- dudestuff, on 07/14/2009, -0/+9Congrats, crickets... You’ve made permanent enhancements to your body! The Cyborg perk instantly adds +10% to your Damage, Poison, and Radiation Resistances, and 10 points to the Energy Weapons skill.
- Kipu2021, on 07/14/2009, -0/+7"only for detecting chemical and biological agents on the battlefield."..
I find this difficult to believe. - Luminoth545, on 07/14/2009, -0/+5Those aren't crickets.
- Ruger11mcrdpi, on 07/14/2009, -0/+5I F'N Love DARPA. I had a Marine Major come speak to my unit from the war fighting lab and all he could go on and on about was flying jeeps and UAVs... I told him I never needed a flying jeep in Iraq, but I sure would have loved a bullet proof vest that didn't weigh 45lbs, rub my sides raw until they bled after a long patrol, or prevent me from firing my rifle in the prone. But yeah, build me a flying jeep! They just don't get it. The industry drives production, not what the troops actually need. This is why when I go into combat, my M-16 has inferior magazines that fail, so I had to buy my own, I had to carry 12 batteries in 4 different types for my different pieces of gear, was issued an untested sight for our M203s that sucked until they broke (which fortunately happened quickly).
Jeez. yeah, robot crickets, why not. You know we already are issued M22 ACADAs for airborne chemical weapon detection M8 and M9 chem detecting paper for liquid agents and the old M8A1a that works fine... we can even use the Army's M21 standoff system on their Fox vehicles to detect bio and chem weapon use at a distance, but yeah, we need crickets that can do this. WTF??? - inactive, on 07/14/2009, -0/+5Was this post written by a robot insect of some kind? i do not understand it.
- sunspots22, on 07/14/2009, -0/+4Thank you for being the first to mention this.
- macmcraeart, on 07/14/2009, -0/+4cyborg cricket would make a badass band name. or comic strip.
- mrgeekguy, on 07/14/2009, -0/+3So that's burrowing in my brain.
- 123bucklemyshow, on 07/14/2009, -0/+3Buried for inaccuracy.
- RedS0x, on 07/14/2009, -0/+3Aww, I was hoping for little cameras instead of eyes. It's still pretty cool, though. :P
- RandomGorilla, on 07/14/2009, -0/+3*chirp-chirp...... chirp-chirp..... chirp-ch-KABOOM*
"You were right, Bob, there WAS a landmine there. I owe you a coke." - inactive, on 07/14/2009, -0/+3Nuke 'em from space, it's the only way to be sure.
/aliens - krisrm, on 07/14/2009, -0/+3It's a ***** cyborg cricket. Why the hell wouldn't it?
- FitteMas, on 07/14/2009, -0/+2what are you saying cricket, trouble at the old mill?
- BickNailey, on 07/14/2009, -0/+2Rad Crickets
- Ruger11mcrdpi, on 07/14/2009, -0/+2no they want to make a small ground vehicle that can carry a fire team, that can fly, and be flown by a regular grunt, not a pilot. it's the stupidest thing I've ever heard of.
- thehyker, on 07/14/2009, -2/+4Front page already?
- DelMonte, on 07/14/2009, -0/+1Will they make electronic cricket sounds when a government official makes a boring speech in front of an audience that doesn't care?
- sarahlee39, on 07/14/2009, -0/+1Especially since they got the idea while visiting China. Could have been a little more smooth about that one.
- KJ83, on 07/15/2009, -0/+1Don't they understand that most people are ***** drivers in two dimensions, and that three would be a disaster?
- Hidemons, on 07/14/2009, -0/+1I know they're only insects but if the technology for this science spreads out a little bit in terms of species this could get really messed up and cruel.
- rockon4life45, on 07/14/2009, -0/+1I for one, welcome our cyborg cricket overlords.
- alsahinvz, on 07/14/2009, -0/+1the horror, the horror
- tr0j, on 07/14/2009, -0/+1I understand that the Danish word for a cricket translates to "sheepchicken". Now that would make for an interesting cyborg.
- Swivelstick, on 07/14/2009, -1/+1I don't know why people digg you down syntaxgs. As know doubt they'll be made in China.
- krisrm, on 07/14/2009, -1/+1Flying jeeps? I was under the impression those were called "helicopters"... Military tech is far too advanced, nowadays.
- RonADiSH, on 07/14/2009, -1/+1Im pretty sure ive seen this video years ago, or it was cockroaches
still pretty cool - Abram730, on 07/15/2009, -0/+0Better vests were made.. but I'm guessing they didn't pay off the right people to get them too you..
Dragon skin IV offers more protection then a 1 inch steel plate and better conforms to the body. Unfortunately after soaking Dragon skin in corrosive compounds for extended periods of time they were able to shoot threw it.. A standard not applied to your vest. That's why the Army wouldn't do a side by side test... because the standards were different.
Flying jeeps and remote controlled crickets are go though...
If you want a deeper look into what's wrong in military procurement and thinking.
