- anorris, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4To all who call it fake: Its google's usual way of trying things with a small user base. Every, say, 1 in 100 users or 1 in 1,000 users gets a cookie set and they get sent a different page. This is a trial of something they are playing with to see what people think.
And not fake. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1^ REMOVED BY BLOGGER
- modpancake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Google ALWAYS tests new ideas on a very small, probably randomized group of people, so this definitely isn't fake. For a time, Google was even giving out Gmail invitations on its front page to select IP ranges... this was back when Gmail was only beginning to break out of scarcity.
- CrazyYossarian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I uploaded it to my site, Im not using the bandwidth.
Digg community you have 25 gigs, go!
http://www.procrastinationfilms.com/googlenew6au.jpg - yellowbkpk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've had this interface for quite some time. It started showing up for me a few months ago and I really don't like it. I have cleared my cookies a couple times to get back to the original interface. This is definitely not fake.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2when will you digg retards learn to HOST YOUR OWN FILES for *****'s sake. uploading a pic to a free "imageshack" account and putting a link to it on digg.com is one of the stupidest things you can ever do, since it will be up for like a minute before it gets bandwidth-raped.
- anthony808, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yawn
- Phillbo88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0none of the links worked for me.
- Yankidank, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I agree with the "host your own pics" comment above. Please don't use free image accounts in the future that have bandwidth limits. This is digg, it's known for using a lot of bandwidth.
- konspence, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Eww this screenshot is ugly. A three column google search result makes me want to use scroogle.com
What's next? Google-results looking like Yahoo!-results? it's already pretty close - Blight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm sorry it's a duplicate I searched and didn't find anything but by now this is the most popular
- Blueflie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Digg effect......
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Try Flickr or Blogger
- Blight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I mixed rapidshare and imageshack, I thought they both had unlimited bandwith
- Jaymoon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why not cache it?
Unlimited bandwidth to host the image here.... http://img96.imageshack.us.nyud.net:8090/img96/7205/googlenew6au.jpg - mingistech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thats how google looks if your browser doesn't load the Style Sheet properly.
When he refreshed the page... it loaded the CSS and was back to normal. - usurp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0its not fake, on my parents PC its also like that
http://www.248am.com/mark/internet/new-google-look/ - dyslexicsUNTIED, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@mingistech
so when it doesntl oad the style sheet properly it comes up with a whole new table on the side with all the links and it shows the number of results within each category? - zerokool04, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Google test there new features on IP ranges intregrating them slowly, so just going to the same results page isn't goig to make a difference.
- a1programmer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It's not fake, and I'm digging the article of the guy who posted it first.
- HiddenS3crets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Maybe... looks like ***** though
- jessecrouch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0nice browser =)
- Zorlak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hmm, it is interesting how that keeps happening. I don't know if anyone else took notice or not, but when I search for whax on the regular interface I get 370,000 results, where in this image they only got 302,000. Is it possible the new interface isn't searching the entire live index? I ran the exact same query as was in the screen shot, but got 70,000 more results... I still don't think it to be a fake though. Anyone else have thoughts or comments?
- Laughingman234, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ok...I'm sorry...guess not...what servers is this showing up on?
- usurp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yeah i don't like the new design. google is nice cuz its simple, this ugly left sidebar does not keep things simple
- albrad84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think it looks pretty cool, actually. The stuff on the left side is pretty useful.
This seems like an awfully strange thing for someone to make a fake mockup of. - globo33, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Supposed it were no fake it could show the recent status of the currently running update (BigDaddy).
Better suggestions? - dannywsu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Is it just me, or is ImageShack worthless?! Go Flickr....
- Tyler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If Google changes to that layout, I might just have to change to a diffrent search engine.
- j0keR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm pretty sure I have seen this before... or have seen alternate results pages and thought it was an error of some sort.
- gaminrey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The results being different are most likely due to the story that I believe was posted here a few days ago about Google changing their algorithm. I have tested that other search version and it does come back with different results.
- Blight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ah, just found out about the ads. Do a couple of google searches, sometimes there are no ads. and there are never ads if you search for whax :P
- vijaymv_in, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0good
- mikeazorin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Google does funky things sometimes, so I'd believe this. After all, considering how many hundreds of requests they get every second, it's not hard to believe some request could get mixed up with a test server of sorts.
- koiphish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Digg killed the guys image bandwidth. They took it offline. Grrr.
- energyblue, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You can't say its a new interface.
all they did was add a toolbar.
I was thinking new logo! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0blight you are annoying with your post on your post... besides the link is dead now so no digg.
- Blight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't think it's a mistake, google is very good at this sort of thing.
keeps them popular, even though they only released crap for some time. (google talk, google desktop ect.) - redalienzero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0not a fake... digg
- ehmjay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i would like to see the stuff on the left on the right...still nice looking though. clean as always.
- VipeNess, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it still is smaller on graphics, and loads very quick, exactly what google.com is always going, google.com is used by main pro it's guys to make sure their net connection is working properly.. so them not adding graphics is understandable.
- ahoier, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lol. yea, imageshack is broken :P and damn, it did load kinda slow.
bandwidth aint cheap :P
Now, a question for those of you that see this "new design" on all/most of your google results, what IP range(s) are you using? lol.
Im in the 24.110.* range and google looks normal here. Use http://ipchicken.com/ to see what range you are in. - thediggerguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0pretty crappy update
- Gatesophile, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@matrixclown
"It's Opera actually it's what I'm using now
It's cool because you can close the broswer and then open it up again to the same pages"
hmm... I use Avant and it does the same thing... - officecamel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You should try a Alt-Prnt Scrn so we don't have to see that bland taskbar.
And, your initial link isn't working.
And, your story is a duplicate.
No Digg. - Blight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0damn how can I get it back?
- Laughingman234, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Are we sure this isnt just a result of using one of the two new servers running possibly a more extended algorithm...WHICH WAS POSTED EARLIER!
could this algorithm compare the sections and give you a little retardi-bar on the side? cmon...seriously now. - Blight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0About the ads, that could be opera... In the earlier versions of gmail the ads were sometimes centerd in the screen over the email.
Could be that opera is screwing them... or that the page reverted back to normal mid download. - xioner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i dont see the big deal.
I am sure that ads will get put in somewhere, and if theydid this it would just be an extension of the features already present in their user search history. - ayjayem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Seems like A/B testing, albeit with a very small sample getting the new "B" page. Amazon.com (and many other sites) do the exact same thing on a regular basis.
