- sishgupta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Digg has never been good at posting new stuff. I dont know why this is a new complaint.
It used to be rare when id read something on digg that i had not allready read somewhere else. The reason that the sentence is past tense is because i dont read anywhere else anymore. Digg encompases every techwebsite that i wish to read.
The flaw you point out is a natural flaw of digg. To understand and cope with the flaw, you must know what digg is, and what it is not.
Digg is a link post for every tech website out there. Its not just a mirror for KR's blog and engadget, its a mirror for everything interesting that is tech on any site. The fact that thoes sites get dugg a lot is just a testament to thoes tech sites. They have things that people want to read.
If you dont want to read it on digg, just look four lines down and...hey look at that!...a new link to read.
Also, the flaw in digg is inherent in all things popular. When something becomes popular the mass turns it into what they want. In this case, the mass is digging links that the really techynerdy people have allready read.
The concept of popularity ruining something can be applied to anything. In music, when a band be comes popularized you get 13 year old girls hogging the stage robbing it from the true fans.
Bittorrent is slowly being ruined by popularity. The increase in BT usage has made the MPAA aware of it and as a result torrent distributors and trackers are being shut down. - lucky2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well said bigred. What is great about digg is that it is controlled by the users. There is also more to digg than the front page. I have found plenty of interesting stories that never make it to the front page. I also happen to find this story quite interesting. There are also lots of stories that I have no interest in. Those are the stories I just glance over. Digg is a pretty much a news site and not all news is interesting to everyone.
- LoveIsRegret, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1At the risk of sounding ignorant, how does Revision3 plan on making a profit? They have no ads in the shows, and no ads on the websites. The videos are free to download. I'm missing the part where Kevin and the crew make any money...
- bigred, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What makes the front page on digg is put there by us, the users of digg, so if you don't want to see that kind of stuff on the front page, stop hitting the + button. Sure it won't change anything if everyone that comes here still hits the + on every hard drive deal they see, but if you digg the articles you want to see on the front page, you will eventually see more of them go up there.
- Gregd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Kevin, since the demise of techtv and the subsequent train wreck called "G4", I was hoping that someone, somewhere, would pick up the reigns of what we really want.....quality content without the fluff. Fluffers are for pr0n.
Keep up the good work.....peace. - G-RaZoR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1He said [on Twit] that he is working on getting advertisers to help out with the show. I think this CEO guy has something to do with them getting a studio soon...
- LoveIsRegret, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ah, well then sweet. I'm willing to sit through commercials for real content (G4 continues to drop ads even in program; I can't count the number of times x-play as repeatedly and blatantly plugged gamefly almost in the middle of a review)
- lonseidman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I agree. Kevin, best of luck with your new venture! I have no doubt that it will be successful based on the response to the first episode as well as the TWITcasts.
One thought for the digggers & Kevin as well: What might help extend Systm's reach is having a grassroots network of volunteers distribute systm's episodes to cable access stations. It's free to do (minus the cost of a blank DVD or tape of course) and could help get the word out.
I'm happy to sponsor it in my cable franchise area if Kevin is ok with this form of distribution. - l0g1cal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Kevin:
Please post the LINKS that were on your DEALS page to your blog.
Can anybody HELP me on this one? - manfesto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0At least they (X-Play) admitted it once. It went something like "like plug gamefly when we need food?"
Just tongue-in-cheek enough for me to forgive them. - j0c1f3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0jealous bitches....
- cssdev, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool. Clever name for your holding company. They always say, "The third time is the charm."
- wiredclimber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0honestly, why do we care about this? All digg has become is a mirror of Kevin Rose's blog, Engadget, and Cheap hard drive links.

That pretty much sums it up. You forgot the slashdot rip offs though. - mattb19us, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm almost afraid to admit it, but I agree with G-Razor. Please post some new stuff. What I'm most sick of is people ripping off Engadget. Post something that people haven't seen. We all like Kevin, but it's getting old.
- vuzman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think digg works just fine. What you've known for months might be news to the next guy. The number of diggs a story gets determines the popularity, and if a story gets a lot of diggs it must be because it is important and/or news to many people. That might not be the case for you, but hey, we're all different.
- cquinnd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0X-Play still keeps its integrity by making it obvious that they are helping to promote sponsors of the show. They at least try to make it
relevant to the reviews, instead of trying to make up whole unrelated segments about something that is obviously payola.
it. - DarkFusion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0All they need now is some original content .
- outlaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I hope when kevin rose makes some money off this he pays the people back that made it posible for him to do it.
- G-RaZoR, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Why are you almost afraid to admit it? It's the truth.
- G-RaZoR, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0honestly, why do we care about this? All digg has become is a mirror of Kevin Rose's blog, Engadget, and Cheap hard drive links.
