Username + Email = Complete - newstart, on 07/13/2008, -16/+48I read Reddit and Digg regularly (ok 8 times a day) but I only comment on Digg. Why? 2 reasons:
1. Too lazy to create a Reddit account
2. Reddit commentors are boring intellectuals who almost never see the funny side of a story. They actually discuss and debate issues there. I mean cmon, when you got stories about the Soviet Union you know which joke you're inviting but they actually discuss the merits and demerits of an issue their :(
One important point to note. 55% of all stories on Digg are first submitted to Reddit. I have seen this happening with my own eyes. If you wanna see 55% of the stories that gonna appear tomorrow on Digg then go to Reddit. I am not making this up, do it then reply if I am wrong. - ironeus, on 08/01/2008, -2/+34I wonder how many people on here are on both sites? It's a good move on Reddit's part people like visuals.
- Trax852, on 07/13/2008, -6/+34
Most of the Digg front page articles come from Reddit.com in the first place - Baronvontito1, on 07/13/2008, -8/+23Thumbnails!? CUTTING EDGE!
- NewsFeed, on 07/12/2008, -4/+18I really like it... I like the compressed view but will probably leave it off in order to get the thumbnails. Thumbnails was one of the things i loved Digg for...
- noogymmij, on 07/13/2008, -5/+18digg is a reddit mirror after 12 hours these days.
Sad to see so many changes and so many influx of digg users there. ugh.
now thumbnails and videos.
its ***** digg all over again. - rentmitchum, on 07/13/2008, -3/+15I've never heard of a website where you'd submit articles with thumbnails and everyone can comment. Where can I find such a miracle place?
- scstraus, on 07/13/2008, -1/+13Funny, I feel exactly the same except the other way around- I read both but only comment on Reddit. Digg's comments have fallen even below youtube standards. Thank god for the new reccomendation engine because the front page was getting to the point where it wasn't even worth looking at.
- MavRevMatt, on 07/13/2008, -1/+13I skim Reddit, but I'm most active on Digg. However, I like to know that Reddit would be a good alternative to Digg should they ever start ***** with what gets to the frontpage and doesn't (well more than they do now).
- MavRevMatt, on 07/13/2008, -1/+12Reddit's already been purchased by CondeNet, Inc. They also own Ars Technica and Wired.
- Roger, on 07/13/2008, -2/+11I've been browsing both digg and reddit for the past few months, and I've been gradually moving more towards reddit.
- inactive, on 07/13/2008, -5/+13With the way things have been going at Digg lately (4chan submissions making it to the front page, raging right wingers hijacking threads, photos of lolcatz going gold) maybe reddit is worth another look.
- scalded, on 07/13/2008, -1/+9I read both.
I like reddit for it's compactness and simplicity. Even with thumbnails and expanded view on, I can see more than 10 links on the page and about as much information as I care to know before clicking the link. With digg, I see 4. The comment pages load slightly faster in reddit and the actual comments usually seem like an actual discussion rather than a race to get their single line comment in the first page.
Also: no shout system. ("DIGG THIS PLZ I WROTE IT MYSELF AND IT WILL SAVE YOUR LIFEEEE") - ntr0p3, on 07/13/2008, -1/+7i guess you're one of the 10 types of people who don't get binary
- ZER0JACK, on 07/13/2008, -3/+9Actually reddit is a digg mirror from the future.
- Roger, on 07/13/2008, -1/+6The speed of reddit more than makes up for any deficiencies in the looks department.
At this point digg is just too bloated and slow (especially the commenting system). - Burento, on 07/12/2008, -2/+6I guess you missed the entire site redesign?? Over a month ago??
- kenkyomausu, on 07/13/2008, -15/+19IS THIS NOT DIGG?! WHY IS THIS ON THE FRONT PAGE?!
- MavRevMatt, on 07/13/2008, -1/+5And opening up the website, among all the other great things they've been doing?
- rocketman42, on 07/13/2008, -1/+4This is somewhat related, but why on earth doesn't Digg show the summary for images and videos when they are on the front page? There is almost exactly the same amount of space as for news articles.
- rednaxela825, on 07/13/2008, -1/+4That sounds eerily similar.
- rentmitchum, on 07/13/2008, -3/+6I've gone to reddit but for some reason when I'm already quite active on digg it makes it less useful.. It's like a professional flute player trying to learn to play an Ocarina. I mean, it's similar enough that you could get what you want accomplished with the one you're already used to.
I need some sort of analogy night-school to improve my analogy skills. - whatthefu, on 07/13/2008, -2/+5I went to reddit and went through the stories for the first time and this was the first thing I saw: http://www.reddit.com/info/6rhy4/comments/ I'm going to guess that the majority of digg users also use reddit here (just going out on a limb).
- Rickler, on 07/13/2008, -1/+4Yeah and that damn google.com site.. so ugly! i know it's totally functional and stuff but common we need snorg tee ads and laggy ajax scripts.
- estvir, on 07/13/2008, -1/+4> 4chan submissions making it to the front page, raging right wingers hijacking threads, photos of lolcatz going gold
That easily describes Reddit too. - inactive, on 07/13/2008, -3/+5personally, i like to troll digg
- Spencerperceval, on 07/13/2008, -0/+2T minus 10 days until I leave Digg for Reddit
- Pinkyabuse, on 07/13/2008, -1/+3Much like icons on a computer desktop and avatars on user based sites, graphics are a great way to quickly identify things.
- meepus, on 07/13/2008, -2/+4You obviously miss all the anti-Jew bigotry.
- BradBrown, on 07/13/2008, -1/+3You Diggers are quite open minded. It's refreshing. I made the mistake of mentioning Digg on Reddit last week, and those bastards lambasted me for it.
- Yage2006, on 07/13/2008, -1/+3About time.
Now they have to do something about the dupes because that's out of hand.
Otherwise id use it allot more. - bioskope, on 07/14/2008, -0/+2The good thing about Reddit or at least the users there is that they dont bitch about whether they made frontpage or not.
- TaniaZL, on 07/13/2008, -1/+3They are trying to turn into Digg, realised they had competition.
Anyways, it will be more appealing too than it was before. - akkibaba, on 07/13/2008, -2/+4Well played, newstart. Well played.
- essjay, on 07/13/2008, -1/+2"Loved" sounds past tense...
- Zalyster, on 07/13/2008, -4/+5I guess Digg has nothing left over Reddit anymore...Well, unless you count shouts, stupid fanbois, MrBabym...Oh.
- MavRevMatt, on 07/14/2008, -0/+1True, but at Reddit it's not as big of a deal because I think more people stick to a few of their reddits they like rather than just viewing the homepage. You could do that on Digg but I don't think anyone does, mostly because people don't categorise submissions accurately.
- Samovar, on 07/13/2008, -0/+1I was about to digg you down before I realized you just proved that there -are- 10 types of people who don't get binary... 11 types total: those who do, those who don't and those who think they do.
- redwallhp, on 07/13/2008, -2/+2Yay! Reddit for the customization win! Personally I'm not a big thumbnail fan though.
- HigherLogic, on 07/13/2008, -3/+4http://digg.com/settings/topics
- juliandunbar11, on 07/13/2008, -5/+5I don't understand the programming jokes on reddit..
- jaymulder, on 07/13/2008, -1/+1As a constant digg user I can't stand reddit. I find it confusing and horrible to look at. It is unintuitive and lame in my opinion.
- sdfguy, on 07/13/2008, -3/+3digg would give google cancer
- sedo1800, on 07/13/2008, -1/+1I like to think of Reddit as what Digg was years ago with Slashdot worthy comments. EDIT: and with less blog spam.
- 00100001, on 07/13/2008, -1/+0*****, double post, see below, digg down
- roosterx, on 07/14/2008, -2/+1I bet I could add 100 image thumbnails!
- zoor, on 07/13/2008, -2/+1true it looks great, but some of those pics are auto picked up from the page, and sometimes those images do not tally with the headlines
