- JamesBondJr, on 01/12/2009, -1/+18That's an amazing bus, now as Kevin Rose once mentioned, maybe they should just load the thing with servers for a portable torrent experience :)
- say592, on 01/13/2009, -0/+12Something tells me this trial will be one part trial, one part crusade, and one part circus.
- awolfe91, on 01/12/2009, -2/+13Sweet bus!
- crazlunatic, on 01/12/2009, -1/+11wheres the pirate flag!
- TomGfromCanada, on 01/13/2009, -1/+11does it float?
- dragonrebornn, on 01/12/2009, -2/+11you are a pirate!
- Heidenreich12, on 01/13/2009, -1/+10for a group that was interested in buying their own island, you'd think they could get a better bus
- nsanidy, on 01/12/2009, -4/+11ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
- Jerky1312, on 01/13/2009, -0/+6It was pirated off of Somalia.
- xprojects, on 01/13/2009, -5/+9"As I’ve said many times before, we see The Pirate Bay as some sort of ongoing art project/performance."
...more like a debacle or spectacle. I'm guessing all the IRC and nntp warez providers are modern day 'artists,' as well? Give me a break. It's just piracy, portrayal of the tragedy and joy of the human condition is not on display here, this isn't exactly the story of Hamlet. I don't exactly remember Blackbeard going down as one of the world's great artists/thinkers.
They're abusing Sweden's lax laws the same way wealthy Americans do when they invest millions in private banks over there. In my opinion it's just a bunch of thieves blaming 'the man,' preaching revolution, and all the while pacifying their sheep with free entertainment. Steal it or don't, but if you try and explain it was for the greater good afterwards consider yourself an ass. - JasPruett, on 01/13/2009, -0/+4Long live TPB. A bunch of people complain about the movies, music and software that they track, but just think about all the other things they track that you can't find anywhere else. There is content that is currently part of the public domain that you can't get except through a torrent.
- CATSCEO2, on 01/13/2009, -2/+6Did they pirate the bus too?
- zeabu, on 01/13/2009, -0/+3in a way it's ironic.
But you have to start SOMEWHERE. You can't change a society from one day to another, in the way TPB wants. This world has to do with less greed, as it isgreed that makes some worker earn 14000 times less than the President of his company. That president wants us to believe that's for a risk, a risk he is actually not taking (golden handshakes, ability to start in another company and plunder that one too, after he let the first one go bankrupt, governement bail-out when things go wrong, but not letting that same governement have a say before things go wrong).
It is greed that causes the environmental problems too. - rterminator69, on 01/13/2009, -0/+3Did he say that on diggnation?
- xptoast, on 01/13/2009, -0/+3That would be the most awesome thing ever.
- Philbert, on 01/13/2009, -0/+2Really big on the side of the bus.
- dsmx, on 01/13/2009, -0/+2GET TO THE CHOPPA
- Philbert, on 01/13/2009, -0/+2Outside of Sealand waiting to board and conquer them?
- zeabu, on 01/13/2009, -0/+2To make a copy in a shop, you have to open the package. It's like drinking from a bottle before you pass the paydesk. Or eating the hamburger you bought outside, inside the shop.
It's called education (or lack of it). - bigdnl, on 01/13/2009, -0/+2I wanna drive it.
- vector86, on 01/13/2009, -0/+1Great so new movies and video games will have banner ads and pop-ups plastered over them as an alternative to making people pay for them.
- xptoast, on 01/13/2009, -0/+1Well xprojects...what do you do when something is no longer profitable? You find a way to make it profitable or move on. That is how life works. Southparkstudios is a great example of southpark making money but still allowing its fans to watch older episodes. You just have to find a way or deal with it. Such as if you were selling paper or something. What do you have to do to make money? You have to compete and do something different or just take what you can get and deal with it. Can't make money off everything. How about reselling of items? Is that really fair to the company who made it origianlly? If I get done with a video game and sell it to someone for ten bucks then I recoupe ten bucks and they get a deal of about 50 bucks off of the original. Sure the game companies get shafted on that sale but that is how life works. Just because you can dupe a few people into thinking something is stealing or wrong doesn't make it so. How about they go on a rampage and say that all used games but be resold at full price thus making it pointless when you could just buy the new copy for the same price. Perception is what makes the world go round. Got anymore facets in which you want elaborated on or should we just agree to disagree. I don't really care as nobody changes their mind unless something traumatic happens or they are forced to reevaluate the perception.
=) - vector86, on 01/13/2009, -0/+1The original argument was that (paraphrasing): Because no item is actually being removed, making a copy is not theft. Zeabu, your "counter-argument" didn't support\extend the original argument and instead created a new one. In the context of the original argument you didn't negate mine, or add anything of value. It IS called education, and in argumentation you don't have it.
- xptoast, on 01/13/2009, -0/+1Just because you thought of it doesn't mean it is yours. That is just bad thinking. It is like if me and you thought of the same thought. Whos' property is it? Sure it sucks that you thought of something novel and made it available and people made copies without giving you anything for your time and effort. Life sucks sometimes. Doesn't mean you screw someone else because you're pissed. I have thought of a lot of stuff. I have done plenty of creative works that I don't want ripped off. Still happens and I don't blame anyone because it's just a copy. Now if they claimed they made it or that nobody but them could make it then I would be pissed because they were restricting the flow of that creative work as well as using something that I thought of and banning my ability to give it away freely. If you don't want people to see, listen to, or use your stuff then don't show it to people that can reproduce that same work of art. That's like making up a word and not letting anyone else utter it. That would just be stupid.
Have a good day. =) - vector86, on 01/13/2009, -2/+3So I can walk into a bestbuy with my laptop, COPY some dvds and leave no problem. The people who produced the contents, spent the time filming, editing, etc. They won't mind because I'm simply making a copy and no "theft" has occurred. Same goes for filming in a theatre, I'm not stealing I'm just making a copy!
...right. - xprojects, on 01/13/2009, -0/+1xptoast, fine, wonderful, great. I'm not even going to attempt to negate what your saying, but riddle me this... Exactly how are you going to pay your rent on that methodology? The exchange of goods and services is the basis of civilization... it's hard to imagine any of these self-pronounced "pirates" as having jobs and paying bills and living in the real world.
- Ivorydrive, on 01/14/2009, -0/+1The bus really needs three giant sails mounted on the roof. Then they could even pull the "green energy" card and condemn the other party for burning gas to arrive at the courthouse.
- xptoast, on 01/13/2009, -2/+3It is not theft unless you steal the medium that the data is on. Copying is not taking the original. It's ok though. You can't convince people most times so I won't try to put a huge block of text to convert you. Enjoy your anger as I will enjoy my peace. =)
- xprojects, on 01/13/2009, -0/+1xptoast, I'm not sure life "just works" in any particular way, that's why we make up rules and laws to ensure everyone plays on the same field. In this, despite all the agreeing or disagreeing you and I could ever muster, the copy of copyrighted works for distribution is illegal and considered unjust.
Argue, rebel, fight for your cause, but in the mean time the idea is to obey the laws. I know that sounds incredibly lame (I'm no angel), but it's the basic idea. Use at your own discretion, understand the consequences. - drgmdp, on 01/13/2009, -0/+1"portrayal of the tragedy and joy of the human condition is not on display here"
is not? - umbrellainabin, on 01/14/2009, -0/+1***** THE RIAA!!!!!
- Elranzer, on 01/13/2009, -0/+1If it's on TBP it's on ISOhunt and other, better, faster trackers.
- inactive, on 01/13/2009, -0/+1Good thing I found what looks like the RIAA bus in an appropriate location?
http://www.travelscoop.co.nz/wp-content/priscilla- ... - IamNomad, on 01/13/2009, -1/+1will it blend?
- roxgod666, on 01/13/2009, -3/+2The Black Pearl?
- xprojects, on 01/13/2009, -2/+1@zeabu: Not everything comes in a package. You talk about education but you ignore the work of philosophers, law makers, and history that came to the conclusion that man is entitled to his property. Maybe you should go to the bookstore with a scanner and scan a few texts of Marx and Paine, two philosophers that you'd likely agree with and may change your ideals.
- xprojects, on 01/13/2009, -4/+2Actually, funny you should ask, the bus was probably designed, manufactured and supplied by a major corporation - without which the bus would be impossible to make - and ironically enough, the very thing "The Pirate Bay" fights against.
- xprojects, on 01/13/2009, -9/+1What makes you think I'm angry? I'm not.
Your argument of copying versus theft is as stupid and ignorant as they come. I've seen the blocks of text, no worries. I even spent most of my teenage years downloading as much useless pirated software as I could possibly find. I'm well aware of the thought process behind it.
You should go educate yourself on intellectual property laws as well as the philosophies behind a human's right to possession and the governing body. It is, in fact, already decided by the populace that this is stealing and it's unlikely that will change - ever.
