- brothersaul, on 04/06/2008, -0/+8Only the beginning really. These guys write good books, not Hemingway maybe, but good fun reads. That is not what makes them unusual. What makes them unusual is they don't put a wall between them and their listeners/readers. I met these guys and it was not after long lines and paying someone money to do so. They have literally thousands of fans before seeing print and they do it by recognizing the power talking to your fans has. They recognize if you give stuff to the folks who will be your hardcore fans the will evangelize your product(or in this case your book). They recognize the internet is the method of interaction for the 21st century and marketing is not about ads in magazines anymore and more about letting people see what you have and letting them decide they like it. They will not be the last to cross over.
- zaphodbblx, on 04/06/2008, -1/+9Daily, people Like Harwood and Sigler are remaking medias future. Budgets are tight and people can't afford to put out 20-30 dollars for something that might be a total stinker. Pod casting and limited pdf distro (even if it won't be the whole book in the future)goes a long way to assuaging those fears and making the dollars fly out of consumers pockets. Book people NEED to have the real book if they love it..thats why I'm so broke this month!
- Nougat, on 04/06/2008, -0/+7Book people.
- Ozzy86, on 04/06/2008, -0/+5These are just a couple of the amazing people out there doing this; but they are 2 of the best!!
- JaanL, on 04/06/2008, -0/+4Hardwood and Sigler just plainly make some good entertainment great stuff for the commute, I then buy the books give back some love! Very good stuff I also like J.C. Hutchins and Mark Yoshimoto Nemcoff it is not that it is free so much! It is I am aware of their podcasting, it is just so cool that it available! Then I buy the books and read them! Pdf are not so important to me. I like the art from the Pdf but I will go get the book, Jaan host of www.jaansworld.com

- Midtowner, on 04/06/2008, -0/+3Do you feel better now?
- WinnemuccaMac, on 04/06/2008, -0/+3a great place to get free and legal audiobooks: http://www.podiobooks.com
I'm a fan of the QuarterShare series, Forever Fifteen, and Seventh Son. - scottsigler, on 04/07/2008, -0/+3Hey if you're going to slam my writing, couldn't you at least list a quote of MY writing? Sorry, bro, that's pretty ***** lazy.
- mavjop, on 04/06/2008, -0/+3Awesome stuff. Rather a good article! More enlightened than most, and the SF Chronicle gets quite a lot of readers ... and my guess is sfgate.com gets far, far more. Fantastic!
- NycterisA, on 04/06/2008, -0/+3Solid, entertaining & well-written (but not for the weak of stomach. I had to bail out!)
- jiglenn, on 04/06/2008, -0/+3These are two guys that are helping to change the face of publishing and media as we have known it.
- GlennRubenstein, on 04/06/2008, -1/+3Good for these guys! It's also interesting to me that the Internet has had such an impact on the return of serialized fiction. Podcasting is a great throwback to the world of old radio drama, and online video offers a new twist on the classic cinematic serial format. Television has even re-embraced the format with shows like 24 and Lost telling a larger story in smaller installments, which is a nice change of pace from the self-contained sitcom or aimless narrative of a never ending soap opera.
- Aeuta, on 04/06/2008, -0/+2They should have probably mentioned Podiobooks.com...I am not a fan of sigler...mostly because I listen to podiobooks during the night and well...I would be a little freaked out...
But anyway...there are other books released similarly 7th Son being the prime example....Shadowmagic is the other REALLY great book that has been released online as a podcast that I have listened to.... - tjobe, on 04/06/2008, -0/+2My favorite is the superhero novel _Playing For Keeps_ by Mur Lafferty of Geek Fu Action Grip fame. The podcast can be found at http://www.playingforkeepsnovel.com/. Her take on the genre is both compelling and original. She not only provides free audio, but also free pdf files of every episode as well as lots of other goodies. So listen or read, but don't miss it.
- Flashman, on 04/06/2008, -0/+2It helps that Sigler gives his books away, but the 'secret sauce' in his success is his ability to be a killer marketer - he's really good at getting people to buy into his message, stick around for the next bit of content, spread the word to their friends, and convert more people.
- AF-Geek, on 04/06/2008, -0/+2From Real Genius:
"...I am only saying that because I care - there are a lot of decaffeinated brands on the market that are just as tasty as the real thing." - mugwumpz, on 04/06/2008, -0/+27th Son was very well done. I also enjoy Mur Lafferty's stuff.
- zaphodbblx, on 04/06/2008, -0/+1lets see Siggies book retails for 24.95 Jim Butchers book was 23.85 on amazon.com and I just pre ordered Matt Wallaces NEXT FIX for 33 bucks, so like nougat says book people. Usually I wait for the paperback but for Sigler I'm gonna splurge
- zaphodbblx, on 04/06/2008, -0/+1what does this have to do with the subject
- u16085, on 04/06/2008, -0/+1More of siglers stuff at www.scottsigler.com
- JudgeMonkey, on 04/06/2008, -0/+1The strangest things just set some people off, don't they?
- darny, on 08/23/2008, -0/+1Sigler owns you.
- RainDrizzleFog, on 04/06/2008, -1/+1It's a Rick-Roll. And getting old when using no imagination, such as this user.
- GawtMilk, on 04/06/2008, -3/+3Who the hell pays $30 for a book thesedays?
- VAMastermind, on 04/26/2008, -0/+0Love this stuff. Yes im a junkie. I think this is the future and i hope Sigler, Harwood, and other keep doind what they're doing, its going to pay off.
- inactive, on 04/06/2008, -2/+1comply or die
- lmlstudio, on 04/06/2008, -1/+0I have enjoyed many new and diverse stories because of podcasting! And been exposed to the brave new world of publishing!
- Midtowner, on 04/06/2008, -4/+2Why do I welcome a recession? Well.. on the one hand, I might lose my life savings. On the other hand, after I finish law school next year, I'll owe the student loan folks upwards of $100,000. If the value of the dollar sinks and wages eventually go up to reflect that change, I'll have a much easier time paying off that debt. For most Americans who own homes, have debts, etc. this probably isn't such a bad thing. Sure, their house might temporarily lose some value, but in the long run, they'll be able to pay it off faster.
- RegalGSX, on 04/06/2008, -3/+0Imagine your mom getting raped by a kangaroo. How's that for imagination?
- devzer0, on 04/06/2008, -6/+2It's a good idea. Too bad Sigler's writing is worse than the worst Dan Brown novel you've ever read.
"Mike knew that under Gail's nightgown she was completely naked." - RegalGSX, on 04/06/2008, -7/+0Excerpt from the book: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3AdFA6WWJ7E
