- gbarberi, on 07/10/2008, -5/+36Plurk = Twitter + Myspace - Downtime
Visually, it looks like it was designed by a 4th grader. And, journalists and News Agencies will unlikely move to it - probably many bloggers as well. They'll move to Friendfeed instead. - zephc, on 07/11/2008, -1/+2610:53: I have to go to the bathroom
10:54: I am wiping up
10:55: I am back at my computer, eating Doritos
10:56: I got a can of Mountain Dew
11:02: I'm bored, I think I'm going to rub one out
11:02: That was good, but I'm still bored. Maybe I will organize my hentai collection. - cyber49, on 07/10/2008, -4/+26I just joined Plurk today, but not liking it much so far. It's confusing compared to the "no thought required" of Twitter. Maybe I just have to play with it more...
- StevieJanowski, on 04/02/2009, -2/+23I was always a Twitter guy but being able to follow an entire conversation makes Plurk a more useful tool for me
- inactive, on 07/11/2008, -2/+18Plurk is like cocaine. Plus social networking. Minus illegality. Minus hot chicks.
- Rajaie, on 07/11/2008, -3/+18Plurk + Twitter = A huge waste of time
- gubatron2, on 07/10/2008, -2/+14Twitter vs Plurk? -> Ping.fm and do them all at once (including jaiku, identica, and whatever else comes out)
- Flashman, on 07/11/2008, -0/+11For any given number of friends on your list, Plurk is much more social. That's because on Twitter conversations typically happen within a circle of friends, but on Plurk they can happen across groups of friends more easily. For instance, this Plurk conversation about comma use would not happen the same way on Twitter: http://www.plurk.com/p/191uv
- mintblogger, on 07/11/2008, -0/+11I think plurk is one step ahead in many features, like thread conversations, but the horizontal timeline is confusing for new users. I still prefer twitter to network and socialize.
- killerofkiller, on 07/11/2008, -0/+10Reply button!
it's the cool thing to do - TheHappyRock, on 07/11/2008, -2/+11@thesupergeek - I think I have experienced about 5 minutes of downtime in a month - plus about 20 new features have rolled out since then. Twitter is down almost daily, sometime more.
Plurks' conversations suite me and so does it micro sytax and linking language. Heads and tails above twitter, just needs to grow. - ELLIS1128, on 07/11/2008, -2/+10This will never catch on.
- ericodom, on 07/10/2008, -3/+11Big on Plurk here. Love it! I run a show called PlurkCAST that is growing leaps and bounds. The conversation side of Plurk is unlike any other.
- FredFredrickson, on 07/11/2008, -1/+9When will you guys realize that nobody gives a ***** about 90% of the garbage you post on these idiotic websites?
- Chazzer3, on 07/11/2008, -0/+8Interesting, however, I find the timeline very confusing. And as usual, another new thing needs friends to move over to. I'll stick with twitter for a bit. Oh, and when I was trying to invite a friend, it didn't work, it went.... blank. I think that's downtime in a way. Hmmm.
- wild, on 07/11/2008, -0/+6I still don;t understand how any of these have a successful business model attached to them.
- gbarberi, on 07/11/2008, -0/+5That only works for people who "broadcast" items (either looking to elicit responses or not).
You can't engage in conversation through ping.fm because it doesn't poll the responses for that "ping" - StevieJanowski, on 04/02/2009, -1/+5Best comment I have seen in weeks.
- LeRenard, on 07/11/2008, -0/+4I still have never figured out what the heck to use these for. I'm guess I'm the old school sort of geek with no social life.. the few friends I do have don't use social networks.. so with things such as twitter I'm left thinking "I've got an account.. now what?"
- NikkiA, on 07/11/2008, -0/+4And its not an open-beta, you need a 'beta key', so meh.
(on that subject, wtf is google just sitting on jaiku with no new signups while twitter is falling apart???) - joaob, on 07/11/2008, -0/+4I think the MySpace comparisons were drawn based on the "4th grade" design and not the demographics of the members.
- Zenham, on 07/11/2008, -0/+4I think you meant to say:
http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2008/4/23/ - maxyRO, on 07/11/2008, -1/+5I'm a plurk man myself, I like the facts that it's far more interactive, stable and constantly adding new features.
- MilitaryVeteran, on 07/11/2008, -0/+3Anyone know if there are "nofollow" tags there? Just curious if the search engine robots crawl the content....... Suggestions?
- duckyinc, on 07/11/2008, -0/+3Not everyone lacks enough life to use twitter or any micro blogging services
- ChayD, on 07/11/2008, -1/+4Oh, not another one of these daftly named pointless-yet-inexplicably-successful social networking sites, shortly to be joined by:
Blort(TM) - Uses GPS and and live sound feeds to update your friends when you go to the bathroom on a turd by turd basis.
Flibble(TM) - Same as above, but for pee.
/gross, yes I know, but it's probably going to happen - KnightMareInc, on 07/11/2008, -0/+3twitter also has many more people than plurk.
- inactive, on 07/11/2008, -0/+3Obviously the people digging this story and commenting give a huge *****!
- joeolivas, on 07/11/2008, -0/+3http://www.plurk.com/m
- CrushThemTorg, on 07/11/2008, -2/+5Only on opposite day.
- microft, on 07/11/2008, -0/+2Just a suggestion: Use them all! Register with http://ping.fm and post to various social networks at once
- cgseller, on 07/11/2008, -0/+2Still no instant messaging though :( Once that goes online, I'll be calling for my peeps to switch.
- inactive, on 07/11/2008, -2/+4Plurk is ugly as hell.
Also it's clearly a futurespeak word, so they're just trying to take twitter's jerb. - asskicker32, on 07/11/2008, -0/+2I like it better because it provides more direction than twitter. I get sick of random thoughts...
- thesupergeek, on 07/11/2008, -3/+5plurk has just as much downtime....
- puppyfox, on 07/11/2008, -0/+2Interesting but... the eyes! The goggles, they do nothing!
- scabbers, on 07/11/2008, -2/+4English *****, do you speak it?
- Depravo, on 07/11/2008, -0/+2Don't exaggerate. Blogs are never THAT interesting.
- kuwan, on 07/11/2008, -0/+2White boxes on a black background makes my eyes bleed.
- ericodom, on 07/11/2008, -1/+3you mean... sorta... like Twitter?
- insanebrain, on 07/11/2008, -0/+1fail
- donutz, on 07/11/2008, -0/+1except you can't sign up for Jaiku.
- digitaltodd, on 07/15/2008, -0/+1plurk takes some getting used too but i enjoy it more than twitter because you can have an actual conversation. with twitter you are just pissing in the wind.
- insanebrain, on 07/11/2008, -0/+1plurk = twitter == ***** ?
- bwinc, on 07/11/2008, -0/+1I love plurk! It is confusing at first, but once you get the hang of it's fun. I see it more like msn/instant messaging because the reply feature works exactly like it. So I can have conversations with multiple people at once. When one topic gets old someone plurks something new and then a new conversation starts. :D
I can't live without it now... especially when I'm at my boring job... I talk to my friends while they're at work too. It's more discreet than having IMs all over my screen. :) - LeRenard, on 07/11/2008, -0/+1If that's what "good" plurking looks like, I'll sit this one out.
- HonoredMule, on 07/11/2008, -0/+1Could there possibly be a worse Web2.0-ey name?
- bjs3171, on 07/11/2008, -0/+1Corn kernals found. haven't had bbq in over 2 weeks, tho. weird.
- StevieJanowski, on 04/02/2009, -1/+2all the users went to Plurk
- webRat, on 07/11/2008, -0/+1FAIL WHALE, no cookie for you.
