- WalesAlex, on 02/04/2008, -5/+71***** the Police.
And the IFPI and the BPI.
Oh, and the RIAA. - justahuman, on 02/04/2008, -2/+56we love you Alan Ellis for giving us OiNK :(
- blubloblu, on 02/04/2008, -7/+57I hope he's ok, the charges he's accused of are completely false and should be thrown out of court.
*Insert obligatory ***** the IFPI/RIAA here* - bwinebarger, on 02/04/2008, -4/+37I'm sure British law enforcement has better things to do. For example, murderers or rapists just to name a few. It's beyond ridiculous that this is being dragged on any longer.
- SaladCactusKing, on 02/04/2008, -4/+29Trent Reznor talks about how he's a big fan of OiNK, so surely he'll use his millions of dollars and star power to help defend Alan Ellis...right?..right?
- Protoss, on 02/04/2008, -2/+21They've got nothing, and this proves it. The cops are just stalling...
- acatzr800, on 02/04/2008, -3/+17Might as well add the MPAA in there as well
- Kurlumbenus, on 02/04/2008, -1/+14...you're 12, aren't you?
- iRelinquish, on 02/04/2008, -3/+13Long live the hydra
- SaladCactusKing, on 02/04/2008, -2/+11If I had lots and lots of money and spoke out about how the industry that gave me lots and lots of money is destroying itself internally would I give money and time to defend someone who I felt was doing the right thing? As opposed to another mansion? yeah.
- inactive, on 02/04/2008, -3/+11University of "lalalaal I can't hear you"!
- gradivus, on 02/04/2008, -3/+11Its the best place to start.
- phyburn, on 02/04/2008, -2/+9The music industry needs to adapt to the new planing ground, suing people isn't going to stop us...
- wezman2k, on 02/04/2008, -5/+10kill corporate america.
- inactive, on 02/04/2008, -6/+10Yes...only murderers and rapists should be prosecuted.
- Kloud, on 02/05/2008, -0/+4Best not to correct someone until their edit timer is up.
- lazyfisherman, on 02/04/2008, -1/+5You are a fine man, SaladCactusKing.
- InsaneMachine, on 02/04/2008, -1/+4Would you spend that much in lawyer fees for someone else?
- WalesAlex, on 02/05/2008, -0/+3No.
- s0crates82, on 02/04/2008, -2/+5OiNK has fallen, but several others have risen. This isn't over.
When possible, buy music directly from the artist. When possible, boycott the RIAA. - inactive, on 02/04/2008, -9/+12What law school did you go to?
- WalesAlex, on 02/05/2008, -0/+2As it happens I have been burgled and they're pretty useless.
So as I was saying... ***** the Police! - Intervention, on 02/04/2008, -6/+8Stupid ***** pigs. :)
- Amything, on 02/05/2008, -0/+2Does this mean he will be locked up to the 6th of may?
- rolmos, on 02/05/2008, -1/+3I smell waffles...
- kylere, on 02/05/2008, -0/+2Yes, but I am man enough to put my money where my mouth is, and while I respect Trent musically, I question his commitment level past that of any random Digger
- inactive, on 02/06/2008, -0/+2I miss thee, OiNK =(
- FatalRemedy, on 02/06/2008, -0/+2I don't think Alan Ellis ever thought what he was doing was legal, did any of us?
That being said, if your not in large metropolitan area or don't have access to an independent record store, chances are you won't even be able to buy any music that isn't fairly mainstream.
I can list off countless bands that I've purchased albums directly from labels because I could listen to them from oink. - EmSixTeen, on 02/09/2008, -0/+1"what if their label is a decent label that pays them well and is not a member of the RIAA?"
..
"When possible, boycott the RIAA."
Learn to read. - YourMom1, on 02/04/2008, -0/+1He's out on bail, hence the bail date.
UK and USA also use words differently. - turpenine, on 02/04/2008, -2/+3it stopped me for like three days.
- cliffski, on 02/04/2008, -1/+2and that doesnt give you the right to ignore the wishes of the other 99%
- inactive, on 02/04/2008, -0/+1Bail date? What bail date?
He's not in jail. Or are they referring to something else? - EmSixTeen, on 02/09/2008, -0/+1Sigh.
- Plughie, on 02/04/2008, -1/+2The least they could do is refund his bail or take it to trial immediately.
- danjwray, on 02/05/2008, -0/+1linux distros? You don't trust them from... uh.... i dunno.... the people that make them? And you think there are linux distros on a scene tracker? What a lame excuse for begging. Maybe someone else will send an invite to puttsy_r@yahoo.com but I won't.
Besides, it's against the rules to invite people you don't know. - cliffski, on 02/05/2008, -1/+2so you hate the police? you will be the first person to cry like a baby for them if you are ever robbed or burgled or attacked.
- EmSixTeen, on 02/09/2008, -0/+1.. Do you even know what bail is?
- blubloblu, on 02/16/2008, -0/+1The accusations are that he made "100's of thousands of pounds" from a "pay-for membership" site that was the internet's center for pre-release music.
- cliffski, on 02/05/2008, -1/+2what if their label is a decent label that pays them well and is not a member of the RIAA? still steal it?
- ninjasenses, on 02/05/2008, -0/+1***** the police commin' straight from the underground...
- rhintintin, on 02/05/2008, -0/+1He did not distribute music the users of his site did.
Get a clue. - inactive, on 02/04/2008, -2/+3They are playing out.
- rhintintin, on 02/05/2008, -0/+1A great site like Oink goes down and you think people are going to give you an invite to TL begging on here? It will be someone stupid inviting someone begging on a site like this that let the MPAA into Oink in the first place.
- rhintintin, on 02/05/2008, -0/+0and who says users of oink dont give money to the artists? By attending concerts and buying cds (the good ones, after I have downloaded them- in fact I cant remember the last album I bought that I hadnt downloaded first) I feel i'm already giving artists a fair old whack of my hard earned cash. We're not made of money though!
- RamzParry, on 02/05/2008, -1/+1If only the record companies would embrace the kind of innovation that OiNK brought and adapt to growing trends instead of trying to crush them out of fear we could avoid this kind of maltreatment to good people like Alan Ellis who are merely satisfying needs of everyday people and not wealthy corporate powerhouses. It's a shame that the record companies keep stabbing the people that made them wealthy in the back, but it will come back around to them and we will win.
- thepaine, on 02/04/2008, -3/+3Never Forget and help out!
http://www.cafepress.com/neverforgetoink
- thanks - cliffski, on 02/05/2008, -1/+1no they are not. try looking up 'intent' in a legal text book.
- smartj, on 03/25/2008, -0/+0Can't Alan counter sue the industry and the police for deleting files off his servers? Plus, what about downtime? I'd sue for that to. :)
- cliffski, on 02/05/2008, -2/+2maybe some of the money should actually be given to the artists?
