- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+91I pray for the day some state or federal DA gets the balls enough to hit the RIAA and MPAA with RICO charges. This is full blown racketeering and needs to be treated as such.
- Elektriq, on 10/12/2007, -1/+87Seriously, who the ***** are these retards??

- wilf_brim, on 10/12/2007, -1/+62How can you sue a dead guy? I suppose that they can attempt to get a claim on the estate, but I'd bet this guy doesn't have a ton of money. I'd love to see this one in probate somewhere. Who the hell does the PR for these people? Maybe the Saddam's former information minister has a new job with the RIAA.

Email: matthew@srkllp.com - ViRaZ, on 10/12/2007, -1/+54That's how I want to go, dead and owing people money.
- kd1s, on 10/12/2007, -0/+53You can file suit against his remaining estate. If the guy owned property, had an insurance policy, what have you, the RIAA is now claiming first right to any proceeds from payouts.
They're worse than vampires. - bairy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+50You can bet your ass they'll use that in court too.
"We're not the bad guys here. I mean, we gave them 60 days to dread... I mean grieve. What more do you want from us??" - rocke86, on 10/12/2007, -1/+50Good link explaining exactly how the RIAA sues, it is really sicking.
http://digitalmusic.weblogsinc.com/2006/08/07/the-riaa-vs-john-doe-a-laypersons-guide-to-filesharing-lawsui/ - dagonweb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+45I propose a consumer strike. UNLESS consumers in the US don't give a ***** about what is happening. Stop buying the filth.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+44Didn't you hear, the RIAA actually wants 2nd hand and used CD stores to be closed down because they can't take their cut.
This was on digg about a month ago I think, possibly a bit longer. - MarkCiccone, on 10/12/2007, -3/+45Haven't we all ready done that by downloading instead?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -13/+53So you're upset that someone else's dupe, and not your dupe made it to the front page?
- SniperGX1, on 10/12/2007, -4/+43***** the RIAA with red hot fireplace pokers
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+40I prefer blunt, stuttering chainsaws.
- Reliant, on 10/12/2007, -2/+37How can you sue a dead guy?
They aren't sueing the dead guy, they are after the surviving relatives for what the dead guy did. RIAA needs to be shut down, they are taking their authourity too far. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+34Seems like the RIAA is trying to follow in AOLs foot steps.
- bennyboy371, on 10/12/2007, -1/+35November 5th IS coming up. Yeah, thats right, I went there.
- wookiekiller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+33That's really low.
- Germanopinion, on 10/12/2007, -3/+36"there are no filesharers in the region! In fact as we speak swedish pirates commit suicide in international waters just outside the 12 mile range from the US eastcoast"

You're wrong the RIAA(Retarded Idiotic ***** of Assland) needed to die a millennium ago. - techmonkey4u, on 10/12/2007, -0/+28@all musicians everywhere:
Please stop using the RIAA.
Thank you. - dalooo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26I don't see why they can't just drop the case, I doubt the person who just died would have a lot of money anyways. They're a large organization with enough money that doesn't need to cause the family any more grief and hardship then they're currently going through. I think what they're doing is complete *****. The people in the RIAA and MPAA are *****.
- RatTrap, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27DOWN with the RIAA and MPAA!!
- techisFun, on 10/12/2007, -4/+29RIAA ... The new world order...
We are *****! - CiXeL, on 10/12/2007, -8/+33I'm looking forward to the day when they stumble across someone who has nothing left to loose and simply shoots their lawyers in the ***** head on the steps of the courthouse.
- 1911wolf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24RIAA = the litigious arm of al-Qaeda. Legalised terror.
There needs to be some sort of mass class action suit against the RIAA to represent everyone they've terrorised. I would have no problems donating my money towards such an action. - rocke86, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23You can donate at the Free Software Foundation website to defend against the RIAA lawsuits.
https://www.fsf.org/associate/support_freedom/dbd - netmancer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21I second this. One way to do this is to buy your music from used cd stores. It's perfectly legal and cheaper. Another way is to stop worrying about the "Top 20" or whatever bands and find good independent bands. Most either let you download thier songs for promotion or buy the CD directly from them (the artist), either off thier website or at thier shows. That money goes to support the artist and not the RIAA.
- coheedcollapse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20I think the saddest thing about this is that 10 years ago I would have been surprised with this sort of behavior, but I've grown so accustomed to the RIAA's legal escapades, it didn't phase me at all.
The RIAA really needs to start losing sometime soon. I don't know how anyone can not see that the whole group is evil as hell. - SelfAbortion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20The guy died living a hard life of the crime that is compressed audio.
- stmiller, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20Their server is filtering incoming pings. Looks like they are already prepared for attacks. :(
- nazadus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21People with money.
Money talks.
They also have fear on their side. When you get papers from the mail from this Big Ass Company (TM), you tend to ***** your pants and don't know what to do. Getting out as fast as possible with as little problems as well is what you tend to do.
Doesn't matter your situation, when fear rules you -- you do stupid *****.
They get money from this stupid *****.
Batman had fear on his side.. and he as a comic bad ass. But the funny thing is, a lot of his tactics would probably work in the real world. Fear is a _very_ powerful thing. - bennyboy371, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17People DO boycott, but its not widespread enough to eradicate them, and the amount of sales they've lost they attribute it to file-sharing and threaten more people.
- headzoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17"I propose a consumer strike. UNLESS consumers in the US don't give a ***** about what is happening. Stop buying the filth."
I see the BIGGEST challenge to your plan, is the vast majority of consumers have no clue what's going on with the RIAA. I see an RIAA related story on Digg everyday. I watch the news every morning, and I've never heard a single peep about the RIAA. Nothing. Nadda.
So the sad fact is, just like Internet Neutrality, the real "voting public" are completely ignorant of these issues. You can't get any kind of real boycott together without educating the real public first. Big challenge. - Germanopinion, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20@software2
no, of course not.
I'm new to this posting thingy and i just meant it as a notice that we were not the first posters. No bad intentions in my comment here!
After all,
it's the message that counts. I don't care if "my" post gets front page or any other. As long as the information gets Front page.
And hopefully the mainstream media will someday pick up what those RIAA thugs are doing against working class americans. - ka0tic, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18Seriously, the RIAA needs to stop it because they're hurting themselves and everyone else they're affecting with their lawsuits (themselves being their losses due to countersuing).
- mike503, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14what i don't understand is why the government doesn't step in. obviously this is unpopular and in some cases ludicrous.
i think this shows a clear bias from the government's side of things. i think the RIAA has got away with more insanity than big tobacco has... this just blows my mind someone hasn't stepped in yet. - maltaethiron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14I think the RIAA needs to step back and ask themselves: how big of bastards are we?
- FinishdLawSkool, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Submit the story to Drudge Report to increase the chances that the sheep will read about it.
- nogoodreason, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Before purchasing any form of music (be it digital or CD), type in the band on RIAA Radar to get a clear idea of which albums - often all - are controlled by the RIAA. This way you know which purchases profit the artist, and which line the wallets of a corporation who may one day use that cash to sue you.
Buy the independently produced ones and support the artists; but make a note of the RIAA controlled albums and buy them second-hand on eBay. If you enjoy them, send the band £5 in the post ~ they'll make more money than an album sale and no blood money is involved.

(It's not my site, so don't accuse me of shameless plugging) - igraham09, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13words cannot express how much i hate the RIAA
- Darth_tater, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13god... i want to help theese poor people jsut because they are being picked on by the worlds largest *****.
is ther some place we can atleast write to to acknowledge that we support theese defendants? - capran, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Perhaps if people would just spread the word and stop buying products from the "artists"/performers these organizations represent (**AA, etc.), they'd just implode and be forgotten.
There's lots of music available that is not protected by **AA, it's currently best known as "podsafe" music. Support those creative people instead!!
And make sure to tell everyone you know when you find something good, to give them an alternative to buying that Britney Spears or 50 Cent piece of crap CD they were about to fork over $20 for. -
