- Webteeth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'm really looking forward to the in-line spell checking. This is one of the advantages I really appreciate about my Mac, the system-wide spell checking. Especially for forum posts I think people are really going to love the feature.
- SamLachance, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4they need to fix 1.5 first....
- CritterNYC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Google Cache:

Well, Microsoft can always rip off Opera 9 instead and get the same features, if not more, than Firefox 2.0.
Just kidding.
But not really. - NidStyles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I agree. it seems they are going the bad way all Open Source seems to go. They are getting ahead of their actual project, and soon it'll suck just like IE. Someone needs to smack them, and let them know how bad 1.5 is on memory, and horrible on OS X. I doubt they'll listen though, being the developers of such a popular program, their ego's have most certainly grown to astronomical proportions.
I think they need a reality check. - jinexile, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Firefox 2.0 is not going to be all the different looking from 1.5 or 1.0.x before it. There are some neat features to be added, but seriously Firefox 3.0 (Early 2007) is where it's at with the Cairo rendering engine, it will be able to finally do full page zooming like Opera and better anti-aliasing on zoomed images and more.
- ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Hopefully this version won't be a crash-happy memory hog.
It's still better than IE though. - energyblue, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I wanted some screens ;(
+ Still digg - dunstdunst, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2http://firefox2.us
- nannerla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2god i wish koolaidman would stop spammin the comments good thing i got his aim
- LawrenceDudley, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"I love Firefox on my Windows machine, but it blows on Mac."
Try Camino, although I personally still prefer Safari. - jiminoc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3yea! lets keep bloating a good browser until its heavy and slow like the original mozilla!! sweet :(
- SpookyET, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Opera blows on Mac too because QT emulates the Aqua. It does not call Cocoa. And it blows.
Camino is Safari with the Gecko rendering engine with a little more functionality. On Mac, regardless that is is not integrated with KeyChain and Mail, Firefox also does not render buttons with the Aqual look. It has many more quirks. Somehow, the Camino developers made Gecko to render controls right. - x2dx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Fix the memory leak.........
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2if 1.5 broke all my extensions..abit temporarily.. i wonder what 2.0 will break.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2are they gonna fix the memory hog? with 5 tabs, firefox uses over 100MB memory, and sometimes 100% cpu
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If it stops sucking down half a gig of ram when I have 5 tabs open, sign me up.
- xtremesniper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3It's funny because Opera already has most of these features. Oh well.
- MajorOutage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"what about bittorrent functionality?? Opera already has that. those other improvements are very vague, and not very exciting."
I don't even like using the Mozilla download manager for extra-large files, since it keeps me from ending a browser session. Now you want to make it handle torrents internally? LOL! Get a real torrent client. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yay SessionSaver, the extension sucked.
Lets hope this version works... - DudeGuy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"I love Firefox on my Windows machine, but it blows on Mac."
I know exactly what you mean, a lot of friends keep telling me this. I've used Safari a couple times, but I just can't be bothered to switch to it. Camino isn't anything special, it's a lot like the mac version of IE. I've tried out Opera too, and it's pretty great but I guess I'm too lazy to switch from Firefox. - geforceter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1the only thing that sucks in firefox now is its download manager...hope they make a better one
- alterself, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1the wiki sure is suffering...
- audiojack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1it's great when websites respond "this site has been dugg" Yusss!
- jmarmolejo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'd be satisfied if they just fixed memory leak already.
- CYANUBIS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Great now more that's more plugins that won't install.
- wamatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1actually thats just a code name, its called Firefox 2. http://developer.mozilla.org/devnews/
- Paradox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This news is older than thanksgiving turkey.
- mpegcom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1firefox rox
- wrex00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I agree with that said above. Opera already has these features and MUCH MORE. I appreciate what firefox has done for the browser wars, by bringing them back. Firefox has shown people that IE is not the one and only. MS is once again on the defensive forcing them to innovate, and hopefully we'll see some.
But guys, why wait for 2007 for half the features Opera has today? Just go get Opera unless you are really into browser plugins for firefox or live/die by open source. Then stick with it.
Jerry
http://www.egodev.com - EmileVictor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I REALLY like the quote on the page:
"This document is currently in draft. This document also static, while it is being dugg."
Meaning they certainly are aware of this story. - eldinb, on 08/09/2008, -0/+1If it hogs my PCs memory like the 1.5 release, I'm switching for sure.
Go check out Flock ;>
http://www.flock.com/ - disord3r, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Hopefully it won't pop up a link search anymore when I type apostrophes into comment boxes on random websites. Hopefully it will put the URL of the link I clicked on into the new browser window immediately, in the event the server doesn't respond. Hopefully it won't lose all my bookmarks twice per month. Hopefully it won't crash entirely when a single tab stops responding.
- anorris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So, eliseo, the odds of having Firefox 2 for your birthday are slim to none.
Haha, very rarely do companies hit dates that far out, however its good to see that they are still working hard on the browser! - TheKillDoctor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Anti-phishing a definite plus!
- matid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sounds cool. I think new bookmarks and history are great improvement (AFAIR it's something like tags, see Flock for more), but the rest is quite the same. Anyway, we're waiting ;)
- Mongoose, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sweet! It won't come out til like, December, though. +digg
- milican, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Coralized

JOhn - altidude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"if 1.5 broke all my extensions..abit temporarily.. i wonder what 2.0 will break."
As usual for a FF upgrade, 2.0 will break some, or all, of your extensions, depending on the extensions you use. It's written in the Wiki that any extension related to history or bookmarks "almost certainly have to be rewritten". - Namco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1All I want is for somebody to update EbayNegs extension.
- undauntedspirit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1When the tabs become multi-threaded -- wake me up.... I use Firefox, I love Firefox (when it doesn't crash.) However I can't believe it's not threaded!!!
- Elleo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"what's an aviary 2.0 blocker?"
Aviary is a label for Firefox branches. A blocker is a bug serious enough to block a release. - FreyrVanir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Bon Echo is just the code name cptnobvious. It will be called firefox 2.0 when released for general usage.
Personally it shouldn't be a 2.0 release. Because there is no major back end changes. What they are dubing firefox 3.0 will have the major back end changes.
They should just do odd=beta even=release like most open source projects. Unless they must have a bigger and bigger number ever release.
Firefox 2.0=Firefox 1.8(mark the beta as 1.7)
Firefox 3.0=Firefox 2.0(mark the beta as 1.9) - thomashallock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1what's an aviary 2.0 blocker?
- Tezkah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Absolutely no mention of decreasing the memory usage of the beast.
I thought firefox was supposed to be lightweight? - TimmyGUNZ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Try Camino, although I personally still prefer Safari."
Yeah, I tried Camino...it sucks too. I stick to Safari unless I run into the rare circumstance that a page won't load, then I'll use Firefox. I find Firefox crashes too much and runs very sluggish on Mac. No problems on Windows though. - ndm007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1link is awfully slow.
- BT-Wang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1how about putting back all of the features that were removed in 1.5 to simplify the interface?
- CptnObvious, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Bon Echo" is a crappy name for a good browser. To shame to shame
- teamgreen02, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Maybe Firefox 2.0 won't have random crashes and 100% cpu usage, that will be great. I am extremely disappointed in 1.5.
