- supermanred, on 01/30/2008, -3/+107Congratulations, RIAA and every middle-man corporation involved in the RIAA!
You have successfully made it so that the modern-day enjoyer of music (aka your customers) hate you to the point that we don't really care if you fade into oblivion. As far as I am concerned, you are an outdated bunch who do nothing more than leech of artists. Personally, if any artist I currently listen to were to move their music sales to their own seperate personal sites, or to iTunes I would purchase their music there instead. Oh, and I'd probably pay a buck or two more than I do now.
So let's see. Instead of giving my favorite artist's a dollar and 19 dollars to you for a cd sale, I would rather give 22 dollars directly to my favorite artist.
Any company or group of companies who would so viciously reject the reality of modern day life (aka digital downloads) and go as far as to SUE their customers can collectively suck my balls.
In closing, I wouldn't order that gold plated swimming pool just yet or the sharks with lasers on their heads. You just never know when ALL your artists will abandon you as I am sure your customers are soon to do.
***** you, RIAA.
***** you. - stackered, on 01/30/2008, -3/+79***** the RIAA!
- TimHasAnAfro, on 01/30/2008, -0/+31In this case .4% is one person if you read the article. I would like to meet him though. I hope he pwns them.
- totorototoro, on 01/30/2008, -0/+30"The University of Tennessee-Knoxville also cooperates with the RIAA,"
well, there ya go. - technogenius, on 01/30/2008, -10/+39In other words: "I'm from Texas and cannot accept anything that deviates from my sense of reality"
- supermanred, on 01/30/2008, -5/+31Get a life.
- johnstar, on 01/30/2008, -2/+25Extortion is a criminal offense, which occurs when a person either obtains money, property or services from another through coercion or intimidation or threatens one with physical harm unless they are paid money or property. ...
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extortion - Wangwaffle, on 01/30/2008, -1/+24I happen to attend UT, and after reading this article, I think I'll go download another album
- CheeseburgerBro, on 01/30/2008, -3/+24Nuh-UH! It means "University of TORONTO," dumb-ass.
- toucci, on 01/30/2008, -2/+22Dugg up for great justice and use of objective case.
- trammell, on 01/30/2008, -0/+20"We think it's very important that the students involved has as much information as possible"
We are the University of Tennessee: where failing English is unpossible. - Malevolant, on 01/30/2008, -0/+19The RIAA has discovered a new revenue source and will exploit the hell out of it.
Most college students don't have the resources to put up any sort of fight and have never had to deal with any kind of legal fight. I see it as the RIAA just attacking the easiest target possible. Students have no choice but to submit. They have no other options. There should be some kind of legal defense fund setup for these fights and a class action suit based on the punishment going well beyond what's reasonable, and not based on what you're downloading, because we can't win that fight.
The most amazing part of all of this is that the RIAA sues the ***** out of their customers yet the rest of the customers continue to buy their products. The customers finance the RIAA's attacks against them. Ironic huh? - toucci, on 01/30/2008, -4/+23His was actually first. You need to refresh both pages at the same time.
If you're going to correct people... - naganooch, on 01/30/2008, -4/+21The University of Tennessee is often referred to as UT, but officially goes by UTK. It's certainly not a no-name school though. It's our state university!
- volitor8555, on 01/30/2008, -6/+22You know it was a University before Texas was even a state right?
- inactive, on 01/30/2008, -0/+16I have yet to see a hacker group completely destroy RIAA.....would be nice!
Plus, since there haven't been good music, the music sale has dropped dramatically so where else can RIAA turn to in order to make some doe....its simple...blame somemone, the vulnerable. - MyBacchanalia, on 01/30/2008, -0/+16Goddammit, when will the RIAA just realize their action are futile and that the record industry needs to be seriously reformed? This isn't the 90s.
- ManufactrsDfect, on 01/30/2008, -4/+20you're a dumbass
- ashwinashwin, on 01/30/2008, -0/+15go piracy!
- wellstd1, on 01/30/2008, -2/+17As well all know it's hard enough affording just necessities in college, much less a $3k settlement or more. Shame on the RIAA and shame on the University of Tennessee for not standing up for their students.
- mrdoyle, on 01/30/2008, -5/+19yes, if you have a basic grasp of the language, or at least access to a dictionary.
- drmangrum, on 01/30/2008, -0/+13Can't get blood from a stone. Just claim bankruptcy. not like college students have a credit rating anyway.
- wellstd1, on 01/30/2008, -4/+16Well around here it's known as UT (or UTK), and it is FAR from a no name school. Enjoy your ignorance, for they say it is bliss.
- andycr512, on 01/30/2008, -1/+13Not necessarily, but you're supposed to have access to a search engine.
- Zera, on 01/30/2008, -6/+17Yet another reason to not live in the dorms...
- TheUngod, on 01/30/2008, -4/+14This is great...TX and TN arguing about who has better schools. Just wow.
- slasc, on 01/30/2008, -1/+11Amen
- Assezdefromage, on 01/30/2008, -1/+11You can "hope" for pwnage even if they're "probably going to lose".
- StaticThunder, on 01/30/2008, -3/+13So why don't you go and download some music, get subpoenaed, and fight it if it matters so much to you. You don't have to pay their legal bills.
These kids broke the law, have no case, and are getting out of it the cheapest way possible, same thing you would do. - xtmno3, on 01/30/2008, -0/+9Unreal Tournament
- CobaltBlue, on 01/30/2008, -0/+9I can't believe so many college students are still using P2P software with this hanging over their heads. Especially with the decentralized, distributed Internet discussion system that must not be named available that has as much if not more music on it than any P2P network and has much more reliable downloads.
- jgzman, on 01/30/2008, -6/+15Actually, I've been to Texas. Those stereotypes are pretty well based in reality.
- krautkamel, on 01/30/2008, -1/+9***** the RIAA. Let me see here, 1 dollar to artist. 14 dollars for the RIAA for...
oh yeah, gotta put a 1000% markup on the cd. - llbbl, on 01/30/2008, -1/+9Dear University of Tennessee-Knoxville Students, Please think about a different choice for higher education next year.
- supermanred, on 01/30/2008, -0/+8Use the google. Type "define capitulation"
or if you are a mac user open up the search bar and type "capitulation" - ronaldinho, on 01/30/2008, -0/+8No, it only makes me want to punch the RIAA
- jetblackz4, on 01/30/2008, -2/+9Someone needs to fight back and succeed ending this terror of the RIAA.
Fight for your right to Paaaaaaaaaaaaaaarty!!! - davevis, on 01/30/2008, -2/+9You replied perfectly. Independent is the way to go, and many artists are starting to see that.
- AlienMushroom, on 02/21/2008, -1/+8It's copyrighted... ©
- ManufactrsDfect, on 01/30/2008, -1/+8POLL: What school comes to mind when you hear UT?
- suprememilo, on 01/30/2008, -3/+10isn't that school in Austin called tu?
- smacksaw, on 01/30/2008, -0/+7...not your personal army, etc.
- bbqribs, on 01/30/2008, -0/+7Obligatory "***** the RIAA" - but seriously, something needs to be done to stop this *****. They are just lawyerbowling over students that don't know any better. "Pay up or we will make your life a living hell" is their MO. "It'll be easier if you just pay us the money and we'll make it go away." What a load of *****. Call me back when they actually bother to show up to court with actual evidence. Kudos to the folks that stand up and fight back.
- vaj3000, on 01/30/2008, -0/+7war piratebay arrrrrrrrr
- Kurlumbenus, on 01/30/2008, -1/+8Welcome to Digg.
- vvortex3, on 01/30/2008, -2/+9Help us ANON!!!
- TimHasAnAfro, on 01/30/2008, -0/+6And the fact that the dorms there aren't very good. But the near campus housing is.
- StaticThunder, on 01/30/2008, -2/+8You're right, Texas needn't bother since its no contest. UTK aspires to be like UT someday.
- RedPhalanx, on 01/30/2008, -0/+6I thought UTenn Knoxville was a minor auxillary college, like UTA (Texas-Arlington) or A&M Corpus. Didn't realize it was the main campus. Sorry.
