- unicornhunter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5maybe HE buried this submission! ahhhhha
On a side note, SEO is almost an automatic digg down for many. - unicornhunter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This is going to be interesting
- evilempire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Ok - I'll be the one to ask...
What the hell is a SEO site? - Skitzzo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@unicorn,
That's why they should make the buries just a negative vote or something. It likes a few digg downs to bury something but 40 or 50 (or more) diggs to make something popular. Digg is supposed to be a democracy right? And yet a few people can keep any article from seeing the light of day... - unicornhunter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3..but he did threaten other sites that don't use WP
- unicornhunter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I agree, but then you got all the crapsense spam submissions with 5 dashes in the domain that you see all the time...those are a problem. So if this reaches 50 diggs, it'll become popular regardless????
- unicornhunter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2please do update. I don't remember ever hearing of a planned hack and then watch it unfold
- Skitzzo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, the same thought ran through my head about maybe its some sort of media stunt but I don't really see that being the case given the hacker's website title. I don't really see GreyWolf or Stuntdubl doing something like this but I've been wrong before.
- Mano70, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2According to the list not only SEO communities will be attacked:
www.digg.com – I’m not aiming for a deface; rather I will find & release ways to game their “democratic” system (This will make happy some webmasters out there)
www.techcrunch.com – Had access to their server until they updated their stuff. This is the biggest target on the list… - PacoDG, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The only reason im digging this, is because someone on my friends list had dugg it. No matter how many extra diggs this gets, I believed, once buried, it stays buried (not exactly sure).
Not to spam out my own story, but its unrelated to this anyways, but I just had something front paged, only to have it gone for I have no clue what reason http://digg.com/gaming_news/Lost_Planet_ships_1_million_Go_Rent_Buy_this_now_if_you_own_a_360
I know of course Digg would never release their algorithm, however, some type of changes have to be made. - Skitzzo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2EDIT: never mind, Mvandemar's explanation was much better and he beat me to it anyway. But yeah, other sites such as digg.com techcrunch, johnchow and others were on the list as well.
- Skitzzo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2apparently v7n has also been hit... the list keeps on growing. So far it looks like the hacker used a script to exploit wordpress...
I'll update as I find out more. - Skitzzo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This submission got buried. Why? Oh wait, digg doesn't tell you. By who? Oh digg doesnt tell you that either. >:(
- unicornhunter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Exactly, only time will tell I guess.
- Skitzzo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2He's started another blog hosted at blogspot.com. Apparently he's claiming he's a Canadian and has started posting in the Digital Point Forums.
- mvandemar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It stands for Search Engine Optimization, or the endeavor of getting websites to rank higher in the search engines for their respective keywords/phrases. It looks like the targets aren't just search engine related, but also includes those that are popular amongst the SEO crowd as well (ie, Digg is on the list).
-Michael - Skitzzo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This story can still become "popular" but I don't think it will show up on the home page. At least that's how I THINK it works.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Techcrunch hosted by MediaTemple, so i guess it will be hard to break some secure servers.
- Skitzzo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm sure there's a record and this isnt anywhere close. I've seen stories with 75 diggs not go popular once they've been buried.
- Skitzzo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yeah, to be honest I'd be surprised to see him get digg, digitalpoint or the black hat sites. It's not smart to warn the targets first I wouldn't think.
- Skitzzo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wordpress just shut down the guy's blog. Basically he just used the exploit that the newest release of Wordpress (2.0.7) fixes. If you use WP, I'd upgrade.
- jimbocook, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So, is there a record for most diggs withoug becoming popular?
Seriously, you can undigg but you can't take back an accidental bury????????!!!!!!!!!!!! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's either a crafty form of linkbait, or a wake up call to the seo community - don't forget about site security in your rise to the top of the SERPs.
- Skitzzo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@pacoDG, sorry mate, I clicked the wrong thumb. I meant to digg your comment. Something really needs to be done. I would think that they should be able to filter out the Bury Brigade or someone who simply buries every story someone submits. If not, they need to figure out how to do that and fast.
- Skitzzo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What the hell is that supposed to mean? Do you even know what an SEO does?
- Skitzzo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1That's a good point. To be honest the list was so long I didn't even catch that Digg and TechCrunch were on the list.
- HoosbinPharteen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Nothing says greedy slimeball like claiming you're an SEO.
