- Mononuclear, on 12/18/2007, -0/+32"She is permanently barred from copyright infringement" What does that even mean? She isn't allowed to infringe anymore?
- heynow21, on 12/18/2007, -3/+31Hurricane Rita killed a few dozen peopleover 3 states, to call someone a survivor is a bit of a stretch. Our local ice storm last week killed about 10 and I don't consider myself a "survivor".
-George Costanza - Abominous, on 12/18/2007, -1/+20Thanks to the RIAA, I will never pay for music again.
- Dibou, on 12/18/2007, -1/+19Grandma got ran over by the RIAA....
- Locke23, on 12/18/2007, -3/+21How much longer must we wait for the RIAA to shut down? It's like the war on drugs.
It failed. Goodbye. - Hervard, on 12/18/2007, -0/+17Must mean she can pirate all she wants now!
- motters, on 12/18/2007, -1/+16Best advice is not to buy any products of the RIAA. These people are completely unethical.
- Trick07, on 12/18/2007, -0/+8Great... the RIAA spends a ton of money and even though the law might say they "have won" they sure a hell did not.
- loganhuddleston, on 12/18/2007, -2/+10then she laughs and gets real crunk.
- greekgoat91, on 12/18/2007, -5/+13my money's on the RIAA, and ironically they won't be getting ***** from me.
people, the least you can do is boycott their products and buy only non-RIAA cds
http://www.riaaradar.com/ - sphetr2, on 12/18/2007, -0/+8lesson: dont use kazaa
- clark24, on 12/18/2007, -0/+8middle school? lol
- technoredneck, on 12/18/2007, -1/+8That's a little different than supporting them directly by buying their CDs.
- IllBeBack, on 12/18/2007, -0/+5Man, the RIAA is made up of a bunch of dicks.
- inactive, on 12/18/2007, -1/+5The RIAA does not take pity on anyone, even on grandmas, if it all means having a few dollars less on their fat wallets. Therefore, the RIAA has no soul.
- thefinger, on 12/18/2007, -0/+4Grandma??? 50cent??? .... And you think you know a person.
- inactive, on 12/18/2007, -0/+3How about no.
- readerofbooks, on 12/18/2007, -1/+4the RIAA are just trying to keep their fat pig faces stuffed with money, they have already sued thousands of people and the artists have seen jack ***** in return. even when you do buy a cd released by them you think the money goes to the artists? WRONG they get a tiny percentage while the vast majority is gobbled up to cover "production costs" the RIAA could not care less about the artists they simply wish to continue controlling all means of distribution of their product they can, god forbid someone break their stranglehold on the industry.
and with that eloquent lecture done
***** THE RIAA
AND ***** THE ***** FAT PIGS WHO RUN THE RIAA
LONG LIVE THE INTERWEBS!!! - IllBeBack, on 12/18/2007, -0/+3Well said.
/sarcasm - inactive, on 12/18/2007, -0/+3"Several dozen," then.
- mrmatchgame, on 12/18/2007, -2/+5She should of stayed in court fighting with the RIAA until she should of died, they it would look like the RIAA killed her and maybe they'll stop suing people.
- sERIALeATER, on 12/18/2007, -1/+4Burried. ***** off kid.
- silentphoenix, on 12/18/2007, -0/+2having the RIAA accuse a grandma sure makes a good image of them, not that it was good in the first place
- ihateallysonli, on 12/18/2007, -0/+2that's gotta be the coolest grandma ever.
- jrlambs, on 12/18/2007, -3/+5Ok, so I'm not defending the RIAA, suing a bunch of its customers... probably not the best Idea... but what difference does it make to this story that the person is a grandmother.... or if this person was once in bad storm. The title is set out only to invoke pity on the person being sued. Using the term "Grandmother" tries to make you think of the person as an old woman who isn't capable of pirating music. A grandmother could very easily be 40 years as old and have pirated thousands of albums as a 20 year old. Why are people trying to add extra pity to a story that everyone has already formed an opinion on already.... anyway... just annoys me. If the RIAA is suing people it's no more despicable to sue a 20 year old than it is to sue a grandma if they are indeed pirating stuff.
- adeptusliberus, on 12/18/2007, -0/+2and this is where the RIAA is shooting itself in the foot. A lot of people are now pirating music not just because of exorbitant prices, but its out of spite now, and rightfully so. You want to sue a working class family for thousands of dollars because their kid downloaded an mp3? The public responds by pirating even more material. From now on, I'll be checking to see whether or not a CD is produced by a member of the RIAA via riaaradar.com (thanks greekgoat91 for posting this site).
- fkr3, on 12/18/2007, -1/+3Right .... because this case and the dozen like it emphasise how much their strategy has faiiled - they've only successfully targetted 10's of thousands of people who've opted to settle.
- thefinger, on 12/18/2007, -0/+2Welcome to the Digg Elevator. You have just pressed the down button...

- heynow21, on 12/18/2007, -0/+17 direct deaths, 100+ "indirect", which are defined as:
"Indirect deaths indicate those caused by hurricane-related accidents (including car accidents, crimes, fires or other incidents), cleanup and evacuation incidents and health issues (such as poisoning, illnesses, lack of emergency aid)." - adeptusliberus, on 12/18/2007, -0/+1they win the battle, but they lose the war.
- Krpano, on 12/18/2007, -0/+1***** that....just bootleg everything you can.....
- sERIALeATER, on 12/18/2007, -0/+1Ehhh?
- danielson0014, on 12/18/2007, -0/+1RIAA apparently doesn't know how to hire a PR adviser because they would they would have told them it was a stupid idea. And why is it that they feel the need to charge like $4,000 or more a song!? I think there would be at least a few more sympathizers if they were reasonable about it. They don't understand the majority of people who do this stuff. Trying to punish one person for the actions of many doesn't make an example out of her, it makes her a martyr for the cause!
- Enisity, on 06/07/2008, -0/+1fuk u! douche bag yah how you like that
- Tenoq, on 12/18/2007, -1/+2The whole idea is supporting the alternative 'non-RIAA' labels. And RIAA != movies, numb-nuts. :P

i used to go there - Dylson, on 12/18/2007, -1/+1Why did he capitalize men?
- IllBeBack, on 12/18/2007, -2/+2And why did he pussy out and spell ***** "fuk"? Perhaps there is some dain bramage there.
- adeptusliberus, on 12/18/2007, -1/+1It's not just the RIAA- its the lawyers they hire. Right now, intellectual property law is an extremely high paying area of practice, so it's full of money grubbing serpents, fresh out of law school who have a cocaine habit to support. I'm still thinking about law school myself, I just hope to God people don't lump me in with these *****.
- adeptusliberus, on 12/18/2007, -1/+1"they are protecting the copyrights of artists."
...by suing someone's grandma. That's like fighting terrorism by setting kittens on fire. - adeptusliberus, on 12/18/2007, -2/+1"Why are people trying to add extra pity to a story that everyone has already formed an opinion on already"
Because it's most likely that it was her grandkids who were downloading the songs, not her. Do you honestly think someone's grandma is going to download songs by 50 cent and Usher? - PopcornDave, on 12/18/2007, -2/+1No it seems that the best advice is to only do filesharing, on Kazaa at least, with someone else's name so that they get blamed not you.
- inactive, on 12/18/2007, -4/+1Wow so after all her years on earth the best thing they could credit her as doing was "surviving" a bit of wind? She must be so proud of herself.
- ibeetle, on 12/18/2007, -9/+6You ever go to the movies? You ever buy a DVD? Who do you think is the association that represents the artist that do the soundtracks to those movies and television shows?
Maybe, just maybe the artist that record on the Warner Bros. label for a song that appears on Smallville... maybe... just maybe they are members of the RIAA. Just a wild guess.
You better start boycotting... everything... Television, Radio, hell... even the Mall... they play that damn music everywhere. - sphetr2, on 12/18/2007, -6/+3Like you would have in the first place...
- IllBeBack, on 12/18/2007, -8/+2Hurricane Rita had a reported 120 deaths. Way more than 10. Way more than "a few dozen.".
