- Dauntless1, on 07/08/2008, -0/+19Anyone who deosn't read the broadband contract or tries to pretend metered internet is good for anyone but the telecom companies deserves what they get.
- benologist, on 07/07/2008, -5/+22He was charged for bandwidth usage not copyright infringement.
- blowedupt, on 07/07/2008, -1/+16Even at 150 pounds that's crazy expensive.
- juneof44, on 07/08/2008, -3/+17Prison Break and a few songs didn't cost him that much; it was the misunderstanding of his mobile broadband contract.
- gelato822, on 07/08/2008, -0/+12Who goes to Portugal and then sits around and watches Prison Break on their computer?
- lucy22, on 07/07/2008, -1/+12$60,000, seriously gross!
- BrainCoder, on 07/08/2008, -0/+10Prison Break has never been more useful.
- skipthefrog, on 07/07/2008, -8/+18he could have pirated them in the US and been slapped with a bill by the RIAA- and it would have been cheaper. Didn't know anyone was more criminal than the RIAA
- c4sh, on 07/08/2008, -0/+8This guy most definitely did not "deserve what he got." It shouldn't even be possible, on any plan that charges 300ish dollars a month, to spend $60,000 dollars. Credit cards max out at a reasonable multiple of a user's average spending, why don't mobile broadband accounts?
- fas2, on 07/09/2008, -0/+7Totally misleading submission title, I hate that.
- theword12, on 07/09/2008, -1/+8That was the point of the comment. He was saying that IF he had pirated them the RIAA would have actually charged him LESS. Read the comment next time.
- pitchblack16, on 07/07/2008, -0/+7completely retarded if you ask me
- Bukowsky, on 07/08/2008, -0/+6**Prison Break Episode & A Few Songs Force Man Into Bankruptcy**

- inactive, on 07/07/2008, -3/+9these are for bandwidth uses people make sure you read the article
- Dauntless1, on 07/08/2008, -1/+6Which is why metered internet is for ***** dolts.
- kelchm, on 07/08/2008, -0/+5Lousy title Burento.
- moodley, on 07/07/2008, -1/+4omg, that's terrible
- paloooz, on 07/09/2008, -0/+2I was afraid this was going to be about the MPAA/RIAA.
- specialK16, on 07/08/2008, -1/+3Well if you read the article you would have noticed that ultimately he had to pay around $400, which is still a lot, but not $60000.
IT'S OVER 9000!!!! - danielson, on 07/08/2008, -1/+3Maybe you should just read the article where it explains that he is not going to end up paying that much.
- Schmich, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1Reducing the bill to £229 is really generous. Reading the title I thought the article would be a sad story but really it's the opposite.
- slapded, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1prison break is a really good show
- Acglaphotis, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1I certainly would. Portugal bored me when i was there.
- kcorbo, on 07/09/2008, -1/+2So the law (Bellick) caught the dude. We all know what will happen to Bellick (RIAA) in the end....they're going to get raped in the a$$ in a federal pound me in the a$$ prison....in Panama.
- JMPeronto, on 07/09/2008, -2/+3Who watches Prison Break? Period.
- geeserver, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1Downloading big files while roaming.... Not Smart!
- Nayson, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1Absolutely. Buried.
- shadowman99, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1The provider knows they're in the wrong, they reduced his bill to 460 dollars. At the very least they fear the PR backlash.
They probably could push him to pay the bill, but they would have driven away future customers. It's called "winning the battle but losing the war."
If I lived in the UK I'd stay clear of Yes like the plague. - zanyjim, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1He could be searching for Madeline
- deadmoo, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1Usually when you roam you pay what the network you are roaming on charges your normal carrier for the data usage, you don't pay what your carrier normally charges. Same goes for text and voice, no differrent. I think whatever carrier he was roaming on in Portugal was the one that set the price so high. His normal carrier probably had to eat almost the entire $60k after he whined, since someone most likely still had to pay the unnamed Portugal carrier.
- efitz11, on 07/09/2008, -2/+2me
- Dauntless1, on 07/10/2008, -0/+0Because they don't put a cap in the contract. So, when someone doesn't read what they sign, what happens? Do you really think it's the company's responsibility to make sure you have a fair deal? In addition, metered internet shouldn't even be considered an option, anywhere, ever. This isn't 1994, and I see news articles in my area about how the government has given my local telecom close to 2 billion dollars to upgrade infrastructure over the last two years, so don't give me that "Well maybe they can't afford to upgrade" crap. If they weren't making any money, ummm.... gee, wouldn't they be out of business? And not reporting record profits this year? The 'technological necessity' of metered internet is a falsehood that's being sold to the public at large. If people aren't smart enough to see through it, why do they think they have the right to complain? Anyone with a positive IQ can research the rates on metered internet, measure their own use per month, and then do some simple math(My usage x their rates) to figure out "Prison Break and a few songs=60,000". People who unable to figure out something this simple is the same kind of stupid reject that has to be TOLD fresh coffee is hot.
- inactive, on 07/09/2008, -1/+1I'd send them the retail value of the content and tell them to go ***** themselves.
- Dankoozy, on 07/09/2008, -1/+1Another reason to get prepaid. I get 1GB of data usage for 10 eur a month. The service isn't all that great but I never have to worry about getting a huge bill. The worst they can do is cut me off if I use too much.
But unfortunately prepaid is doomed to suck in North America, because the companies all ganged up together to try and convince people to sign their lengthy one-sided non-negotiable contracts instead. The contracts basically say that you have to pay them how ever much they want no matter what and they have 0 responsibility to give you any sort of service. Hell some of them even charge for incoming texts.
Vodafone are scumbags, the most expensive provider in this part of the world. All they ever do is buy up networks in other countries so they can rip off the people who live there. Eircell used to be a good phone operator until it got taken over by Voda - ironiridis, on 07/08/2008, -5/+4Again, (as hardcorecomb points out) remember that this is for USAGE OVERAGE, not some copyright sanction. Read the article.
- joeanon, on 07/08/2008, -6/+3The real question is how will the companies actually collect that fee.
Just tell them to go ***** themselves and watch the debt revolve in collection agencies. - inactive, on 07/08/2008, -9/+4deserves it for downloading that pos
