- indiekid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i work for the geek squad...and yeah, some of these calls are pretty funny, i'll admit that myself, in fact, i know a few of the people it was done to. but we're not all idiots...there just seems to be a few people that want to exploit anything they find wrong...
*not going to comment much - Hemlock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Again These aren't agent's they are talking to. These are only people in the dispatch office. I used to work for a competing company the people in the dispatch office have verry little understanding of computers. This is by design. They don't want the person to be helped over the phone right then... They want to set up an appointment. Not until you have paid money do you get the chance to talk to someone who knows anything close to enough about computers. This is funny in that they make the person on the other side feel uncomfortable, but it would be funnier if they were talking to the real techs.

- franksmith, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I would agree with you involving a LOT of companies BUT NOT MS
I have talked with their support many times for reasons that were not their fault and each time they are very polite, professional and helpful with clear and understandable English. A couple of times they even refunded all fees.
I don't like outsourcing but it has become a fact of life and trying to fight it is a waste of time. Furthermore, there are a lot of people that when they make a tech call and have to talk to someone with an accent of a different language they get their panties in a bunch whether or not the person speaking clearly or not... boo freaking hoo - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You have to remember, they're not talking to the actual techs. They're talking to the idiots who answer phones for a living. They people who answer the phones only set up an appointment for a Geek to visit you and help you out. They don't know ANYTHING and don't have to, because they don't supply tech support.
- Hemlock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It would be funnier if they were actually talking to the techs not just the dispatchers who know nothing about the computers and have one goal... Schedule an appointment.
- Neil, on 01/27/2008, -0/+1Does anyone have a copy of these? I can't find any copy of them anywhere.
- xpgeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I saw this on the edge of i-hacked blog yesterday. Some are kind of dum, a couple are pretty funny. I saved the one where the guy calls about his fan and starts beating the crap out of his pc while on the phone. "I'll take it back and tell them it came like this." lmao
- phore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1omg, 79 dollars for someone to install a driver for you.
- Ma5t3r_Chi3f, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2My pay rate is $19/hour plus I take the car home and they pay for my cell, gas, car washes, insurance, and maintenance.
There are a lot of people (home users) who don't know how or don't want to try to fix their own computer. I worked for a small shop a long time ago, and they did charge cheaper rates, but look at everything that is behind Geek Squad. The #1 consumer electronics retailer, Best Buy, owns us now. We have the advertising, which is huge. The support is available 24/7. Geek Squad is nationwide.
Listen, I'm not trying to pump you with all kinds of pro Geek Squad stuff, but I am just listing the facts.
- The company "Geek Squad" is over ten years old
- In its first year is made 60,000 for the year
- Now it is raking in around 80 Million a year (Nationwide roll out was last year)
- We have serviced over 540,000 computers
Bash Geek Squad and Best Buy all you want, but just think about one thing... if they are so horrible and people know nothing that work in Geek Squad, then how are they so successful. People can whine all they want about how much smarter they are than me, but I like my job and Geek Squad/Best Buy are not going to go away.

- chris86wm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0dang, still not up. somebody please make a mirror up upload them to a torrent site.
- primetime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0nah..the guys who work for Weak Squad are morons..if they were as smart as the rest of the techs in the world then they would be making more than $8 hr..
- Nullifidian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yes, completely useless and not really funny.
wish there was an undigg option.... - dexter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I can't get them to work either. I am a n00b. What's a mirror?
- Sazime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Look in a mirror, it will show you a n00b. And for those of you touting GS, you have to remember that in a company of that many people, the morons represent you. Sad but true. It's those nimrods that make you look bad, no matter how good you may be at your job. I work retail, I know how this works.

- fugitivALiEN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0links aren't working, does anyone have links to mirrors of these files?
- MitchC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I am not against Geek Squad. It is a great and innovative service. Obviously, many people on Digg are not going to use the service, but think of the people who would. I know my Mother won't be opening up her case to replace a north bridge chipset fan anytime soon.
- hittman007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hmm interesting, people love bashing whoever is on top don't they. The fact of the matter is there is a reason that the people who are on top are on top.
When it comes to knowledge and ability, there are people in the Geek Squad that can match the knowledge and abilites of anyone here.
That being said, its interesting what some customers expect Best Buy to do, some of these expectations are down right funny.
Its interesting how little most of the posters in this group know about what we auctually do. For instance, if a wireless router was set up by the Geek Squad there encryption IS enabled. The routers that your getting with no encryption are almost always set up by the home user that thinks they can do the jobs themselves, or their cousine's son's friend who thinks they know what they are doing. Also, $79 is not just format c:, in fact it covers much more than that last (and rarely used, in my store anyway) resort.
But in the end you believe what you will, its your life. - christine16, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If you guys at the Geek Squad are so good how come you all call and come to the store asking me for advice on networking? I'd also like to add if you all were so good then you wouldn't send me all your laptop hardware repairs, apparently you can't take a laptop apart and solder on a right angle power connector.
I did once prank call the geek squad asking them to help me configure my new router. (I maybe shouldn't admit this) When they asked what kind of router I said, Cisco Pix firewall. Their response "We only support Linksys routers."
I support every type of router under the sun at my company (yes, I do Cisco), I build servers that cost more than I make in 3 months and implement them in an existing environment without any loss of company data or downtime. Yet when my customers need a spyware removal we charge anywhere from 45-90 dollars. (Smitfraud sufferers usually get stuck with the 90 dollar charge, most often it's 45.)
The best part, I don't have to wear that dumb outfit. - timro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the downloads dont work... whos ever heard of cash money uploads???
- gookie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0***** hilarious!!!!!
- ericesque, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why does this keep getting dugg? It's lame. The quality of the pranks are on par with Homestarrunner's, yet they lack the spontaneity and originality hence making these geek squad pranks boring and ameturish. Pranking a receptionist by asking them technical questions is stupid. Not Dugg. Not even close.

WHO IS GENERAL FAILURE? IS HE THE TOP GUY? - SystemError, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0LOL Best Buy Sucks
- mr_n00b, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That Hacking Gibson stunt was too funny. I couldn't stop laughing.
- Wartex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Damn, I feel kinda sorry for the geeks. Even their superior intelligence and computer-knowledge can't solve these problems...
- shawgo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0not very funny. But when they got the actual agents on the phone they seemed like they are helpful. But 79 bucks? wow. That's worse than the 10 50 I charge to replace watch batteries.
- Loie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+020 or 30 an hour? from best buy? yeah right... i bet they get like 10
- PSUstoekl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the fan one is pretty great... how he keeps kicking it.
kinda how i feel whenever i walk into a best buy. - stickyboot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0YARER!!! hahahaa! THIS IS FUGIN FunY!!!

- PsycoMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0My god is that what they all sound like?
- spectre_25gt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If I got the call about the bad fan I think I'd be pretty close to calling up a psychiatric ward to have the kid committed. "I'm gonna plug it in and see if it works." Brilliant, lol.
- J-roc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Not really that funny, so meh. Gay Porn removal was my favorite of the few I listened too.
They want enough for just simply formatting a computer, 79 bucks is outrageous. Best Buy must be making a good amount of money off of them considering the Techs probably only make 20 to 30 bucks an hour I would guess. - spaceb0y, on 10/12/2007, -0/+020 to 30 bucks on hour? ...I wish... Oh, and we're not all completely clueless. Now most of the people answering the phone? Yes. But it's not their job to know anything about computers.
- stickyboot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0FUNNY!!!! The later ones are MUCH BETTER!!!
