- acu8509, on 10/10/2007, -5/+117but...but...but....the government told me that I'm supporting terrorism if i download music off the Internet! does that mean the Swedish are terrorists? but i thought they were neutral! OH GOD MY WHOLE PERCEPTION OF REALITY IS THROWN INTO QUESTION!
- Punk27, on 10/10/2007, -8/+116What the RIAA labels doesn't understand, is that if they give away some or all of a band's music online, they'd still be making a ***** on Merchandise and Concerts. As soon as record labels understand that the internet, and free music isn't evil, we'll start seeing support for free tracks/albums.
- jonesin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+69OK then
http://thepiratebay.org/tor/3751261/Labrador_Summer_Sampler_2007_-_incl_track_names - VocalFX, on 10/10/2007, -0/+41The RIAA are the real terrorist.
- Azimuth1, on 10/10/2007, -1/+42Sweden is pretty smart when it comes to this whole thing.
- nerd05, on 10/10/2007, -0/+37The problem is that the record labels aren't the ones making money from merchandising and concerts. The records labels make their profits by taking that huge cut of music sales.
- tnatharik, on 10/10/2007, -5/+40Bow to piratebay, suckers!
- cfd339, on 10/10/2007, -1/+33Would that be a metric or an imperial *****? I mean, these days, ***** Sterling are worth much more than *****.
- airwalkery2k, on 10/10/2007, -0/+29What's this? I was lead to believe that P2P had no valid or legal purposes.
- 0xbadfood, on 10/10/2007, -4/+27I don't really see how them losing that is a problem. Does anybody actually care about the record labels? At all?
- Ajajadude, on 10/10/2007, -0/+21That'll require a big change in the upper management and the firing of a lot of lawyers.
And this is an independent label from Sweden in this article, they tend to be a lot less neurotic about piracy concerns than the U.S. RIAA. - mbthompson, on 10/10/2007, -0/+19Dear Friend,
My name is Omtombo Mwegebe. My late uncle left me a large inheritance of Nigerian ***** that I am willing to share with you if you can assist me... - Firehed, on 10/10/2007, -1/+20And due to incredibly poor math skills, now worth less than a Canadian ***** as well.
- karel747, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13It's a trap!!!
- r0b1, on 10/10/2007, -7/+18Unfortunately, the music is *****.
- HalFTW, on 10/10/2007, -3/+14I think you are thinking of Switzerland, but meh, whatever.
- Firehed, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Indie isn't a genre any more than Sony/BMG Music is.
- emt41, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11indie is not a genre
- mbthompson, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11So, just by my calculations, 1 ***** is worth 2,240 buttloads?
- jdblueaudis4, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11What you have to realize is that the record labels do not make any money off Merch and Concerts (well not none but they make very little, similar to the bands cut on CD sales). This is where the band makes there money and why most bands don't care about music piracy. What is going to happen is we are going to see the end of the traditional music label and more independent labels run by existing bands poping up where the band/label can make deals to share the profit evenly making the industry survivable by giving away the music. Having been involved in the music industry for a long time (in various capacities) this is the ONLY way that the music industry can survive.
- richmessenger, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9It's a Swedish indie label. Indie labels give their music away for free all the time, especially samplers. Whooo
- RileyKA, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Seeing as we are talkin about the RIAA in which the last "A" stands for America, so believe that would be a "Standard" or "Imperial" *****. Worth less than both Sterling and Euro *****.
- jbhannah, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11Dugg for creative wordage.
- Endemoniada, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Actually, Sweden has been neutral through most wars we weren't a part of ourselves.
- alexkorova, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7"What's the difference between stealing a mp3 file and stealing the mp3 player?"
The big difference is that I don't actually steal the mp3 file, I make copies of the mp3 file, easily and extremly cheap, by myself. No one "looses" the mp3 file, while If I steal an mp3 player, someone actually looses a mp3 player. - kazamx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Was it to say thanks for watching our show? here is a free T-Shirt?
- Devrdander, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9The musicians do since there isn't a good established alternative to the record industry...
- andy17null, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I don't trust you enough to not listen to it.
- fkr3, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6What the article fails to mention is this is a little indie label that has to do everything they can for publicity. Big record labels can afford adequate servers and content distribution networks.
- hotdigg, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6I believe in the future, P2P and filesharing will only get bigger as technology increases. Efforts to control the free flow of information on the net will be utterly crushed by these advances. The only regulating factor will be human nature itself. What will we all collectively decide to do with this new found power? I belive human nature wants information to be free. You cant control the internet, and you cant control human nature. Old busniess models will gradually fade away and give rise to new ones. All the music companies are very slowly realizing this, and they are making little consessions little by little. The biggest change recently was the decision of EMI to sell unprotected MP3s in Itunes. Many artists have put some of their work directly into P2P networks. Prince just have away his latest album to 3 million newspaper subscribers in England, and plans to give away free CDs at his concerts later this year. These kinds of trends will continue, and 10 years from now things will be even shockingly different then they are today.
- maffiou, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I agree with some of your points, but the fact is, the medium based buisness model is dead... This is a backward way to sell music and can't keep up with tecnhology... The longer it takes to the industry to realize this, the longer they'll loose out... Everytime a medium became obsolete, they brought in a new one to take over... Vinyl to tape, tape to CD, CD to superCD, DVD, DVD, HD-DVD etc... Today, the trend is to get rid of the medium all together...
The fact is the industry is not keen to evolve, because new technologies are cutting out the middle men, and they're the one making the massive amount of money...
Today an artist can produce/mix/distribute almost on his own and the investement are almost peanuts compared to what they used to be... A medium range PC with a large HD and a fancy music card and you're rolling... Promotion may be where the music industry is still needed...
It seems obvious that the industry has to adapt to an established situation, wether they do it by themselves or they forced out of buisness and new companies will pop up and take over with a new system, is only a matter of how painfull they want to make it for themselves !! Denial can't save them !
- Beautyon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Said the buggy whip salesman to Mr. Mercedes.
- Ajajadude, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Imagine that, corporations lying to us! Inconceivable!
- marcene, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4RIAA is actually holding onto the past and needs to find a new business model for which they do not have to prosecute their customers.
- heavygravity, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4while (U == RIAA) {kissmynuts();}
- Firehed, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I'd rather pay a small piracy tax and be effectively granted a universal digital media license. Even if you're not a pirate before the tax, you could copyright infringe away to your heart's content without so much as a guilty conscience.
Of course, if the piracy tax is just thinly veiled corporatism and doesn't imply such permission, then ***** that. - KielKilla, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4and what? did they tell you to stop? They don't care about small fries like you or me. They want the websites and uploaders gone.
- aquadoctorbob, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Heh, it's funny because "genre" literally means "kind."
- zweben, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I care about them enough to hope that they cease to exist.
In their current form at least. - TheGuy20, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4How do you half expect something?
- ArthurSucks, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3That's because it's not legal to download the Office off of Bittorrent. THIS however is.
- counterstriker, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Holy ***** ***** this torrent is blazing fast I am averaging around 400kb/s. I would like to thank all of those uploaders in Europe including hungary, spain, germany, ect who always seem to have a better connection than I do for up loading at hundreds of kb/s
- MarkOfTheDead, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3you can has cheezburger.
- Jugalator, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5It's a Swedish record label, and a torrent site, it's not the entire Sweden, so be careful when generalizing.
I don't say this to be an ass, but because we unfortunately have stupidies in Sweden too...
You can start here: http://www.copyswede.se/default.asp?ML=10622
Especially the third paragraph there about how intelligently the fees are collected is quite puke-inducing. :-p The short story is -- if you purchase discs or even hard drives in Sweden, it's assumed these will be used for piracy so there need to be a "compensation fee" attached. Even if it's to burn photos from a vacation, wedding, or something. Hmm, when I think of it, doesn't Canada have something similar?
Nevermind that Copyswede is a privately owned organization, as it the "Anti piracy bureau". Waay too much powers to adjust society and culture IMHO. - HalFTW, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3What kind of genre(s) is it?
- evilregis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yes! Jamendo is awesome. I've been a member for awhile and have found a lot of good music and a few really great artists. I love it.
You can also get free awesome music from amiestreet.com if you're fast enough. There are alternatives! - counterstriker, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Oh really? I got one from NBC for uploading the movie smokin aces!
- bagboyrebel, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4It takes a lot more work, but a band can go independent and still remain a pretty good following.
- rlorenzo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2so.... is the music any good?
- Charron, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2If you're worried about the whole iTunes Plus and getting tracked and everything, don't. iTunes also functions as a CD burner and ripper. That's why that message is there.
