- peterw99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1could be useful I guess if you don't like product activation. But this wont work if you are changing hardware also, at least it shouldn't.
- eyepodder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0See this before on slashdot and actually tried it about 3 months ago.
!!!!Didn't work!!!! - pickupjojo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Really old, see on this French website :

What's weird is I swapped hard drives from a beige box to a dell pc and I never recieved a re-activation notice. on the other hand, why would you need this? you can activate a copy of xp a few times before it prompts you to call M$. and even if you have to talk to someone on the phone, they've always given me an activation code with no trouble at all.
- Dhalgren, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Useless. Unless you have computers that are clones of each other.
- IHaveIssues, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Me likey.
- simondaking, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This did not work for me either.
- xmlspy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wonder if you can transfer the activation files to another computer with the same configuration

Quote from article, "Now if you do not want all the hassle of reactivation you can save your old activation files and use them in your clean system (as long as you didn’t make any hardware changes)." - jesusphreak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah...I tried this about a month or two back and it didn't work, sadly.
- cawpin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0.....or you could just use the Windows XP activator tool, same as the office activator. Why would you go through the trouble of doing this?
- mrgone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Does activation really do anything besides annoy the hell out of legitimate users of the OS? File this under "download the warez anyways".
- carey934, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is a myth and it does NOT work. I have reformatted and reinstalled on the same machine and copied the files and instructed and it did not work for me.

- smithco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wish I knew about this last week when my filesystem got corrupted and I had to rebuild.
- wicked9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"This is great...does it work with Office? Everytime i format and reinstall i have to call Microsoft."
same here. I usually get some soft spoken korean or chinese lady that can't even say the numbers, its very frustrating - irjeffb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I really don't get the point of this. If you're re-installing on the same hardware, then the re-activation will work anyway; if the hardware is different, neither will work. It would be easier and faster to just re-activate it.
- uthguy9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is great...does it work with Office? Everytime i format and reinstall i have to call Microsoft.
- bryan8m, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I own XP Pro (retail) but have been using the corporate version on all my computers. This would be useful so WGA doesn't become a problem when they start requiring it more often (assuming it doesn't get hacked each time).
