- 16x9, on 09/26/2008, -5/+33 I think they RIAA serves at least one valuable function: they make the banking industry executives who are so heavily involved in the financial mess we're in seem like pretty smart and decent human beings.
- LuckyEMS, on 09/27/2008, -7/+26***** the RIAA
- conglomerator, on 09/26/2008, -5/+21RIAA will burn in hell
- pigfister, on 09/27/2008, -2/+13Name and shame these scumbags don't allow them to hide behind their trade body names.

RIAA Claims Ownership of All Artist Royalties For Internet Radio
http://slashdot.org/articles/07/04/29/0335224.shtm ...
"With the furor over the impending rate hike for Internet radio stations, wouldn't a good solution be for streaming internet stations to simply not play RIAA-affiliated labels' music and focus on independent artists? Sounds good, except that the RIAA's affiliate organization SoundExchange claims it has the right to collect royalties for any artist, no matter if they have signed with an RIAA label or not. 'SoundExchange (the RIAA) considers any digital performance of a song as falling under their compulsory license. If any artist records a song, SoundExchange has the right to collect royalties for its performance on Internet radio. Artists can offer to download their music for free, but they cannot offer their songs to Internet radio for free ... So how it works is that SoundExchange collects money through compulsory royalties from Webcasters and holds onto the money. If a label or artist wants their share of the money, they must become a member of SoundExchange and pay a fee to collect their royalties.'"
http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2007/4/24/141326 ... scumbags boycott all their media until they change their ways, don't allow them to be the Gatekeepers of our culture. - pigfister, on 09/27/2008, -1/+8Name and shame them dude don't allow them to hide behind their trade body names while ripping of the Artists and the Consumers.

- Dylson, on 09/27/2008, -1/+7the RIAA makes me want to ***** uncontrollably for weeks on end.
- say592, on 09/27/2008, -1/+7Use the reply system, like this.
- earthforce1, on 09/27/2008, -0/+5Ludicrous - the rules of evidence were not followed, and the RIAA lawyers have all but admitted that they cannot make a case if they actually had to prove distribution.
Not only that, they are in serious hot water in a number of state for using unlicenced private investigators. - Jerky1312, on 09/27/2008, -3/+8There is a lot of great music out there. The internet provides a great medium to access and discover music/musicians people will enjoy. Unless your only source of music is via the radio, you shouldn't be bitching about the crap RIAA is feeding you. Turn off the radio and discover music online, where its a much better level playing field.
- palewook, on 09/27/2008, -1/+6the bill is being streamlined to pass. and has support. above article has not been updated to show current events.

- cgbspender, on 09/27/2008, -0/+4Just wait for Biden to become vice president. It would be foolish not to expect that he will use his new influence to tip the scales to the benefit of his RIAA-friends and benefactors.
- JudgeMonkey, on 09/27/2008, -0/+3I hate to digg you down for being off topic, that was rather awesome in a random way. But I'm afraid irrelevance takes the lead. I am sure the great wide internet has a nice cozy spot somewhere for that though.
- earlvanze, on 09/27/2008, -0/+3The RIAA makes my underwear run up and give me a wedgie.
- hellbent187, on 09/27/2008, -0/+3$9250 per song infringement. I'm glad the judge considers that to be absurd. The RIAA isn't happy punishing people, they want make an example of them by destroying their lives!
- earthforce1, on 09/28/2008, -0/+2From the article:
http://blog.wired.com/27bstroke6/2008/06/professor ...
The judge invited briefing by the RIAA, Thomas' lawyers and the public at large. A hearing is set for August.
So far, only a group of ten copyright scholars weighed in, telling Davis that actual distribution to the public must be shown. Such a requirement, however, is technologically infeasible.
From : http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/09/25/jammie_tho ...
"Requiring proof of actual transfers would cripple efforts to enforce copyright owners' rights online" a lawyer for the association said in a court filing in May.
Yeah, it sucks actually having to prove your case doesn't it?
From : http://blog.wired.com/27bstroke6/2008/09/not-for-p ...
Davis' decision means the Recording Industry Association of America's five-year copyright infringement litigation campaign has never been successful at trial. - insllvn, on 09/27/2008, -0/+2http://digg.com/comedy/This_is_my_House_2

/collegejockasshole - N3M3515, on 09/27/2008, -1/+2Hey I love that song!
- uberduger, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1Yes, but thanks to the recording industry, services like Pandora (and most internet radio) are closing very, very soon. So damn it, they're doing their hardest to stop us accessing and discovering enjoyable music.
- mohsenxp, on 09/27/2008, -3/+4Yes because the only music is the official weekly top 40!
Heck there's only that many songs being released every week. Heck MTV has enough time and a wide enough demographic base to cater for everyone's music taste. - inactive, on 09/27/2008, -3/+4Idiot.
- uberduger, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1riaaradar.com
Use it so that you never have to give the MAFIAA any more money. - JPHR, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1Food for thought:
Within the European political and legal environment the RIAA has no leverage at all except perhaps for commercial scale counterfeiting. Simply basic fairness.
Also credit cards are severely limited in fee and rates.
US Citizens/consumers/taxpayers/voters let corporations get away with this extortion? - inactive, on 09/27/2008, -1/+2At least judges once again, as they should have been, started throwing out these cases due to lack of evidence. Sorry RIAA, you cannot just say "but I swear they were!" and hope to get your ends.
BTW, the artists you are "defending" enjoying their royalties /s ? - d66kid, on 12/25/2008, -0/+1Everybody stab RIAA employees!
- inactive, on 09/27/2008, -1/+2Don't forget the 'Yeah' at the end..
Damn I should write this *****... - ATLien74, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1Radio should be better. Blame Clear Channel.
- unitedatheism, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1Just don't buy any kind of music, download it!
Let's not support the same people who's trying to ***** us and/or our friends.
The artist can survive by doing live performances and they all do know that as for now. - Never2bFound06, on 09/30/2008, -0/+1Everone go to http://www.riaa.com/
Go to "Report Piracy"
Help me tell the RIAA excactly how we feel about them by flooding their server with our message!
They actually follow up on that part of their site, so lets tell them what we think of them on their own site! - boneit, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1How long until they start asking for "bailout" money, because all the nasty wasty pirates are supposedly killing their business?
- locojones, on 09/27/2008, -1/+2Oh yeah? Please cite which rules of evidence were not followed. It's ok, I'll wait.
- Calinthalus, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1Heck.....MTV plays music?
- hellbent187, on 09/27/2008, -1/+1boo
- gelatina1996, on 09/27/2008, -1/+1Who cares about who is part of which group? TPB ***** them all!
- cday, on 09/26/2008, -10/+10@16x9, Maybe a better comparison would be between roof rats and sewer rats, roof rats may not be quite as diseased and disgusting as their ugly, sewer cousins, but still, rats is rats. Actually, the RIAA might be more like the blood-sucking, plague-carrying mites on the sewer rats. Or maybe the slime between the toes of the blood-sucking, plague-carrying mites on the ugly sewer rats...
Ok...I should probably stop here and go have another bloody mary...
TGIF!
p.s. - please let me be the first to say "***** the riaa" (OMG, if I were sober I never would have written that...I'm going to be soooo embarrassed tomorrow) - nihilism5150, on 09/27/2008, -1/+1The RIAA is just a big "***** You" to artists everywhere.
- inactive, on 09/27/2008, -2/+2Why do you submit every single torrent freak article??
- sfacets, on 09/27/2008, -3/+3...and this is only the beginning.
- jagoo, on 09/27/2008, -0/+0Screw the RIAA(mafia)
- Jenadae, on 09/27/2008, -7/+7the RIAA makes my pants tight
- wallclimber, on 09/27/2008, -3/+2I'm sorry cday, I don't know why your post isn't getting dugg more, it's the funniest comment I've read all day. For what it's worth, I gave you a digg.
- deepleet, on 09/27/2008, -3/+2DOWN THE RIAA!
- mohsenxp, on 09/27/2008, -2/+1Close.
