- stan205, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Can anyone say "Corrupt"? I can't believe we have to deal with 2 more years of this BS!

- valkyries, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3why cant i just have a 45MB up/down line running to my house for what I'm paying now?
and didn't the big telecom companies promise the government they would give us that 10 years ago? - altjason, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Telecommunications is one of the most confused industries, in any country. In the U.S., we have the largest consumer base, expenditures/person, but we have incredibly high priced, low-service telecom services. But this regulation on/off crap has to stop. If we have regulations, apply them. Otherwise, get rid of them.
- rabiddogma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I think somebody made an nice campaign contribution.
- Cerebral, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Its verizon... Anyone who lives in Tampa, FL (and/or surrounding areas like me... LUTZ) knows that it would be Verizon as they totally destroyed lots of water lines and things all over the city because they were using outdated maps and some maps that were wrong. Where I live it is now offered but I just can't see myself stuck in a contract for a year if the service is not all that is promised or better yet... they change something about it. That would be my luck is that 4 months into the service they decide they have too much traffic using XBOX Live and shut it down or throttle it.
Hey mikoslav how good is the service and the newsgroups and things? When i had DSL from Verizon their newsgroups killed posts and trunkated posts very quickly. Is this the case with FiOS? - CyBrShRk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2genghis1 - Huh? This has to do with a regulated industry and our government giving them free reign. This has nothing to do with Wal-Mart, or whatever company is the current 'bad guy', because they are not a government regulated industry. If you hate WallyWorld so much then push for an FCW - Federal Wal-Mart Commission - to protect you from Wla-Mart's evils. Or better yet...shop somewhere else.

Enter Verizon. And check out all their political contributions in the last few election cycles! - FinishdLawSkool, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Lobbying, it seems to be the way businesses get exactly what they want and how consumers get it in the rear...
- twollamalove, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1We went through this once in America. Why must we totally relive history in the internet age?
- All4not, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Verizon is not a good guy just because they pay good wages or benefits. I'm sure you can use the same skills from Walmart @ Verizon too. That's why wages are low at Walmart, just like fast food chains. Any teenager or senior can do the work.
- nerdtek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually you can get the 15/month with a dry loop. They call it UNE-P. So you can keep your phone carrier and still get the 768k package through verizon. Just make sure when you order you ask for UNE-P otherwise you'll get slammed.
- migel628, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It all just ends up being that the man is trying to keep us down...The man in this is big business, b/c they own the various gov't agencies...
- mikoslav, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This makes me sick. Not only did they not deliver on the fibre-to-the-home fiasco, now they want even more!
- twollamalove, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Amen brother. Unfortunately, I really don't think this all rests on the Republicans. The FCC, and the government in general, are corrupt as can be.
- Skwerl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1All I know, is that if Verizon starts to charge content providers, or prices other networks ability to access the Verizon network, they will be very surprised at what happens.
Once they do eithe rof things, they open the door for "right to refuse service" arguments. If they have the right to jack up prices, other networks can deny Verizon customers access to their cell networks, as well as blocking them internet content, unless that is they pay large fess, which in the end will leave everyone riht back where they are currently. - twollamalove, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I cannot see any reason why anyone would mod mikoslav down. It makes me sick too.
I am less sick with Verizon and more sick with our government. The FCC is more harm than help to the general public anymore. - LoTek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Verizon's contributions do favour Rep. However, 1.6 million to Dem. is no slouch either.
I'm curious whether folks think this encourages healthy political activity, or whether they've just bought everybody. - cawpin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think you are talking in kbps and he is talking kBps. You're at 1600 kbps and he is at 14880 kbps.
- mblitch, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I have fiber in my home (Tampa, Fl) since early December of last year. I average about 1860 KB/s from my usenet feed.
- drinkinggames, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1What other business grade broadband services are there in Verizon's domain? Why should Verizon have to allow competitors to use their network? If there are no other competitors then it is a damn shame; but if there are, why wouldn't it drive prices down? It comes down to wanting the business, not shooing it away. This has the potential to go either way.
- zakharm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1i get 1600 KB/s on my cable connection now. who needs fiber if it is only gonna give me 200 KB/s more??
on the other hand, i'm all for more competition in my area to drop prices and increase speeds.
why should cable be able to offer tv, internet and phone with barely any regulation?? at least verizon will have an equal footing with the cable companies if they don't have to pay these regulatory fees. - drinkinggames, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1in reply to mblitch- fiber to your home from what company?
- cantankerous, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Bah! Verizon in Rochester, NY is filled with staffers who are of the belief they are always above you. I can't stand those arrogant pissants! They pretend to know they are being sued over something and deny all existence of a suit even if you are holding proof in your hands!
I like telecommunications companies just as much as I like banks, lawyers and insurance companies. - NippleNutz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Cuz you know Hitler treated his soldiers well and they werent evil.
And Jesus paid his followers nothing and they were evil. - Genghis1, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3Verizon is not the bad guy. They pay good wages with good benefits. Walmart is the enemy. They pay
poverty level wages and your tax dollars pay for employee benefits.
