- dragonmortal, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Couldn't I wrap my cable modem in tin foil to block this tracking?
- JackDoyle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8That's not my IP address... it's my neighbor's unsecured hotspot.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6> Those who steal are the only ones who have to worry about the RIAA.
Actually.... those who *SHARE* are the only ones who need fear.
Nice to know everything you learned in kindergarden is *CRAP*. - Imagist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Their IP addresses are:
www.grokster.com = 67.15.22.17
www.riaa.com = 146.82.174.10
www.mpaa.org = 66.252.129.187
www.respectcopyrights.com = 66.252.129.187
www.musicunited.org = 67.62.118.39
and have been LOGGED. - 200iso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3uh... not that it really matters. but, there wouldn't be an "sending code" in the html. It would all be done server side with the php or simiply by analyzing the web server logs.
- cracell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Hello I'm Eric Cranston with the RIAA, and I'd like to alert you that we are suing everyone single one of your punkasses for every cent you're worth. Making fun of us is a no-no and I assume most of you have stolen our merchandise, costing us billions. Even if you haven't we will create some evidence, doesn't really matter. As well we are suing digg for not preventing all of you from bashing us. Sharing is wrong, and we will steal from our customers until you understand that. I'll see you all in court.
- jmoorse, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4hey! quicker than a Start -> Run -> ipconfig! nice
- dragonmortal, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Maybe if we could do the digg affect on the website the log will become so huge that the RIAA servers would run out of hard drive space.
*crosses fingers*
;) - yodaj007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's called the server logs. There doesn't have to be anything at all in the web page to log your IP. Putting the IP on the page *is* a scare tactic, but servers log IP's all the time.
- loneBoat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think Wal-Mart needs to start putting the following label on every hammer they sell from their hardware department:
----- The United States Supreme Court unanimously confirmed
----- that using this hammer to hit strangers on the head is illegal.
----- Hitting people on the head using unauthorized hammers
----- is illegal and is prosecuted by head owners.
----- There are legal ways to hit things with hammers.
----- Hitting people in the head is not one of them.
----- YOUR CREDIT CARD NUMBER IS XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX AND HAS BEEN LOGGED.
----- Don't think you can't get caught. You are not anonymous. - beaurich, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Go to the link off of Grokster. If you search around awhile you can find some really interesting facts.
For instance, did you know I am "cheating myself out of the movie experience" when I illegally download them? now I shall quit!! - digitalsin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2ALL YOUR IP ARE BELONG TO US!
- pdkrocul, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21. Log IP
2. ??????
3. PROFIT! - flock31070, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Dupe

Don't think you can't get caught. You are not anonymous."
OMG!!!! Now im going to be arested ,noooo i dont want to die in prison lol :P
RIAA is realy pathetic. - freeman755, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It'd be funny too see someone in bestbuy or any public terminal that surfed to grokster.com and then actually freaked out, and screamed "Oh $#@^! they got me!" and then ran out of the building.
- stark23x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I got a log for them. Unfortunately you can't send biohazardous material via USPS.
- pgm_01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1 YOUR IP ADDRESS IS 70.xxx.xx.xx AND HAS BEEN LOGGED.
Don't think you can't get caught. You are not anonymous.
All your Base Are Belong To Us. - jayster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1man I hate these guys, I'm so fed up with the whole music industry.
- command, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1YOUR IP ADDRESS IS 216.127.72.7 AND HAS BEEN LOGGED.
Don't think you can't get caught. You are not anonymous.
216.127.72.7 isn't my IP, it is the address for www.the-cloak.com, so apparently I am anonymous. - StatiK69, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So when googlebot goes across it what does that mean?
RUN GOOGLE, RUN!!! - loneBoat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1----- The United States Supreme Court unanimously confirmed

----- Copying copyrighted motion picture and music files
----- using unauthorized peer-to-peer services is illegal and is

----- There are legal services for downloading music and movies.
----- This service is not one of them.
----- YOUR IP ADDRESS IS 130.184.57.187 AND HAS BEEN LOGGED.
----- Don't think you can't get caught. You are not anonymous.
Good grief. Granted, most people using Grokster were using it for illegal purposes, it was in and of itself a legitimate service. How professional is that last line, "Don't think you can't get caught. You are not anonymous." Pretty childish, eh?
Oh, and do they honestly think they can make an ip address stand up in court? I swear, the people running these things don't have much of a clue about the technical side of this. Have they heard of proxies, IP address spoofing, or dynamic IP addressing? C'mon, people... - ToadPedestal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I can't imagine any website that doesn't include the remote IP in the logs that is even semi-respectable.
The only places that don't keep an IP log are the ones that specifically turn it off. - Tenetri, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I made a C++ program that now Downloads the HTML from Grokster and Removes everything but the IP address, puts it into my Clipboard and Closes :D
Gave it to all my friends as a New Years Present :D - wifiwars, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1wow seriously
does 64.142.27.4 have to choke a bitch - grayapple, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I bet they logged my ip and are looking though my iTunes folder! NOES!
Hey, least I can dump the IP Widget from Dashboard. - MortenAaserud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://uploadfile.info/uploads/81f3c0548d.jpg
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1umm yes, your ip is in the logs of every site you go to. Good thinking there riaa.
- LynchMOB, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I just dropped a LOGG.
- koko775, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How dare they treat me like a criminal for going to the pages."Don't think you can't get caught. You are not anonymous." Pfft.
- Staggx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is the funniest bunch of comments I've seen on Digg in a while... please continue...
btw, I'm still laughing at "That's not my IP address... it's my neighbor's unsecured hotspot." LMAO! - amitrix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this is so funny and annoying...outta curiousity, I surfed Grokster.com through http://anonymizer.com/ and got the following message:
"YOUR IP ADDRESS IS xxx.xxx.xxx.28 AND HAS BEEN LOGGED.
Don't think you can't get caught. You are not anonymous."
ooooooh..i'm so scared now...why?? for accessing a stupid site!!!!! c'mon!!! - madcat87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Look at this http://www.respectcopyrights.com/content.html ,hahahaso funny
- liquidedge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The RIAA is now just becoming a parody of themselves. Who the hell is directing policy for these guys?
- sgtkillmore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1that's pretty funny
- deesnutz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, I've visited their site with all the 20+ unprotected WI-FI access points at my girlfriends apartment. I hope the mighty RIIA fuktards don't bring them down. The sky is falling! The sky is falling! The RIIA is logging ip addys. What are we going to do now? DDoS anyone? ;)

Just kidding btw. My words are uses strictly for entrainment purposes. I am an actor and I am pretending to be a hacker. My words and described actions therefore could not and should not be used against me in any court of law. PS, I might be an actor playing a hacker, but kids, seriously don't do any illegal stuff. You could get in trouble with the big bad RIAA. Oh, yeah, boycott their dumb asses. - Happy New Year! hehehehe ;) - PAStheLoD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1OMG! OMFG!! The US supreme court unanimously said (or more precisely didn't say) so meting about file transfer and peers to pairs .. and wtf?! I live in Hungary, now the whole US is after me? OMFG! They'll just conquer my poor country, and look after me.. oh my god!
[ah. this logged thing is so funny.. i will drop a few tears, after they've been gone, because jokes like these will be missed :D] - Gregac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This was actually so funny when I found out about it, I actually bookmarked this site under my bookmarks-->Humor-->Internet Gems. I can't wait until someone sets a page refreshing site for broadband users so it gets taken down by an overwhelming number of page requests. I wonder if someone will eventually rig an tor onion router network to keep loading that page and spitting out different IP address too?
- daurkin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think it would be great if the Digg affect should take down Grokster. FLASH MOB.
I remember the old signature blocks that can rotate phases and ip address of it's viewers, and how people were always scarred of it. - Trumpi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I was so scared that I hit refresh a few times.
- Vlatro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Makes me want to spoof the IP addresses of Porn Sites, and refresh with a new one every 2 seconds for a few weeks.
- boazg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1laughing at them is fun and all, but there ***** deserve a proper backlash. enough of us can properly DoS them. i add my bandwidth:
#!/bin/bash
while [ 1 ]; do dog http://grokster.com >/dev/null; done;
and if any of you have a spare botnet, feel free to use it. lets see how high their bandwidth bill can get :)
btw dog is cat over HTTP. - wilf_brim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ohh, I'm really scared. Sod off, RIAA.
*flips the bird in general direction of NYC and goes to bitsoup on the off chance there is some decent music there." - gweedo767, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Should I reply to them with this?
"YOUR IP ADDRESS IS 67.15.22.17 AND HAS BEEN LOGGED.
Don't think you can't get caught. You are not anonymous." - kolop1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So...what are they going to do with millions of logged ip addresses?
- oyourmom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1is there a way to make your IP address alphabetic so you can say like "YOUR IP ADDRESS IS RIA.AIZ.GA.Y AND HAS BEEN LOGGED"
this isnt a threat cause any website on the face of the earth loggs your ip address into a bank filed within the central server. ***** the riaa - diggenerate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1even if they could use your ip address against you in some don't most ISP's use dynamic IP addressing -- Mine does and my IP address changes about every 3 or 4 days
- Tenetri, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1By the way, check out http://anon.free.anonymizer.com/http://grokster.com
YOUR IP ADDRESS IS 207.195.241.28 AND HAS BEEN LOGGED.
Don't think you can't get caught. You are not anonymous.
I'd say thats pretty freakin anonymous :P - geminus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Spoof your IP address to 127.0.0.1 and slam them! W00t!
- orangetiki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1go imagist. And what if you don't have a static IP?
