellchecker? - jmnormand, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6the quality of the roller and ink will both play a role. however i think 90% of the sticker price in a mont is the mont...
- dizzledaking, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I'm somewhat of a pen snob. I won't write with cheap ass bics, i hate em. Pilot Hi-Tecpoint for me, V5, no V7. I can't wait until i can afford a true snob pen.
On that note, what pens besides the traditional mont blanc pen will give me amazing writing and good elite status? And don't get me wrong, I'm not daft enough to believe any really expensive pen will have 6$ refills. - clickmyface, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5haha, you laugh but I have a friend who works at NOAA (oceanic research for the U.S. Gov.) and since using my triplus he has one strapped to his waterproof paper/clipboard. Yes, they do make/use waterproof paper. especially out on the ocean.
i know too much about pens..... - enderwig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5This site sells everything you need to make your own pens. Just do a search for pen kits
http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=11476 - elsnow77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5dude, install this greasemonkey script (well, if you are using FF and greasemonkey), and on the side of every story, there is a link to 3 diff. caches
http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/1807 - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4just tried this right now... works perfectly. the ink is freakin' sweet.
"I don't notice any significant difference between a noremal G2 and the modified one."
the ink quality is way better. the constuction of the tip is better as well, as it has a more constant ink flow. those germans know their pens.
try this: with the g2 stock refill, scribble really fast by shaking your wrist quickly. Now do the same thing with the mont blanc refills. notice the difference now? stuff like that is important to those of us in the art/design field. - rm999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4the materials you'll need from office depot:
http://www.officedepot.com/ddSKU.do?level=SK&id=794047
http://www.officedepot.com/ddSKU.do?level=SK&id=575142
it would come to 15 dollars for 2 pens - tagawa, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6You still have to read all the steps, though. That's half the fun.
- shiftless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Mont Blac pens... they are not as high end as you think. They bust open when you go on a flight. What good is that to a business man?
- meefin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4You can also click "View All" near the top left to view all of the steps on one page.
- Roger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'd take a pencil over a pen any day.
- Korivak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5This is a pet peeve of mine...you only save $200 if you were going to spend $200 on a pen in the first place. Otherwise, you've only just not spent money that you weren't going to spend in the first place. Or worse, spent $3 on a fancy refill when you can buy a perfectly fine pen for less than a dollar, which is actually a loss of $2 a pen, not a $200 savings.
I use Sanford Uni-Balls. Great pen, costs less than a buck a pen for a ten pack, so I just buy a lot and don't worry about losing them or having them run dry. - crimoid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I tried this last week and it works great.
- hamish, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4why must the digg effect beat the hell out of the sites server..... i wanna see this stuff :(
- diggtard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Pen featuring boot camp but in reverse. Ugly outside that is cheap, utilitarian and used by the masses; inside a high-tech, good quality product currently used by a minority.
- dlichteman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I doubt it because this will bring them more business because not everyone can buy a 200 dollar pen, but 15 is reasonable. Also now everyone is gonna run to staples to get these refils.
- Roger, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Too bad none of the caches work.
