haha ohh man...who doesnt love limits and probabiliies!!! mathspeak rules... - pbones, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You know he's not a "real" Baldwin, right? Granted, he's better than all but Alec, but still.
- focalrecursion, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Pretty good list of movies and the bad science contained within. I always enjoyed reading

To bad it doesn't get updated as much as it used to in the past. - bluehouse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I know I've read the line "Although Proof won praise for some accurate math-speak, anyone familiar with probability and academia would tell you that the chance of two intellectuals as attractive as Jake Gyllenhaal and Gwyneth Paltrow working in the same program approach zero" somewhere. Did Pop Sci steal it from someplace or did I read it at Pop Sci before?
- fugitivALiEN, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The Island was a VERY good movie, the advertizing for it was terrible, and the name alone is confusing. It's no wonder it got buried at the boxoffice. I'll use my post here to digg it back up. you'll enjoy it. It's got just enough romance to interest the women folk if you need to do any convincing... the go fast DUB edition police cars and explosions make up for any emotion that may try and rub off on the guys though ;)
- astrotrain, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Bawh...got better things to do then find that Batman won for best tights award. The movie was good in my book and also in a few others who I know who saw it.
I don't need a star studded awards thingy to tell me that it was good and I should go see it. So a movie won oscars and its great. Thats not making me shell out the $9.00 to go see it. - chimpski, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Pretty neat. I think digg should give out awards. Best news stories of the year, best non sequitur site... that kinda stuff. It seems kinda silly, but I would rather like to see what we all think is the best in any category.
- vonskippy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3PopSci - stick to your Viagra ads and let REAL science magazines handle the science. If you want to critique something, just look to the ads in the back of your magazine - more fluff and marketing hype then ANY movie.
- dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Fun read, though I wish there were a little more.
My geek award? Best Use of a Baldwin for Firefly! - dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2How disappointing! Now to ritualistically set my DVD of Firefly ablaze! Double double, toil and trouble...
- Cerberus047, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you like that type of stuff see "alone in the dark"
- persecuted, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very interesting, but i fail to comprehend who at pop sci thought it would be a good idea to make some Oscar commentary.
- Nesh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How about Firefly for "Best Film From a Series Killed by Suits With No Taste or Vision." Or maybe "Best Space Opera Featuring Cowboy Space Pirates."
- BigBlueOx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have to agree with you, I did not renew my subscription mainly because it seemed like the magazine mostly concentrated on the best and most innovative ways that the defense department has found to kill, or to make killing people easier. wow. If you want real science I recommend Discover or Scientific American. Popular science is more of the pop than the science.
- icexe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2taht article left me wanting more..
- NineTailedFox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The Island was not as bad as I thought it would be, and in fairness, the idea that we'd make cost-effective organ farms, or that lack of sensory and emotional stimuli would produce a less viable kidney, is a little more plausible than the notion that we'd make a practical (or necessary) power source for entities which had mastered fusion.
Having said that it was better than I was expecting, with each twist it became progressively less good than it had seemed to be. It was visually stunning, though (I wondered when the Wallypower yacht was going to make it into a film), and I'm pretty much resigned to accepting that now, as set and prop design seems to be where most of the creativity goes in modern SF cinema. Sure as sugarplums doesn't seem to be going into the screenplays. - ShadowMarth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This is incredibly old. You may not know it, but it is very, very, very old.
- Schmitty, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2This is like the 5th PopSci article I've seen up recently, and they are all from their latest issue! I smell a troll...
- funkytaco, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Serenity should have made it to the Oscars.
- namwob, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0This is cool
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+0what about the guyver *spelling* that was a good movie
