Just yesterday I was reading about this guy! http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/8014318.stm - Saitekc, on 05/01/2009, -1/+6I have no doubt that somewhere in their user base, Facebook has quite a few members who are much more intelligent than you, and I for the most part I don't think everyone on their is as stupid as you might like to think. Get off of the high horse their buddy, not using twitter or Facebook doesn't make you special or something.

hardly surprising. - amabaie, on 05/01/2009, -0/+3This just shows the military is being realistic.

- DarkBlueAnt, on 05/01/2009, -0/+3Before people start praising this as smart or creepy... I just want to share one little story.
The first time I went on Twitter, I added all of Twitter's "suggested users." In my Twitter updates I saw John McCain posting something like "Meeting the Japanese ambassador." A couple of minutes later I refreshed the page and Tila Tequila had responded with "I LOVE JAPAN AND I'M HANGING OUT WITH YOUR DAUGHTER LATER!!!!!!!!"
So yeah... I can't take Twitter seriously... - OneFreespirit, on 05/01/2009, -0/+2With the economy as it stands the recruiters have their handful right now. Standards have been jacked up, bonuses have been slashed, no more waivers are given and they are still over quota with loads of people wanting to join.
So I would not worry about being stalked... - BSisXD, on 05/01/2009, -3/+5Catch up on your current events. They are using reverse psychology in European military now. Before it was mandatory, it no longer is or will be by the end of 2010 in most countries, but people want to go now because it pays more.
And I hate the military, people that come out are all ***** up. All they talk about is the big guns that they shot, and many of them develop serious health issues such as PTSD, diabetes and exercise induced asthma just to name a few. - DarthLamp, on 05/01/2009, -0/+2I'd be seriously freaked out if one of my friends added a recruiter that started to try and talk to me.
- AndrewDB, on 05/01/2009, -1/+3I twittered the fact that your sick of stories about people who use twitter.
- ostracize, on 05/01/2009, -0/+2The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

- jsmith212600, on 05/01/2009, -1/+3Ahh, the antimilitary diggers show their true colors every time we have an article about recruiting. Hey *****, would you rather we have a mandatory service requirement like your pals in Europe?
- prossi10, on 05/01/2009, -0/+2Why? Are you too incompetent or weak to just say "No, thank you. I'm not interested."?
- borez, on 05/01/2009, -0/+2Just finished eating bacon sandwich, sign is flashing DEFCON 1 LOL, incoming flashy signs with pictures of little space rockets on big board, lot's of them? Did anybody catch Family Guy last night, so ***** funny, must go, red phone keeps ringing. Laters.

Don't be childish, that comment clearly showed that bryan hates gay people, and had nothing to do with anything else. - BoneStamp, on 05/01/2009, -0/+1@USArmy
http://twitter.com/USArmy - OneFreespirit, on 05/01/2009, -0/+2Sorry dude, the fact is humans are a violent race. You think that by changing systems you'll change human nature. See what happened with the Russians. Nothing changed then. Nothing changed now. Yet they went through 3 swaps of systems that was supposed to make everything better.
Indigenous societies less violent. Please. You wouldn't survive 5 ***** minutes.
Our system is not perfect but it's where we are at and it's far better than anything before. - eShinn, on 05/01/2009, -0/+1The best moment for that *ever*.

- jlan, on 05/01/2009, -0/+1Your mom uses to twitter to meet people for *blank*
- SalmonGod, on 05/01/2009, -1/+2I had a recruiter call me when I turned 18 and it took like half an hour to convince him that there was no way he was going to get me. He just wouldn't accept "No. Not interested."

Elaine: Tomorrow, why don't we drive up the coast to that little seafood place?
Ted: My orders came through. My squadron ships out tomorrow, we're bombing the storage depots at Daiquiri at 18:00 hours. We're coming in from the north, below their radar.
Elaine : When will you be back?
Ted : I can't tell you that! It's classified. - gerogerohey, on 05/02/2009, -0/+0So can enemy forces join the group?
- OneFreespirit, on 05/01/2009, -0/+1Check this talk on TED about the actual decline of violence in modern society
http://www.ted.com/talks/view/id/163 - inactive, on 05/02/2009, -2/+2I trust those people as far as I could piss on them. I don't know how far that is but I'd like to find out!
- anexanhume, on 05/01/2009, -2/+2You're being dugg down because you don't know how to read your own constitution. It protects against "cruel and unusual punishment." Just because someone isn't a US citizen doesn't mean the values founded by the constitution no longer apply. That's how ethnocentrism starts.
- SalmonGod, on 05/01/2009, -1/+1You're gullible if you believe that about indigenous cultures. Media loves to characterize natives as stupid and/or violent. Old western portrayals of Native Americans are especially laughable.
Anthropologists who actually research this stuff will tell you that most indigenous cultures (who make up roughly 98% of human history) contain little to no structured authority, less violence, and more individual freedom. There's a lot less mental illness, too, which is mainly a product of our demanding and constrained modern lifestyles.
And you really need to think about the argument of authority for protection.
First off, who watches the watchmen? Who protects us from the people we give power to protect us? They're every bit as prone to error and wrongdoing as we are. How do we justify unequal distribution of power to people who, as human beings, are no better than us?
Second, do you really think that everybody around you will just turn into a bunch of violent psychos as soon as some authority figure (who most likely IS a violent psycho) isn't around to say no? Would you just go around killing whoever you please? Would your friends or family?
Third, who offers better protection? A government body who has no personal knowledge of you or interest in your safety for reasons other than their own paycheck? Or friends, families, and neighbors who have personal knowledge of you and your situation, and/or genuine interest in your well being?
Fourth, consider the relationship between authority and the bystander effect. We've become a society that thinks calling 911 is the end all of personal responsibility to a witnessed emergency. We're conditioned by the media to be afraid of everyone, afraid of the legality of stepping into the lives of others even to help, and resign ourselves to the idea that it's just not our job. Take away the fear-mongering propaganda and the excuses which project personal responsibility off from ourselves and onto authority figures, and people would figure out pretty quickly how to act as functioning communities again.
Here's a modern example for you.
