- TriZz, on 10/13/2007, -1/+91I have a feeling that if they win any of these upcoming court cases, that they'll buy that island afterwards. How ironic would that be? I mean, seriously. Big Media plans a strike against The Pirate Bay because of their torrents. Big Media emails leak on the torrents, which gives The Pirate Bay enough evidence to sue them. This gives The Pirate Bay enough money to buy an island in which their whole operation is forever secure.
If that isn't the biggest "***** you" ever, I don't know what is... - Trocisp, on 10/12/2007, -4/+46Dude, it's an island bought by geeks.... Girls will never go there.
- inactive, on 10/14/2007, -9/+42Obviously a slow news day. Nothing new here.
- Eshestun, on 10/13/2007, -2/+34Avast! There always be hope mate, Arrrr!
- limezor2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+29I would so move to whatever island they (hopefully) eventually buy. But there would need to be girls, and lots of them.
- z0zin, on 10/13/2007, -6/+30Look I like what the Pirate Bay guys are doing as much as the next guy, but the whole own your own island, where no copyright laws exist isn't going to happen. Even if they manage to buy a forested island in the middle of nowhere, how much is it going to cost to bring in the infrastructure that is needed for the tracker. Sorry to spoil everyone's dream :(
- Cerebral, on 10/13/2007, -0/+18Not only that but the second they do get their own "island" or "country" I'm sure the United States will be there on day 1 to "liberate" the country :)
- Trocisp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Island micronation, if you read the article.
- Tenoq, on 10/13/2007, -0/+15"Missile to C5."
"Hit!" - stklaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14What if they get attacked by battleships?
- Elohir, on 10/13/2007, -2/+15There will be girls, hot girls. Problem is you have to share them.
- andrewcsayer, on 10/13/2007, -1/+14I can see this cat and mouse game going on for decades
- Kugo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12It's no longer about TPB. It's about the maggots at the RIAA and the MPAA. It's not TPB against them - it's EVERYBODY against them.
- Koldkompress, on 10/13/2007, -0/+10Maybe if they own their own island, they can create an embassy from their own homes or whatever so that they have diplomatic immunity?
- kodybryson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10The Pirate Bay is starting to remind me of The KLF, and I love that.
- postal21, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9i might be drunk...
but seriously in todays global economy, you buy your own island, does this really give you the "soveriegnty" to just do whatever the hell you want? I mean im really serial here... if youre ***** with multiple-multi-national super conglomerate corporate interests... youre going to get ***** up. whether its by another countries army, or some other private blackwatered firm. good luck pirate bay, may ye sails fly high, but jesus christ this isnt possible with the information age. - Goblinkiller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7They just got to hire some private military contractors to fix that exactly like is done by guerrillas in Colombia. Wasn't Blackwaters kicked out of Iraq? Maybe an opening for Pirate Bay to struck a deal?
- etruscan, on 10/13/2007, -0/+5In space, no one can hear you download.
- Djchicken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Ahh... But that was the thing with sealand, it was sovereign, which is why it was so damn expensive.
- bigt8dogg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4They mentioned that Havenco would be their ISP... Havenco's website states that "Havenco is now only selling Data Centre services directly to organisations that wish to buy rack space, power and large amounts of bandwidth routed to their Point of Presence (POP)." I believe that means they already have an infrastructure in place.
- john570, on 10/13/2007, -2/+6You could always download virtual Betty.
- dbr_onix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4If you don't want to guess, just look at what happened to cassette tapes and VHS in terms of "being the death of the [music/film] industry" - it'll pretty much end up in the same manner, it's "the death of the industry", then a few years later, when they stop trying to fight it constantly, it actually becomes a huge part of said industry..
- Sirocco, on 10/13/2007, -1/+5I'm thinking a cruise missile in the middle of the night. If they relocated to an island and established their own country they'd be taken out instantly by the US or UK. Piracy == Terrorism, you know.
- SikHeadTom, on 10/13/2007, -0/+3Next they will be setting up their servers in space
- stellarceltic, on 10/13/2007, -0/+3What's worse... those looking for child porn, or High School Musical 2?
- kag9000, on 10/13/2007, -1/+4With the imminent implementation of a huge corporate run, police super-state in Europe, and the abolition of individual state soveriegnty for a federal continental bureaucracy, the Pirate Bay is on borrowed time unless they can find somewhere else to relocate, or we can find a way to stop our current politicians wet-dreams of this frankenstein state.
- expert01, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I updated the wiki with some information from Wikipedia

As stated by international signed convention, these are the requirements to be a State:
(a) a permanent population
(b) a defined territory
(c) government
(d) capacity to enter into relations with the other states. - leethemanpowell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3TPB can be the biggest thieves and criminals on the face of the world, that doesn't mean I won't use their tracker.
- thegreathal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3*Digg needs more KLF people*
- TheHayze, on 10/13/2007, -1/+4You know, a thought occurred to me the first time they tried to by them selves their own country/island. That a week or two after they do, and all the legalities of their sovereignty are settled, they're raided once again. But this time it's a military/"private security contractors", and the servers, and trackers are taken down for good this time. What's really to stop any of this from happening? Sure if the people who set this in motion are found, they'd be held for murder/assassination of, I dunno, can I say "president" here? Will they be official rulers of this land? I think so.
For protections, they'd have to hire some top notch mercs, man. Or start recruiting for their own army. The great geek army... armed with pulse laser rifles, and they look like master chief. It would be known as the great Geek Uprising of 2020. It lasted a whole 7 hours! It'll be a 7 hour war! - Zakalwe2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4It's Kinakuta! The Haven! (Choirs of angels shout "Behold!" in glorious unison)
- picsectionpleez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Dude these guys rock SO MUCH do not think for a second they can't keep the party going. Arrrrr!
- Teo14, on 10/13/2007, -0/+2Should just buy an ocean liner and run their website from international waters like real pirates!
- mjaleo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Satire meter calibration required...
- wautrey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So 3 out of 10 equates to "pretty much all the recent searches" now? Riiiiight.
- yunus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+230% is still pretty scary
- justinlarsen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Dude thats what the helicopter port is for, quick getaways. ***** duh!
- geddon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Damn tracker posting thieves! /sarcasm
- smackafiyah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Thats where the treasure be! Yaaaaaaarrrrrrrg!!
- fLUx1337, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5OMFG, people donated thosands in hopes of them buying Sealand, now they wan't more??
I love the pirate bay as much as the next person, but I'm sorry, its going too far when you ask for literally millions in donations to buy an island. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Heh, nice one! :)
- scottykempf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Governments have already claimed all the islands, so they would probably fall under the "rule" of some country. Maybe somewhere in the middle of nowhere, but then how would they get there, get power, get internet?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Guilty until proven innocent? That works in the States, but some other countries are more sensible
- Akaricloud, on 10/13/2007, -3/+4Lmao, read the article, scrolled to the footer and saw pretty much all the recent searches were for child porn
http://images.xnr.be/d78dee13c7b84bcbdcf7745f4cd9c ... - UltraMegaFilms, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1jesus christ... I'm liberal, but the way you worded this was WAAAAAAAAY too ridiculous! puff puff pass or something.
- HentaiJeff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1IT'S A BOMB!!!!!
- form3hide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1damn liberals.
- ShootTheCore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Except the burning a million pounds part I am sure...
- NeoNevermore, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2You sank my battleship
- justinx0r, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Um, it actually doesn't work like that in the US.
