- Canadave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5If you actually follow the links and read her court filing, the story is completely different. She says the ISP account was in her name, but that her ex-husband was the one who used the computer. She says she does not even know what KAZAA is, but that she did not supervise what her husband did on the computer. So, before everyone starts ranting, perhaps you should check the facts. I'm no fan of the RIAA, but this is more like the parent getting sued for their kid's use of the computer than what the Digg headline suggests.
- stolenpass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Her probably didn't work because of all the spyware and malware she had from downloading off of kazaa.
- AUGrad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If you read the counterclaims document, it doesn't say that she had a computer, but it wasn't working. It says that when she & her husband divorced, he took the computer. So, she had no computer. RIAA sued her because it was her name on the cable account & not her husband's. Unfortunately for them, he is no longer at this address.
- Xopl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2When are people going to learn you get in less trouble for just stealing the CDs right out of the music stores.
- 16x9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Watching what the RIAA and MPAA is doing is very much like I'd imagine it to be to watch a dinosaur die. It's a slow, gory process. And the flailing limbs do a lot of damage to anything nearby. But eventually it will all be over.
- Chewie67, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hey, you know what? If you don't like the RIAA, then stop buying music!
Where do you think they get the money to launch all these ridiculous law suits?
Music today is crap anyway. Spend your money on something else -- movies, video games, sports, etc.
Let the RIAA wither and die. - longofest, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1nene7070: see the many statements by artists that denounce music sharing. The only ones that like it are indie-artists, and if that is the case, then that isn't RIAA anyways.
Sharing music is bad for artists, but of course everyone knows that isn't the reason why the RIAA does it. they say it is, but it isn't. They are companies. Companies have employees, and companies also have shareholders or otherwise have a profit to earn. When there is piracy, there is a dip in profits. Now, I personally think that getting overkill on profits is wrong, but I feel for those employees of the recording industry that work hard, don't get paid much, and then get hurt by people like the people in this forum who claim to be all righteous and slam the RIAA.
There are regular guys who work in the Recording Industry like sound technicians, cable-runners, etc that don't earn a ton, but work their asses off. When you steal music, you say their work isn't worth a damn. If you really think thats true, then you need to hear what the music sounds like when it is just a regular scratch recording before the engineers and producers work their magic with effects and editing. It sounds horrible, and not only would you not buy it, but you wouldn't listen to it either. - sirplus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1remember the Napster Bad series? that whole Lars Ulrich nonsense was back in 2000, and the RIAA still has it's head wedged firmly up it's collective arse. hmm, sue your customers, sue your fans, great idea. "home taping is killing music" was their rap against blank cassettes. i had a mix tape, one of many my friends made for me in high school, it contained the who and zep and other stuff i already knew and loved, it also had a coupla groups that were new at the time. total unknowns the replacements and REM. it really hurt REM's career that i had a free copy of Gardening At Night in rotation at my house, for all my buddies to check out, and it hurt them worse that we all paid to go see them when they showed up at the local club. yes, it hurt REM even more when we became major fans and bought merch and show tix and records, all of which we wouldn't have done if the stuff had come at us through the corporate advertising pipeline. you know, there was another band, an unknown metal group called Mettalica, that had demos in circulation at my school, and all the metal heads had to have it. third, fourth generation copies, it didn't matter. they loved the ***** and wanted a copy. really bummed Lars & co out that their shows started to fill up with these kids. yessir, home taping definitely killed music. they learn nothing. life goes on. i think i'll jump on limewire now.
- 42kami, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1undigg--. christ people, read the article before you digg it. misleading title.
- hottyson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This document lists the details of the woman being sued.
http://www.lifeofalawyer.com/riaa/capitol_foster_responsetomotdiscounterclaims.pdf
It is so silly that the RIAA would go after someone who is innocent. The whole point of this case is that there can not be absolute proof of who is breaking the law in sharing of copy-righted material over the internet. - Sonic84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0what's wrong with the RIAA? are they just plain stupid?
- JaggedEdge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0now this RIAA ***** is just that. *****. but... unlucky for her her BOYFRIEND had a WORKING COMPUTER that he had used to get onto the internet...
- silentauthority, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"it got out of hand a long time ago"
amen. - Live4Soccer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Beautiful RIAA...continue to shoot yourself in the Public Relations Foot...
My Boycott Continues...
SCREW SONY! - longofest, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So, I'm gonna be the one guy to stick up for the RIAA in SOME RESPECTS. That is a big SOME RESPECTS, mind you. Here's the deal: I think they have every right in the world to protect their copyrighted property, and when people steal it, the RIAA has every right to sue them for damages.
That being said, there are cases like this one where things get ugly. In this case, the defense has a reasonable argument. In the cases where kids get sued, I'm kinda torn. I believe the real targets of the lawsuit should be the parents for encouraging (or at least turning a blind eye) to the acts of their children. But the RIAA shouldn't be suing kids, and in this case should drop the suit against the lady since she has a reasonable story. - molotov, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It is obvious that most of you morons haven't even read the story.
WORKING COMPUTER is the key phrase. I'd be curious to see what her definition of "working" is. - jayf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I say we all host bogus files like "snoop_dogg_barking.mp3" with a recording of our dogs barking and let the RIAA catch us and show them how indiscriminate their spider targetting system is.
- zenghost, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0someone should bomb their hq...
- dragonmaster2d, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0there is a 24 hour period in which once you have downloaded music you can delete it and its not illegal... i think it has to do with try before you buy =D
- shade73, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0why has no one counter-sued for harassment or defamation of character, that's what I don't understand?
- blarneystone, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Hey Maagic,
If you're going to call someone a moron, I'd suggest you learn how to spell "moron" first.
...and who cares if it's a blog. Obviously not the hundreds of people who dug it, so just deal with it. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They are both parts of the anti christ
- dolby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ok, ok who is worst the RIAA or Song BMG?
- logicus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"EVIL shenanigans"
- Wizzkid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0RIAA WILL DIE!!!! Them and their stupid tactics will NOT work
- antiTRACE, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I really hope it goes to court, so it can once and for all set a standard to throw out all these bs bullying tactics.
- freelancer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I rarely post comments but this week we all banned together and basicly will put PriceRitePhoto damn near out business after the exposure the digg community has.. we need to do the same thing here and send a clear message to those at the RIAA.
- dgath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sony BMG is a member of the RIAA, so they're basically the same.
- chohada, on 09/08/2008, -0/+0Www.Chohada.fr le plus grand site pour les tubes

http://chohada.fr/ - gmoney, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0but I bet she had a dream about file sharing, that's justification alone! Lay down the legal woop ass on that! That'll learn ya!
- Hieros, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0See, what the problem is, is that the RIAA, instead of preparing better, and is too vain to step down and admit they are wrong. They are so out of line, I would not be surprised to see RIAA employees being assaulted or even killed.
- vigil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Actually AUGrad, the counterclaim lists, under Undisputed Material Facts, that her ex-husband left the computer without the monitor and keyboard and she was told he "took the working parts." The "box" was placed in the garage.
While I'm all for "sticking it to the man" I'm a little skeptical of this woman's defense. - designbydave, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1RIAA is very very gay
- thotpoizn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It sure would be nice if the technology used by the RIAA and affiliates to "harvest" IP addresses for these spurious lawsuits could be definitively proven unsound and easily seeded with bad data... All these diggers and nobody has posted some cample code or maybe a bash script yet? *grins and rubs hands together...*
- kludwig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Has anyone seen the satire piece in "The Onion" about the RIAA? http://www.theonion.com/content/node/43029 - very funny.
- Sm9uYXRoYW4, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0In case anyone forget, here's the original ruling that made all this possible.
He's a Bush appointee, btw.
http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_zdext/is_200304/ai_ziff40938 - taraba, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Canadave,
Yeah, seems like that's the case - thotpoizn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Er, _S_ample code, rather. Curses! I had to turn of javascript in order to survive the chaos of the righteous inDIGGnation in the priceritephoto thread... Forgot that also blew away my nifty "hilite bone-headed typos" feature too... *sheepish grin!*
- wired4u, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0rekrapt I agree with you, the high price of cds is sick. But concert ticket while expensive I find totally worth it. There is nothing like sing and parying with 1000's of other who live the same music as you do.
- Sell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0LOL Xopl, The times they are a changin'. Used to be all you needed was a backpack, a puffy jacket, a good friend to look out and a back door escape. Target security is much easier to run from then the RIAA. And dont steal CD's from Walmart that crap is all censored!!!!!
- SinisterBunni, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Maybe the lady sang "Happy Birthday" to someone and forgot to pay the friggin royalties. GEEE, I just love Hamerica. The land of the rich and those that can afford justice.
- Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It got out of hand when they first sued someone... ***** RIAA... Thanfully, it's still legal in Canada~
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Does anybody have a list of labels to avoid?
If this is true I will do everything in my power to bring down the RIAA. Not through sharing music or not buying the music. But taking part in active efforts to shut this industry down through legal means. Maybe even to the point of joining in a fight against the RIAA. How that fight will take form, I dunno. - nene7070, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If "sharing music" is so bad for the ARTISTS (who the RIAA claims to be protecting), why arent THEY the ones doing the suing? Why is it the RIAA? Maybe its not so bad...
- nbyne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I agree with you that blogs are a great addition to the news media but don't slam just fox, CNN is just as slanted. if anything the two just cancel each other out. or better yet do what I do and stop watching these news channels that slant and choose stories that back only their views. Instead read the news from other countries like the BBC as well as the blogs.
- GTAcrimelord, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0At least the RIAA hasn't started sueing children yet... Oh wait, they already have. Those bastards!!!
- MrCoke, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1title says woman has no computer. she had one. it wasnt working. BS DIGG. learn how to digg or dont do it at all, didnt know submiting a link was so hard
- ting, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow, funny indeed. It'll be interesting to see the world's changes that are coming soon. Sooner than I thought.
I try hard, but I can't come even close to imagine what's really happening in the heads of such a ***** up RIAA/MPAA/etc. guys. From outside is entertaining, but I'm sure they think they fight real battle against the whole world lol. May be they have plans how exactly gonna win :))) OMG...
I hope I never fall on such a low level when I don't have any real judgment what is right and wrong. - longofest, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0molotov: it is obvious that you haven't read the comments. You are about the 60th person to have said something along those lines. And who's not reading things???
