- thenativeraver, on 10/12/2007, -18/+362I hope he loses his career for this, children look to these people as role models.
He should be let go. - beelz, on 10/12/2007, -8/+308he should be put in jail. just like anyone else that would do this.
- theblackgecko, on 10/12/2007, -9/+243Isn't it sad that an NFL player needs a posse to beat up a nerd.
I hope he ends up in prison, and gets a position change to "wide reciever." - NoUse, on 10/12/2007, -8/+147High school jocks never grow up, they just get multi-million dollar sports contracts.
- idiotlarry, on 10/12/2007, -15/+140I'm sure getting arrested is one of those things that let you out of a contract..
- lateralus, on 10/12/2007, -8/+118"Former Tight End"
- e3mw, on 10/12/2007, -3/+101Making fun of someone because they are using a computer in public is so fifth grade. Apparently this dumbass has never matured past that stage of his life.
- spin-docta, on 10/12/2007, -8/+103He left the fellow unconcious!
- ownedbytheman, on 10/12/2007, -9/+86Hey! Get back to replacing my brakes. You said I could pick it up at 5!
- bieber, on 10/12/2007, -7/+82Yeah, I'll just walk up and beat the everloving ***** out of Mr. Pro Football Player and his buddies. Uh huh.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+81I hope his career is ruined, besides, I'm sure he can fall back on that cushy 2.0 GPA.
- Machine, on 10/12/2007, -5/+65There seems to be a staggering amount of violent criminal behavior among NFL players... there's a book called "Pros and Cons : The Criminals Who Play in the NFL" by Jeff Benedict that states that 21% of players in the NFL have been charged with a serious crime including but not limited to "assault, rape, and domestic violence".
He also wrote a book on the NBA where he found about 40% of the 2001 roster had criminal records involving a serious crime.
Role models? Hardly... - Sell, on 10/12/2007, -4/+61Unfortunately next to nothing will happen to him. He has the money to buy his way out of trouble and football franchises are only concerned with winning.
- softrider1000, on 10/12/2007, -8/+64Methinks a group of determined nerds could make this guys life hell.....
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+60@Brydude, the biggest barrier to achievement for the African American community today is not the white man's lynch mob or glass ceiling.
Institutionalized racism was stamped out by affirmative action more than 2 decades ago.
Today the threat for blacks is an internal threat. It's the bitter gangstas that want to keep their entire race in the ghetto where the gangsta can still feel like a king, a successful man, merely though physical intimidation of the honest and meek. - smolek5228, on 10/12/2007, -41/+93He just signed a deal on Friday. If the Bears let him go they still have to pay him the $7.5 million he has guaranteed and get nothing in return. It makes no sense to cut him now.
- WickedDrag0oN, on 10/12/2007, -15/+67I say if you see him and his possie, kick there asses. That is just straight up rude.

- aliengoods, on 10/12/2007, -4/+50Let me get this straight. It took 5 people, one of whom is a professional athlete, to beat up 1 nerd.
When I was growing up, it only took 3 jocks to kick my ass. How times have changed. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+55The victim's "crime" was called "Acting White."
If any member of the black community expresses intelligence or attempts to earn his success he is seen as a threat by the thugs that maintain the status quo. - Grandfinale1, on 10/12/2007, -5/+50I just saw this story on PTI
This guy needs serious help - SqueakyWheel, on 10/12/2007, -17/+61We need to contact the NFL and The Bears
Call the NFL at 212-450-2000 and ask for the Commissioners' office
Bears 847-295-6600 - 12340987, on 10/12/2007, -5/+48Jocks? Nerds? is it 1981?
sad stuff though. I'd be glad to sue him for million afterwards though, maybe even draw them into a fight... - spin-docta, on 10/12/2007, -5/+48He actually might lose out on his BRAND-NEW contract. :-)
Remember .. no guaranteed contracts in the NFL - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+47Hey ***** off ownedbytheman he has to finish making my burger.
- sundancekid503, on 10/12/2007, -8/+45This will probably end up being the most expensive wedgie Manning ever gave.
- snowbooch, on 10/12/2007, -4/+41this is one of those rare situations where i hope a ridiculously large lawsuit is awarded, what a loser
- chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -8/+45He can always be a waste management technician.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+43Yeah, the kind of help that you can only get spending time behind bars.
- ezkiel, on 10/12/2007, -8/+44"I wish I could upvote twice for the wide reciever crack :)"
You can! Just click the thumbs up really fast in a row even while its loadin you can do from about 3-5 evener 6,7 +'s that way. - stevester, on 10/12/2007, -18/+51soogy & smolek, there is no sense for them to cut him in their eyes because they will lose money? so he can get away with physically attacking someone for no reason just because people will lose money if he is punished? please explain how that makes any sense... and what about the image he is setting? how does it look to kids who look up to him?
- Lewisham, on 10/12/2007, -9/+40I wish I could upvote twice for the wide reciever crack :)
- madholepunch, on 10/12/2007, -9/+40worst. grand slam. ever.
- Warptera, on 10/12/2007, -3/+32Just because he was working on a laptop? What. An. Idiot. He should be thrown in jail like anyone else woulds
- flibbittyjibbit, on 10/12/2007, -9/+371. Mind your own business
2. Get beat up by jock
3. Profit! - seanroth, on 10/12/2007, -5/+32This man did do something wrong, but you can't make a generalization about black people from one guy. Keep the racism out of digg.
- evolseven, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26if you refresh the page you will notice that its a client-side only change.. only one +digg gets registered..
- brjndr, on 10/12/2007, -5/+31Pro-athlete contracts often have morals clauses. They may be able to cut him and receive back the pro-rated share of the signing bonus for the unexpired term of the contract. Meaning, if they cut him tomorrow he's just get a few days pay. His isnging bonus is pro-rates to about $4100 a day.
I have no idea if his contract has a clause like this, he hasn't been a trouble maker in the past, so probably not. - kalisphoenix, on 10/12/2007, -3/+29On one notable occasion, it only took two Brownies and an animatronic Care Bear to beat me into submission.
- slackerbox, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27"Real nerds use l33t sp34k"
Correction: Real twelve-year-olds use leet speak. - FoxHunter, on 10/12/2007, -3/+27@ thenativeraver,
I agree 110%. In fact I hope the "nerd" ends up walking away with more than a few bag of gold from this ordeal.
- jasqwerty, on 10/12/2007, -6/+28I thought this was Eli for a second, but then I remembered, he's a skinny white quarterback.
- Mesach, on 10/12/2007, -5/+27You must be pretty slow at clicking, i usually get 8 with quite a few 10-11's
- boff, on 10/12/2007, -7/+28Did a klan meeting just get out or something?! Who let all these racist morons in here?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23@spin-docta:
Actually, the signing bonuses are guaranteed, so he won't walk away empty handed. - mtrip, on 10/12/2007, -9/+30The whole thing is on tape thankfully. (The link simply states that, it's not an actual video of the event, btw.)
http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?section=local&id=4112318 - Anubis2051, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23I hope that this ruins his career. Kids look up to sports stars, and if the people they look up to start beating up people for using computers, what do you think they will do? It will be the 1970s/80s all over again! I thought all that was over, guess not.
And even if this doesn't destroy his carear, we should get a bunch of nerds to go one of his games with laptops screaming about how much he sucks. Maybe we could even hack the scoreboard... - phr0stbyte, on 10/12/2007, -3/+23Actually NFL contracts aren't guaranteed, if the Bears let him go they wouldn't have to pay him a dime...but it would count against their cap (the amount of money they are allowed to spend on players) So even though they wouldn't have to pay him, they wouldn't be able to spend that money on anyone else.
- BigBlueOx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19LOL I love how they have his career stats next to the article
