- EvilAnimator, on 05/08/2008, -7/+82What if Kevin Rose made a social networking site and nobody came?
- JordanM85, on 05/08/2008, -13/+70I still see no reason to ever use Pownce.
- Marglar, on 05/08/2008, -14/+65breaking news: nobody uses or gives a ***** about pownce
- masterc, on 05/08/2008, -8/+50Pownce? What's Pownce?
- ElPachuco, on 05/08/2008, -4/+37Wow, that's a lot. Now I can send one of those Godspeed You Black Emperor! songs.
- bbliss17, on 05/08/2008, -0/+27This is nothing...there are sites out there where you can upload gigs and even ones that allow you unlimited upload amounts.
- DuxDucis, on 05/08/2008, -5/+29250mbs for Pro file sizes... nice, but I now wonder that one of the major incentives to upgrade your account are now gone - 100mb is pretty good for most people.
- wukillabee, on 05/08/2008, -10/+31this is SPAM
i can share around 500mb with megaupload and like 2 gigabytes if im a "pro" rapidshare user...
buried.. - dburka, on 05/08/2008, -2/+21The performance issues aren't related to bandwith and I promise you that we're working on it. Thanks so much for your patience and for contributing as a pro.
- inactive, on 05/08/2008, -0/+17The internet?
- jaredvolkl, on 05/08/2008, -4/+19I dugg up your comment because it made me laugh, but in reality I don't think Kevin spends much time with Pownce. He's too busy with Digg and Rev3.
- sockpuppets, on 05/08/2008, -0/+1516 pownces in a pownd.
- ralphthemagi, on 05/08/2008, -1/+16Per file.
- fuckingusername, on 05/08/2008, -2/+16oh yeah front page stuff for sure
- dOOBiEx213, on 05/08/2008, -9/+20Really? A whopping 100mb?
- thomashawk, on 05/08/2008, -5/+15I love using Pownce to share mp3s with my friends. I also love that I can publish my best Flickr/Zooomr photos there.
- RomulusX86, on 05/08/2008, -0/+9The MP3 sharing is great, you know, for those legal tunes you made. ;)
- Stomper622, on 05/08/2008, -4/+13or twitter or (insert name of micro-blogging site here).
- frebro, on 05/08/2008, -2/+9Pownce's primary goal right now is to gather users because of the competition from Jaiku, Twitter and similar services. The ability to share files over Pownce is really what sets it apart from the others, so I believe this was a smart move.
- RomulusX86, on 05/08/2008, -1/+8Now that they have the 100mb file size for non-pro users (I'm a student, so can't really afford the pro account) you can upload raw video files and send it to an editor across the world, Pownce makes it very efficient to work on projects. I think too many people take it for a Twitter clone, and miss the whole media aspect behind it.
- RudeTurnip, on 05/08/2008, -0/+7It gives you the thrill of letting people stalk you....I'm almost certain!
- AshTR, on 05/08/2008, -2/+9http://filedropper.com - 5 gig max
There was even a whole Digg story on it. - stradv16, on 05/08/2008, -4/+10leah culver sure is cute
- JasonMath, on 05/08/2008, -0/+6You can also use WinRAR to split your video into 100 MB parts.
- underburn, on 05/08/2008, -6/+12Does this mean pownce will actually work when I go to it now?
- greekgoat91, on 05/08/2008, -1/+6no, for sticking it to the music industry
- kipmartin, on 05/08/2008, -4/+9wow! an advertisement disguised as a Digg! Dugg down for making Digg just a bit more boring!
- gmailgeoff, on 05/08/2008, -6/+11As a pro user, I worry that he performance issues preventing me from reliably being able to post even simple updates from the web interface weren't addressed before committing more bandwidth to increased file size allowances.
That said, I have many good things to say about Pownce. Pro membership is inexpensive and helps support a wonderful team of people there - so consider it a donation to a good cause if you can't justify it as a need. - incd, on 05/09/2008, -1/+5I just don't get why should I use Pownce? I have IRC and instant messaging clients that are able to send files.
- kidcodea, on 05/08/2008, -1/+4u mean per .rar? ;)
- Maver1c, on 05/08/2008, -0/+3I agree. I'd use pownce to share files to my friends but hell, I can send a 10gb bluray .mkv movie over AIM...So why bother.
- Tony611, on 05/09/2008, -0/+3this is digg, not 4chan you idiot
- doctordbx, on 05/09/2008, -2/+5Wow... Pownce isn't working out, so we're going to turn it into a pirate site.
Good idea boy! - fumpt, on 05/08/2008, -0/+3Examples?
- iainharper, on 05/09/2008, -0/+2or Twatter as I prefer to call it
- fumpt, on 05/08/2008, -2/+4Agree that more is better, but 100 MB (or even 250) is only a handful of raw (or even compressed) video frames. I don't think Pownce provides a serious file sharing platform for video projects bigger than short YouTube clips.
- madk, on 05/08/2008, -1/+3Blog spam spamming blog spam.
- sdcarter, on 05/09/2008, -3/+5I hate to say it; but I think that's what Pownce is. I signed up right after it was announced because I was curious and I thought it might be interesting. Since then, I've successfully invited four of my friends. None of us actually used Pownce. In fact, until an article about Pownce hit front page the other day, we'd all but completely forgotten about Pownce.
It's a great idea; I just don't see it going anywhere near mainstream. - MrTito, on 05/09/2008, -0/+2I don't think he spends too much time with Digg anymore either.
- skeeterbug84, on 05/09/2008, -5/+7I would have thought Pownce would have died by now. Too bad it hasn't.
- needcaffeine, on 05/09/2008, -0/+2uploading a 10gb or 1gb file seems rather arsine, how often do you really need a 10gb file? Ok on a LAN, but on a WAN/Internet?
- g33kfu, on 05/08/2008, -0/+2Rapidshare
- PueSi, on 05/09/2008, -1/+2They are the only users...
- EvilFerret, on 05/08/2008, -0/+1Was planning on posting about it, they were giving away free lifetime gold memberships out to Digg members (Although it was really for everyone.....). Looks like they stopped doing it now, but still $10/month for 5GB uploads and 250GB of storage is awesome. Damn, should have made more accounts and sold them off.....
- The_Red_Monkey, on 05/08/2008, -1/+2I signed up for pownce but I as well see little use for it.
- kenvsryu, on 05/08/2008, -0/+1But don't you want to be a brown noser?
- hakz, on 05/09/2008, -2/+3I've signed up but never used it. No one I know is interested in joining :( . .They are happy with facebook, hi5, etc.
- kenvsryu, on 05/08/2008, -0/+1digg spam tastes better and girves you girth.
- kidcodea, on 05/08/2008, -3/+4or mogwai...
