- battleangel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Sorry for the blatant act of self-promotion. Despite thorough googling I couldn't come up with another source in English, so I linked my own blog post.

Free healthcare - No, but very subsidized
four weeks a year paid vacation - No, five weeks
no one gets married there - No. Sadly marriage is still popular and has legal and practical benefits
and the women are smokin' hot - Yes, they are ;) - Molnies, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Dugg!
Not that I will vote for them (being Swedish as I am) but this will hopefully start some funny debates at least =) - z.unit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i would so register with this party if i lived in sweden
- battleangel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2And for our Swedish readers, the source:
http://www.piratpartiet.se/ - zeth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes, The Pirate Bay is in Sweden. Also, the Swiss are from Switzerland. Us people from Sweden are Swedes.
I have to give it some thought, but I will probably sign this tomorrow. - Bogtha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If their aim is to abolish immaterial law, then how do they reconcile that with protecting privacy? After all that would be immaterial law, would it not?
I think this party would have much better support if they tried to reduce copyright law to something more sensible like ~15 years, to see what affect competition with a more contemporary public domain would have on the market, before jumping headlong into abolishing copyright altogether.
@NidStyles,
No, if anything is like communism, it's the state artificially propping up non-viable business models with things like copyright. Abolishing copyright is closer to the every-man-for-himself-style capitalism. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1wow! very nice! i swear i would join were i swedish. ***** world trade :)
- kungfustickman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"kungfustickman: hehe Swiss ain't Sweden :D"
Hmmm nevermind. Wait then who are the Swiss? Question from an American...
But seriously isn't the Pirates Bay based in Sweden? - burningmonk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I really want to live in Sweden. This is just another reason to an already long list. Free healthcare (true you pay higher taxes but still), four weeks a year paid vacation, no one gets married there (couples just live and have kids together, marriage is archaic), and the women are smokin' hot!

- mikeazorin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I'm moving to Sweden.
- TWiTarmy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"his noodlyness is most certainly pleased"
he certainly is. i shall now dress in my pirate regalia, inform the prophet and move to Sweden. - Matt2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1> Tired of corporations engaging in the racketeering of the developing world, stealing millennia old agricultural ideas and claiming them as their own? Do you feel that a few power hungry individuals and greedy corporate entities are infringing on YOUR privacy and integrity?
Right, because AS WE ALL KNOW, Valve software and Christina Agulera are involved in stealing milennia old agricultural ideas and staging grand conspiricies to control the worlds markets. Christ, don't people realize that Michael Jackson and John Carmack are in charge of oversight of the CIA's echelon project?
***** idiots. People like this give Sweden a bad name -- or at least a worse name.
Here's a clue kiddies, once you actually contribute something of worth to the world collective, THEN you come bitching to me about how you want everything to be free. Until then, sit down, shut the ***** up, and for the love of god PULL UP YOUR PANTS.
Free flow of information my sweet dick. More like babies in a candy store. - PirateFSM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1his noodlyness is most certainly pleased
- fantasticFlan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"the Brits were paying five times the ammount of taxes as we were. There were some other things but the main point is that America wasn't really justified in declaring independence"
Just barely missed it. It wasn't about the amount of taxes but taxation WITHOUT REPRESENTATION, even then, it was little more than a slogan and we declared Independence because we wanted to be independent and that was justification enough.
Also, this is awesome, I almost wish I was Swedish. - rebrad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Finally a Party I can support. I hope they start a US wing soon. The old tired politicians in the US are acting just alike. They support their buddies and the rich while either not paying attention or ***** the normal people.
- ever, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'll digg this since Sweden's a neighbouring country and the name "Pirate Party" sounds stupid as f*ck. In a funny way. Yes. 10% of the population with parrots in their shoulders.. peglegs... mmm..
++++ - b0rg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"Abolish immaterial law. Move away from WIPO and WTO. Support the free flow of information and stand up for people's privacy."
Proper grammar requires that you separate contradictions by at least two sentences. Good political style dictates that you should not claim to be on both sides of an argument in the same actual sentence. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I call OUT... {{{{{***** the industry}}}}}} and lets kill the 99 cents market and stop itunes, Sony and all the other labels this is not acceptable!
- bilton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Don't the Swiss do the most interesting thing. The Red Cross, Swiss Bank Accounts and now this."
Can't forget Army Knives and IKEA. - Double-Z, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Actually, Volvo is owned by Ford these days.
Lol @ the people who don't know the difference between the Swiss and the Swedish. - Philoushka, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0NidStyles has no idea WHAT communism is.
I, for one, welcome our Swedish-IP-free-for-all overlords! - drunkJerkface, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well, we all know that global warming is caused by the decline in pirates. Maybe it isn't too late to turn things around. http://www.venganza.org/
- MortenAaserud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0its up on wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pirate_Party
and they have now got 4751 signatures they only needed 1500
looks good so far and this is just the third day. - Bostonsox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I rather see crazy 'pirates' run something then corporate whores that run most things.
- KriLL3.2™, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Signed, I'm voting for them in the elections 2006 :)
- TWiTarmy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ drunkjerkface
I am a Pastafarian.
Anyway, for sociology, I did a project about global warming. In my keynote presentation i mentioned alternate theories and of course mentioned His Noodliness. - kungfustickman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm curious to see how this will turn out. While I think France's idea of legalized P2P makes absolutely no sense (the part where they collect a ISP tax makes no sense), Sweden might be on to something. We might actually get some people in legislature who know what they're talking about... Who knows, it's going to be a bumpy year.
- idiggit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0arrr, I was not hailed, arrr!
- bonlebon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0arghhh this is a party I will sign up for.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm all for the open-source movement. Making technology THAT expensive (like $1000) hinders us more than lets us progress technologically. Software should be traded and improved upon, which is why the open-source movement is so great. But when it comes to downloading music, it's a bit different. Some bands, like... say Green Day, are industrial bands that make music solely to make money. Other bands make music because they like to, or they think it's an art form, and most of the time, that's the music that's actually good. Those musical artists may not care if thier music is downloaded, but the industrial bands do. The RIAA and those industrial bands will do anything to make money off of the common person, including sueing an old woman who doesn't know how to work a computer. As I said before, I can't really make an opinion on the idea of a pirate party until everything they stand for is clearly defined, but I do think it's a step towards progress.
- hipsterelitist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Where can I go to donate?
- KyleGoetz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0In related news, all pharmaceutical companies in Sweden are leaving the country, swearing never to do business there again.
- lordmetroid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well you can register to your Pirate party http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pirate_Party_of_the_U.S. (List at bottom) if you are living in any country that do have newly started Pirate party of their own.
- Lynxpro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
Funny, but I think their political ancestry goes back to the U.K. with the Monster Raving Loony Party of Screaming Lord Sutch....
Here's their official party website.... A Party that lives up to its name as a party...
http://www.omrlp.com
I personally would love to see an American branch of the party. And to think Tony Blair gave a eulogy to Lord Sutch.... - lordmetroid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Umm the big ones already merged and moved out 6 years ago!
- TWiTarmy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Kind of like when those damn rebels were stealing when they stopped paying their taxes to mother England. Those bastards now have their own country and now continue to steal from the rest of the world!"
I'm an American and am currently taking an AP-US History class and to be perfectly honest, we were being cheap bastards, the Brits were paying five times the ammount of taxes as we were. There were some other things but the main point is that America wasn't really justified in declaring independence (though I'm not saying we should become Brits). - xurra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the leader is 30+ , he is not a kid!!
- noteventime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yay, and i live in Sweden...
There has been talk about this for quite a while on "piratbyrån", but i didn't think they would actually do it. - JAFFA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0YaaaRRR!! Best o' luck to 'em Hearties!
- degree, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0maddox should be the spokesperson
- Lutz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I was going to vote away the stupid socialists in Sweden but I may just change my mind if these guys succeed, even if I think removing the copyright is a bit harsh, I want to show the greedy music and movie industry that they don't make the rules, we do.
+digg - Complexium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yes, Volvo and IKEA are from Sweden not from Switzerland.
I'm happy with the laws in Norway:) Download = legal Upload = illegal
*Er glad i dere svensker med 10/10Mbit på DC++* - Scab, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Can't forget Army Knives and IKEA."
IKEA is swedish, not swiss. :) - abbott75, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I think that, as reward for taking the time to learn how, we should be allowed to download whatever we want without fear of punishment."
I agree:P - Lynxpro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
FantasticFlan, the American colonies were offered seats in Parliament by the British. The colonial leaders alligned with the terrorist Sons of Liberty organization rejected the offer. But of course, the winners write the history that the average joe remembers or avoids in the public educational system. - TWiTarmy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ fantasticFlan
true, but we were hardly being taxed so i thought it didn't apply too much. whatever, it's just my two cents. - cornfused, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yarr, me swedish hardies be flyin' the jolly roger, yarr!
