- AtWorkSurfer, on 06/06/2009, -3/+82From the memo:
"Other retailers will also offer the presell, but they will not be able to compete with our Geek Squad services offerings in addition to the presell options."
Yeah those Geek Squad guys are unbeatable. - gfxluvr, on 06/06/2009, -9/+64Not bad Microsoft, for once I will happily pay. Quite the awesome OS you have here.
- ka0tic, on 06/06/2009, -0/+49If Best Buy's selling it for $50, imagine how cheap it's really supposed to cost!
- inactive, on 06/06/2009, -12/+47that overstates your moms value by about $50.
- deviantsteve, on 06/06/2009, -0/+26I don't know I've met a few id like to beat.
- Mistuke, on 06/06/2009, -8/+32Seriously, Get off it.
- RetepNamenots, on 06/06/2009, -8/+30After paying for Vista and using it for only about a month, I said I'd not pay for an upgrade.
But if true, I would actually pay for this. - cowfish234, on 06/06/2009, -1/+21as long as the OS is the same if not BETTER than the RC, i would be happy to fork it over.
until then, i'll probably stick with the RC until my head cracks open in march. - inactive, on 06/06/2009, -9/+26Awesome!
- RetepNamenots, on 06/06/2009, -2/+16Here is this working link (Print view):
http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?com ... - randomchild, on 06/06/2009, -2/+16that link is not working for me at the moment.
try this: http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?com ... - Pillar007, on 06/06/2009, -5/+18No upgrade for me thanks. Clean install if it's a good price.
- djphilos, on 06/06/2009, -5/+16Too lazy to get out of the house and too cheap for $10? How is that whole girlfriend thing working out for you?
- MacParrot, on 06/06/2009, -1/+11Sigh...it's a story about cheaper upgrades to a better Windows OS than Vista. Why did you bring the cheap snides? Just enjoy your Mac (as I do) and appreciate that other people might possibly want something different than you do.
- shininia, on 06/06/2009, -0/+10The free solutions tend to be better. Not to mention, most people with a brain will never have to worry about viruses.
- Myztry, on 06/06/2009, -3/+13Seems a bit dear as an upgrade for Vista users considering they've already paid for 90% of the OS...
- Sethbacca, on 06/06/2009, -2/+10Yeah I'm hooked on 7 myself, will definitely purchase for both my desktop and laptop.
- ivanmarsh, on 06/06/2009, -20/+28$50.00 sounds about right for a Microsoft operating system. It's about time.
- IFEice, on 06/06/2009, -2/+10Your mom was good.
- bustedconsum, on 06/06/2009, -0/+8W7 Comes with a version of OneCare (Free)
That, plus AVG = Free.
Open Office = Free.
Fanboyism is a waste of time. I could come back with a dozen "security suites" for Linux that are charged for, or where support is charged for. - garionw, on 06/06/2009, -0/+7yeah and the new iPhone should be free for me because I already have an existing iPhone 3G and the new one will basically be iPhone 3G with improved features
- inactive, on 06/06/2009, -1/+8Because we've all used 7, and it's great?
- heretrix, on 06/06/2009, -2/+9I'm using the 64 bit RC right now and it's awesome. This is great news.
- Twinnie, on 06/06/2009, -5/+11Blah blah blah, the only really bad thing MS did was restrict vendors from preinstalling Netscape back in the 90s. Since then they haven't really done anything that 99% of other companies wouldn't do if they had the chance. When you buy an MS product a small percentage of it goes to fighting famine and disease anyway.
- Twinnie, on 06/06/2009, -0/+6I've been pirating Windows since 3.1 but when Vista came out I quite liked it and I saw a cheap copy of Ultimate for one third the regular price so I got that. I can tell you that the freedom from constantly going after cracks for that god damn Genuine Advantage thing was worth every penny.
- vector66, on 06/06/2009, -5/+11For a 50, I have to confess that I will consider it if just for the performance gains!
- Triiknastee, on 06/06/2009, -5/+10You're retarded... Yeah, the company that has 90% of the market share will be destroyed if they put out another vista. They put out Windows ME and they are still around, I'm sure they'll be fine.
- wettestwillie, on 06/06/2009, -1/+6You were able to with previous versions of Windows, but when Vista came out they disabled that feature. Although there are some workarounds (http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/winvista_upgr ... 7 will probably be the same.
- inactive, on 06/06/2009, -5/+10No, it's just that Digg users aren't retards. A lot of Microsoft's stuff is pretty good these days, believe it or not. They have good developer tools and resources, and they do seem to be acting much less evil than they used to be, with open support for some open-source projects (Mono, for example) and covert support for others. They certainly do seem to be working towards open standards now, look at MTP, UPnP and the .NET CLI. Windows 7 seems to be even better than Windows XP in terms of speed and stability, and even Internet Explorer is improving (for starters, it's moved to a multi-process architecture ala Google Chrome, and it's becoming more standards-compliant).
So when you decide to bitch on Microsoft, you need a better reason than 'VISTA SUX!'; because you just make us all look retarded. - lacronicus, on 06/06/2009, -0/+5IF you've got your pron folder in a searchable folder (such as the pictures folder) to begin with, you're doing it wrong.
- dr4g0nnn, on 06/06/2009, -2/+6Saying Windows 7 is an OS X rip for making some good design choices is like saying Volvo ripped off Saab when they released their first safety-belt included car. :/
If you're a Mac fan you'll just ignore this as some Microsoft fag having a rant, so just to crush that: Posting from a Mac on Safari. - GiggleStick, on 06/06/2009, -2/+6Can't you usually do a clean install with an Upgrade disk. It's usually an option. It's just about giving you a discount because you've already paid for windows in the past.
- Sethbacca, on 06/06/2009, -0/+4You apparently have never done phone based tech support before. I still have nightmares from 10 years ago :P
- MacParrot, on 06/06/2009, -2/+6If he can't afford $10 (or even $50) I'm guessing not that well. On the bright side it also means he most likely won't breed either. I look at it as a win/win for the minor cost of some pirated software.
- Kazbaeden, on 06/06/2009, -0/+4There are tons of free anti-virus programs.
- MacParrot, on 06/06/2009, -0/+3Riiiight 08STI, we totally believe you since people wouldn't exaggerate or lie on the internetz
- addurobi, on 06/06/2009, -0/+3And I'll bet you anything that you're wrong.
What have we learned today? Read before you post. - UmarSajid, on 06/06/2009, -2/+5I feel that this could drive consumer adoption as many people are fed up with Vista and the price point seems quite fair.
- maddonkey, on 06/06/2009, -0/+3When I thing about it, it might have.
- phoomp, on 06/06/2009, -0/+3You can always do a clean install with an upgrade disk. You just need to provide a previous version disk as proof. I suspect Microsoft will allow users to upgrade from both XP and Vista for 7.
- Kazbaeden, on 06/06/2009, -2/+51) Why do you care?
2) It's Home Basic and it's only available in poor countries
3) There are only 3 retail SKUs, Home Premium, Home Professional, and Ultimate, and Ultimate won't be available everywhere. - darthjure, on 06/06/2009, -0/+3"Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade" I've got Windows Vista but I want to do a clean install. I wonder if a clean install can be done with the upgrade product or if I would need to purchase a different product.
- Myztry, on 06/06/2009, -1/+4Well if you took a monkey and replace 10% (say the head) with that of a human, would it be a human with a monkeys head, or a monkey with a humans body.
DNA isn't modular, or segregated. It's intergral to the whole down to the last cell, so a bad example. - acknotSW, on 06/06/2009, -0/+2People seem to forget that XP was vilified for months and for good reason when it first came out.
- inactive, on 06/06/2009, -0/+2Many of which outperform commercial anti-virus programs. I use AntiVir Personal on Vista without any issues, and it's got one of , if not *the* highest detection rate in the industry. On Win 7, I've been using the free version of Avast (AntiVir works on 7, too. I just wanted to try something different), which has a detection rate that's just slightly under AntiVir's.
- specialK16, on 06/07/2009, -0/+2Sometimes I'm impressed at how some people can talk so much about things they have no clue about, and still sound confident.
"Vista repackaged". I lol'd. - MacParrot, on 06/06/2009, -2/+4I dugg you down for whining about being dugg down.
- addurobi, on 06/06/2009, -0/+2Only Apple would do something like that.
- inactive, on 06/06/2009, -3/+5And wasting time is what Linux users do best. It's a great OS if you don't think you're time isn't worth a couple hundred bucks and want so spend countless hours tinkering just to achieve the sort of basic functionality that both Windows and Mac have right out of the box.
- Appox, on 06/06/2009, -5/+7Pretty good deal
