- netneutrality, on 06/24/2009, -0/+33http://www.bacik.org/eircomwep/ I don't support piracy, but when, as an ISP, you still have tens of thousands of your customers using wireless routers that you gave them with keys trivially reverse-engineerable from the publicly visible SSIDs, cutting off connections accused of filesharing is likely to lead to many wrongful disconnections and bad publicity. Just saying.
- AdmiralAcbar, on 06/23/2009, -2/+26It's not going to work. Simple as that.
- davos1, on 06/24/2009, -0/+23The hell with it. ***** THE RIAA!
- philipnorris, on 11/18/2009, -0/+11Eircom has crumbled already and as soon as they begin implementating the three strike action I'm sure a lot of people will jump ship. Doesn't look like the other ISPs are going to be as easy to push over, so Eircom once again you may have dug your own grave. They may have gotten away with this in the early days, but they now need to realise that there are other ISPs around and the consumer now has a choice.
Gone are the days when there was only one service provider. And gone are the undeserved loyalties to the original provider. They've made it clear in recent times that the customer is low on the list of their priorities.
There is no basis in Irish law for them to concede to these demands. And I hope the other ISPs fight this. - Travelsonic, on 06/24/2009, -0/+11Why?
Under what authority? - borez, on 06/24/2009, -0/+11***** the IRMA.
Also: Did you know that if you're Irish and a musician, you don't have to pay tax on your music related earnings. - LtGenPanda, on 06/23/2009, -2/+12Dupe in Digg is when you submit from the same source (website) or submit the exact the same content from a different source.
Any new news will be appearing on several websites and blogs, they are not novels to appear only in one book.
However, I understand your reason for this, as seen here: http://digg.com/search?s=zeropaid.com - flidge, on 06/24/2009, -1/+8do these chumps not get it? the more they act like ***** to the general public, the more the general public wont give a ***** about downloading *****. Im not gonna be bullied by some ***** up money hungry lobby group and the way i could get back at them, download stuff and dont give a *****. the majority of music downloaders are ALSO music buyers you dumb *****. No different to the days of swapping a CD, recording off the radio or making a mix tape. Go after the ***** who make money out of piracy, not bullying small time folk. Heck if you really must follow it up in court, make the damages fit the real work lost value, ie a tenner a share and maybe the general public wont hate your ***** guts so much you money greedy *****.
ok, i feel better now :D - inactive, on 06/24/2009, -0/+6That's right, just sue your credibility away...
- Irishsmurf, on 06/24/2009, -0/+6Im currently with Eircom and ***** like this make me seriously consider switching ISPs. Eircom laid down and let IRMA walk all over it just to avoid fighting for their customers rights. UPC and BT are actually going to fight it.
***** Eircom. - enantiodromia, on 06/24/2009, -0/+6Because GaltShrugged is the most boring troll on Digg
- morepowerr, on 06/24/2009, -0/+5life of a bard.
- lukychmz, on 06/24/2009, -0/+5they will never do this and if it does ever pass there will be ways around it
- BrendanSheehan, on 06/24/2009, -0/+4UPC are cheaper, so that should be your reason.
- Kyzzyxx, on 06/24/2009, -0/+4@RIAA @MPAA,
3 strikes, YOU are out! - mauigreen, on 06/24/2009, -0/+3if no one bought an album for a year, maybe we can eliminate the RIAA the capitalist way...with our $$$. VIVA LA REVOLUCION!
- method7670, on 06/24/2009, -0/+3BURN THE RIAA!
- GuyDanger, on 06/24/2009, -0/+3Down with the RIAA!
- Apocrypha, on 06/24/2009, -0/+2They would just blame downloading for the lack of sales.
- StephenCIreland, on 06/24/2009, -0/+2i went to college with the guy who develloped that, awsome tool, eircom were retarded and still issue the same algorithm on new modems
- EarlOfLade, on 06/24/2009, -1/+3Hopefully Ireland has better legal protection of consumers than what USA does, here it is non-existent! You are a slave of the corporations, a new and different form of slavery from the old physical one, but one nonetheless!
- StephenCIreland, on 06/24/2009, -1/+3UPC already throttle torrents on some nodes, BT however are an awsome ISP , i dont know why anyone uses eircom (or any of its re-brands , smart, imagain, perlico, gaelic telecom, magnet (in rural areas).
- raustin, on 06/24/2009, -1/+2Thanks for the clarification... just going off what other diggers have complained to me about. not a big deal.
- nikki2300dk, on 06/24/2009, -0/+1Thanks, I feel better too. ;-)
- StephenCIreland, on 06/24/2009, -0/+1im already planning an irish exclusive private vpn service, it passes and ill offer anonymous connections with logs deleted every 24 hours
- BOFH139, on 06/24/2009, -0/+1I'm surprised they are not suing Eircom for using song lyrics in there algorithms.

3.2. Append the string "Although your world wonders me, "
"TwoTwoSixFiveFiveOneThreeTwo" -> "TwoTwoSixFiveFiveOneThreeTwoAlthough your world wonders me, "
"TwoNineFiveOneNineOneSixEight" -> "TwoNineFiveOneNineOneSixEightAlthough your world wonders me, "
> Incidently, the appended strings are lyrics taken from the song 'Third Stone from the Sun' by Jimi Hendrix. - jos22, on 06/24/2009, -0/+1IRMA loves lawsuits. they also claimed that cdwow was costing them millions by selling cheap import cds and sued them.
mainly since cdwow sold cds at 13 euro and shops at 22.50.
same again with play.com another site selling cds too cheap.
they seem to count ever cd bought on-ine as a lost sale to them. - djmgpsp, on 06/24/2009, -1/+2Dude, I use that so much!
- NJank, on 06/24/2009, -0/+1kill it with fire!
- Irishsmurf, on 06/24/2009, -0/+1That is true, but I used to have Chorus TV and their Customer Support was terrible. Ended up leaving them because it was that bad.
- philipnorris, on 11/18/2009, -0/+1Eircom have said that they haven't worked out the details of how they are going to approach this yet. Only that they will soon enough.
Will have to wait and see... - jos22, on 06/24/2009, -0/+1this is true but UPC is only available in cable area. there lots of areas where UPC is currently unavailable.
- quarryman, on 06/24/2009, -0/+1The reason they are "fighting it" is because it makes economic sense to do so, not some sort of moral crusade on behalf of the consumer. Its all about the profit.
- gin613, on 06/24/2009, -0/+1In case anyone is interested, I'm an Eircom customer and I've downloaded loads of film/album torrents in the last few months. I've never gotten any kind of warning from Eircom and neither has anyone I know.
- Apocrypha, on 06/24/2009, -1/+2Don't switch, bitch instead. No ISP should be doing this at the behest of ANY private organization. Let them know you will drop them hard and fast if they do anything like this.
- GLeNs, on 06/24/2009, -1/+2lol stupid riaa, and irma, dont have a ***** clue.
switching isp is easy. - Apocrypha, on 06/24/2009, -1/+1At just what point do the transparent antics of dumbass organizations like this end up getting their asses kicked for their foolishness?
- captaintrips121, on 06/24/2009, -2/+2How big is big business, when not only has it taken over the laws of the people, but also other big business? We sat idle while capitalism dwindled our rights away as a people, now they are even trying to force their will on other business too. I call shenanigans.
- Dwatson783, on 06/24/2009, -1/+0I'd love to see the amount earned from performing this type of BS from Recording Industries compared to the actual cost as well as what they project they're saving by preventing illegal downloads. Seriously, these people don't get it, are too lead on by their lawyers and really need to look at the studies. People that download illegally BUY MORE MUSIC than people that don't download at all. Yes, these are the customers that make you the most. If you want to do well for yourself, cater to them & look to make music more portable & easier to get. If you do that, you'll cut down on pirating. You don't stop pirating by being dbags suing everyone and making it impossible to listen to music due to DRMs. Music Industry Fail.
- HeavyWave, on 06/24/2009, -4/+3Owned :D
- morepowerr, on 06/24/2009, -3/+1If they keep there bull ***** up there will not be any record labels left. People only put up with BS for so long and then they start burning ***** to the ground. And the people on this planet are just over the 2/3 mark of how much more Big business, Big bank and Big Government. We will put up with.
- PrestoVivace, on 06/23/2009, -9/+4Attention RIAA, MPAA, et al, Ur doing it wrong!
http://technoflak.blogspot.com/2009/04/conflating- ... - raustin, on 06/23/2009, -17/+5duped: http://digg.com/tech_news/Record_Labels_Target_Mor ...
and that's a terrible idea, galt. - inactive, on 06/23/2009, -37/+1Sue every single ISP that doesn't comply.
