- qubitz, on 12/01/2008, -7/+366Can't say I'm gonna notice...
- riggs32, on 12/02/2008, -4/+147i never understood why kevin always promoted his twitter on diggnation but never really mentioned pownce.
- sewalsh, on 12/01/2008, -6/+111Has Kevin ever come out and said that Pownce has been a complete failure? Coz if he hasn't, now would be a good time.
- jlimon, on 12/02/2008, -6/+88To rid the world of another useless social networking site.
- sockpuppets, on 12/02/2008, -1/+80Because twitter actually has users.
- EricAugu, on 12/02/2008, -2/+67It's there, in the threaded comment you posted in. Welcome to the internets!
- inactive, on 12/02/2008, -7/+71WHAT? Where's my $20 pro refund.
- sockpuppets, on 12/02/2008, -4/+64Pownce- the Social Networking Site for Cats!™
- digmystuff, on 12/01/2008, -2/+61it had some cool features but twitter already has its hand wrapped firmly around that demographic... fail whale and all.
- redcard, on 12/02/2008, -2/+51For the patents / technology.
- redcard, on 12/02/2008, -3/+46Sorry, no.
But you get a free year of Typepad.
Go you :) - Nothlit, on 12/02/2008, -2/+43That's the risk you take when you give money to startups.
- Disparity, on 12/02/2008, -3/+41Kevin... I don't see you digging this one...
- slackor, on 12/02/2008, -5/+39why acquire something to just shut it down?
- Nothlit, on 12/02/2008, -4/+29[citation needed]
- digmystuff, on 12/01/2008, -3/+26I always felt like there was alot of spam on pownce...
- anagoge, on 12/02/2008, -2/+23Can anyone truly say they didn't see this coming? From the moment it was launched there was nothing but backlash against it on Digg.
- inactive, on 12/02/2008, -3/+24the only time i ever heard of this was one day, when i was really bored, i looked at kevin's profile. i didn't know what pownce was and figured it to be some california *****. then i learned what it was, and still did not give a *****.
- pitdog, on 12/02/2008, -9/+29stupid name
- Pinasco, on 12/02/2008, -5/+23Pownce had the features just not the cool.
- alexkball, on 12/02/2008, -1/+18I bet he feels like an idiot.
- mattletron, on 12/02/2008, -5/+22Just to highlight one issue that may have lead to this failure, I hadn't ever heard of pownce :(
I'm sure I'm not the only one. - sockpuppets, on 12/02/2008, -1/+17It's spin for "Pownce couldn't get traction even though we pimped it on digg so now we all got jobs at six apart in exchange for giving it to them."
- liquisoft, on 12/02/2008, -0/+15Competing with Twitter in a market where nobody knows how to actually make money isn't really such a good idea.
Also, who uses Pownce? - ThisCommentSux, on 12/02/2008, -1/+15Next up: "I've got your nose!"
- inactive, on 12/02/2008, -4/+18Pownce? i think i remember when it was annnownced
- thomascj, on 12/02/2008, -1/+15maybe pownce would have taken off if he had given away free stuff to people for "following" him.
i never did receive that t-shirt he promised. dick. - jlimon, on 12/02/2008, -1/+13No it wasn't - it didn't offer anything original or really useful. It was just a way to show off..
- skjalff, on 12/02/2008, -1/+12And now that I have, I still don't care
- shanesype, on 12/02/2008, -3/+14if it was co-founded by kevin rose why didn't he plug it into diggnation every episode instead of his twitter
- e2superman, on 12/02/2008, -10/+20Because they have a marketing agreement with Twitter. i.e. they make $$ (think product placement).
- dafragsta, on 12/02/2008, -1/+11O'Doyle Rules!
- sq2shooter, on 12/02/2008, -1/+11I got an account at Pounce near the beginning. I moved away from it eventually as the whole concept behind Twitter/Pounce really doesn't interest me that much. By chance I went through my bookmarks about a week ago and went back to Pounce for the first time in over 6 months. Of all my "friends" on there (39 total), not one was still posting. They had all left. Pounce looked to have died about 4 or 5 months ago but they just refused to bury it then.
- diggerpleez, on 12/02/2008, -2/+11This is the part where I make a witty comment and hope that Leah Culver finally notices me!
- DjOverEZ, on 12/02/2008, -1/+10No, you're thinking of Purrrnce. http://www.purrrnce.com/
- aDJsavedmylife, on 12/02/2008, -1/+10Some Internet.
- JoshuaLowe, on 12/02/2008, -3/+12Powned
- blcarmadillo, on 12/02/2008, -0/+9At first when I saw that graph of traffic I was thinking, man they're doing a lot better than I thought. Then I realized that pownce was the blue at the bottom that I didn't notice.
- whiteguysamurai, on 12/02/2008, -2/+11To integrate it's technology into livejournal.
- Jeremyz0r, on 12/02/2008, -2/+11From the graph.. it looks more like 500,000:1.
- RobotBuddha, on 12/02/2008, -1/+10I think it's a pity. On a technological and design level it was pretty cool. Just wasn't significant enough beyond twitter to make difference though.
- alphabetagaga, on 12/02/2008, -0/+9I was wondering why you disappeared so quickly.
- dashdingo, on 12/02/2008, -1/+9And nothing of value was lost.
- Barackalypse, on 12/02/2008, -1/+9My guess, they gave it a shot but it became clear Pownce wasn't getting enough traction so Rose found someone to buy it on the cheap to save face and prevent it from being a money sink that drains his resources. Six Apart gets some publicity and some new users, everybody wins.
- Tarmanydyn, on 12/02/2008, -0/+8That's because he already dugg this one: http://digg.com/tech_news/Six_Apart_Welcomes_Pownc ...
- inactive, on 12/02/2008, -1/+9To save the almighty Kevin Rose from the shame of simply shutting down a site.
- davidlick, on 12/02/2008, -0/+8Hang on to it in the hopes that one day it will be valuable, like a baseball card?
- cerulean86, on 12/02/2008, -1/+8It's like people think we should care just because of Kevin.
- inactive, on 12/02/2008, -0/+7haha, sucker!
- djdingo, on 12/02/2008, -7/+14WTF is pownce?
