- VipeNess, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7i just sent them this in my email
No. I do live in the United States, and yes, i ordered my USB along along time ago. Just not right now. From my knowledge, you put that by submitting my personal information to you, i would recieve this as a free usb drive and i did not recieve the device, meaning you collected my information without supplying what you advertised. The title of this email, and the title of this campaign is completely unprofessional and completely directed at the users of your expensive operating system to basically " Shove It " I will be forwarding this information over to my local tv stations of this out-ragious campaign that you ran, and turned around. Don't worry about the site you put up, its been cached by your friends at google.com, digg.com and slashdot.org. Thanks for screwing everyone over on this one. - wbrendel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3What a rip-off. They took my personal information and didn't supply what they advertised.
- theschles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Got the same email. Bastards didn't give me my USB drive either.
- devolved, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well, crap, thanks for nothing, Bill. I've heard of vaporware, but not vapor-hardware. Except for the Phantom. Oh, well, it would have just ended up in the pile anyway.
- alanflores, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i think they should have stopped accepting request and collecting personal info as soon as the stock ran out..
- VipeNess, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They completely screwed everyone over. They got our private information and just turned the axe around and made up some sorry ass story about, oh you dont live in the us, oh, we just ran out. Bitch, i filled that thing out months ago. You shouldn't have advertised it on your site, which you know millions come everyday, and not knowing that you would recieve such orders for it. Your coming down now.
- allisonaxe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i didn't get mine, but I did get an email. i'm a little bit upset, but I half expected to not get anything all along (other than a guilt-trip telling me to get a proper registration key for windows.)
hooray for microsoft! pissing off customers by borking a promotion is a great way to prevent piracy! - dapperdrake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ya, I was pissed, but when I saw the link that said "Invite Microsoft to Gmail" I just had to, and it made me feel a little better.
- phpirate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is what you get when you support microsoft. You get backstabbed and crapped on in the end, just like they always do. Microsoft hasn't changed one bit over the years.
- CapnCornflake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The story was taken down. If you want this to hit the frontpage, then:

Thank you for your interest in the Mystery Solved Windows® licensing promotion. We've received your request for more information to help clarify Microsoft® Windows Desktop Licensing pre-loaded on the USB drive. Unfortunately, this Mystery Solved promotion was available in the U.S. only and while supplies last. Supply is depleted at this time, so we encourage you to please utilize the online alternative today.
Simply download* the Windows Desktop Licensing reference files directly at:
www.microsoft.com/mysterysolved/corp
To help simplify Windows Desktop Licensing, keep these points in mind:
There are two legal ways to acquire a full Windows Desktop license: through your hardware vendor (OEM/System Builder) or Full Packaged Product.
Volume licensing covers Windows Desktop operating system upgrades only.
OEM operating system licenses live and die with each PC–they are not transferable.
Again, thank you for your interest in Mystery Solved and for helping us spread the word about proper Windows licensing.
Sincerely,
Microsoft Corporation - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'll bet that somewhere buried in the screens you clicked through was SOME comment about "while supplies last".
However, MS could send one of these to every household in the USA and it would hardly be a blip in their operating expenses. - Zedix79, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Damnit, I was still waiting for it :(
- alanflores, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i ordered when i saw the article thru Digg. Guess Microsoft has been a victim of the DIGG EFFECT.
- shortie446, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1um what? this is just a link to some page on Microsoft about getting a license. Am i missing something?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If they said it was only in the US then why the hell did they give you the option of selecting what country you wanted it delivered to?
- deznice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm not slagging MSFT b/c i didn't get in the freebie line quick enough.... They promised us something they didn't deliver.... Can I have yours since you've received so manY? *smirk*
- SoulMaster2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm sure all of you will be able to live without a 16MB USB drive, complaining about it here won't do anything
- toxicredm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1All this fuss over a 16MB drive? Here, http://cgi.ebay.com/Portable-USB-Flash-Drive-16MB-USB-Memory-Stick_W0QQitemZ8817891390QQihZ005QQcategoryZ51072QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem you can get one for about GBP 2.00 shipped.
- robertmcmillan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So did anybody actually get one of these drives?
- Bara, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Just got the email as well *sigh*
Bara out - leptonbill, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1WHAT THE *****!!!! So I just Whored out my info so they could F me in the A. I hope that someone got a drive and this wasn't just a scam.
- maloney_633, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I just got the email from Microsoft.
- dss311, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1ditto
- MarkSpacer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hmmm... I've had mine for months now. Works great, though at 64Mb it's a tad small. I've added it to my free USB drive collection, and it gets used probably once or twice a week. I don't know where the writer above got 16Mb from. In my free collection, I have the previously mentioned Microsoft 64Mb device, two 16Mb jobs from Samsung, and the daily workhorse 128Mb from DigiBoard.
Don't slag Microsoft because you didn't get in the freebie line quick enough... - TheZeDD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow, that's harsh. And I fully agree with this user...

Or at least notified a user before submitting that the supplies were out or nearing?
And Vipeness about the "millions" who do pass there site. Again, truthfully, they should have invoked a limited amount of responses from the get go which would have eliminated any possible rotten eggs.
Seriously, you can go to eBay and find how many users simply --visited-- a web page, a lot of pages these days include the tool. I guess I would of incorporated a counter to track form submission and limit the amount. To me its misleading if your title says FREE THIS or FREE THAT regardless of whats in the fine print. Half the time, you cant read it anyways or its written in some obscure language you need a lawyer to truly decipher it. Makes sense, call your lawyer at several hundred bones an hour to decipher the written context for a free Ice-cream cone :D
$ - htown513, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Ditto
- TechCoder, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Boo Hoo...everyone want a free ride. What did you think they had an endless supply.
