- basye, on 10/04/2008, -4/+74For a second there I thought this came from The Onion.
- AlanFang, on 10/06/2008, -2/+48To bad paypal and ebay still both ***** suck. How about not screwing over sellers with illegitimate chargebacks and charging obscene fees?
- mrspurs16, on 10/04/2008, -0/+34It's about time!
- crice, on 10/06/2008, -1/+31Still no word on sellers who get defrauded by buyers...
- bixby1, on 10/04/2008, -0/+29Having been victimized by this once, I applaud paypal. (golf clap, not a standing O)
- inactive, on 10/06/2008, -3/+24what about the buyer defrauding the seller. huh? ***** paypal.
- GamingForever, on 10/04/2008, -6/+26They should of done that a long time ago.
- ThatGeek, on 10/06/2008, -3/+20fta The new protection does not cover “intangible goods” such as airline tickets, or motor vehicles
how is a motor vehicle intangible?
i can certainly touch it - MacBookForMe, on 10/04/2008, -1/+17I still don't believe that PR Media spin...
- NathanCH, on 10/06/2008, -0/+13Paypal is terrible for sellers, and it looks like it just got worse! It's especially bad for virtual products such as web designing. I've had a few clients say they've never received the product, and since there is no proof that I sent it, Paypal sides with them. They get 100% of their money back, and I have to pay the stupid fee.
paypalsucks.com - tommyny04, on 10/06/2008, -1/+11Niceeeeeeeeeeeeee ....
Time to sell my 15 laptops that I don't have ... now, everybody wins!!! - inactive, on 10/06/2008, -0/+9Nice try Onion... I know your tricks!
- AmyVernon, on 10/04/2008, -1/+10Seriously.
- SelfHomicide, on 10/06/2008, -0/+8If he was a man at a bar, how were you frauded on ebay?
- Ajajadude, on 10/06/2008, -1/+9It's "something they've been considering for a while." Great, protecting your customers is something that takes a company 6 years to make a decision on shows how much they value anyone who uses their service.
- CreativeGuy, on 10/05/2008, -2/+10Nice, but nowhere near enough. They've simply got to do better.
- darkened, on 10/06/2008, -0/+6What do you mean it's not protected? They will refund the money to the buyer even if the seller did complete the transaction no matter how perfect the seller's feedback is and how many sales they've had on digital items. Digital items are by far the most fraudulent transactions on eBay.... for the sellers.
Which was why when I sold game goods on eBay I refused any person without good feedback to avoid being scammed myself. - heystoopid, on 10/06/2008, -0/+6Alas read the eBay TOS they are also restricting sellers to pay pal only no cash, money orders , other cc's , bank deposits , COD or local direct pickup either for small parcels .
eBay very deliberately skirts the laws in all countries where papal is registered like in corporate friendly Lichtenstein for European operations using straw directors or lists it in places in such away where the absolute minimum banking and credit laws do not apply , so it is not a bank or a licensed money lender , thus if it filed bankruptcy all those with accounts become last in line unsecured creditors , which also puts it outside all consumer protection laws in most countries.
"paypalsucks.com" has well documented evidence as to eBay's less then honest out of public view activities - kthxbai85, on 10/06/2008, -0/+5Sounds like a great way to get banned from ebay.
- Tubal22, on 10/06/2008, -0/+5Starting in a few months, ebay won't let you accept anything other than paypal.
While this helps buyers, it's another nail in the coffin of sellers.
Ebay = amazon jr. - Khast, on 10/06/2008, -0/+4Yes, Paypal protects buyers fairly nicely now....I'd like to see what their mythological "Seller Protection" is all about....
For one within the US. If you sell an item, you require tracking information, just in case the buyer claims they never received the item. What happens when you ship outside the US where there is no guaranteed tracking by the USPS? (Yeah, I know the customs form doubles as tracking info....20% of the time....or less.) Hell....I've gotten a delivery confirmation number in the US which worked..and 3 days later said it was an invalid tracking number..... I've had receipts, tracking numbers, ect....the buyer usually wins.
And let us not forget...if you pay via Paypal, and use a credit card...if the card company goes in favor of the buyer (Which it usually does...if the item isn't as described, or not received..(Tracking number doesn't count..)) You get notification....but 99% of the time, the funds will be reversed, without anything you can do about it.
Now, since eBay will only accept Paypal...(Being the most secure online payment system...) we sellers may just have to put up with the *****, or find somewhere else to sell.
Oct 22, 2008....let the screwing begin! - darkmagician777, on 10/06/2008, -0/+4I was defrauded one time trying to get a cheaper laptop. The Auction was pulled by EBay " AFTER" They took my money.
I challenged it with PayPal and they said its not their problem. I was SOL but good thing I made the purchase with my credit card! I challenged it with Citibank and Citibank got me my money back after PayPal said no. EBay said its not there problem when they pulled the auction after. PayPal was the same crap.
YOU CAN CHALLENGE PAYPAL FRAUD AND WIN WHEN ITS FRAUD! GO THROUGH YOUR CREDIT CARD ABOVE PAYPAL. Citibank was so good they got an answer through PayPal faster then I could on my own. Never deal cash. Use Your Credit card to protect your purchase and if PayPal doesnt want to listen to you. BY all means use your credit protection.
:-) - junkimages, on 10/06/2008, -6/+10should have*
- unfromcool, on 10/06/2008, -0/+4Yeah, they should refund us TWICE! Amiright?!?!
- windphoenix, on 10/06/2008, -0/+3PayPal has been less than forthcoming about their refund policy with the buyers. They keep telling you that your order is 100% protected, but for instance if you buy a digital product and don't receive it, it is not protected with PayPal. It's great that PayPal is finally doing something right but still has ways to go before gaining a higher level of trust among consumers.
- wah2war, on 10/06/2008, -1/+4Yes, I`ve been scammed once, and I get the refund from Paypal after I opened a dispute.
- dorkdork777, on 10/06/2008, -0/+3I'm in Britain, and was scammed £120 out of pocket a few years ago. One email later and PayPal refunded all but £7 - why they didn't refund that last bit I have no idea, but hey, it's better than nothing! :)
- haiduz, on 10/06/2008, -0/+3what was he paying, cause ill double it. Besides, im totally legit.
-SteveB@microsoft.com - john2kx, on 10/06/2008, -0/+3***** Paypal, seriously. The sooner we get some much-needed competition there, the better.
- Chakat, on 10/06/2008, -2/+5Unfortunately, Ebay's making steps to make payment with anything other than paypal next to impossible. Until they make it so you can use alternate payment systems, like google checkout, ebay can go suck their mother's ***** in hell.
- ToastPop, on 04/17/2009, -1/+4Can someone explain how this is different from before? I'm honestly wondering, because I bought something on eBay that never arrived, submitted my problem to PayPal resolution centre, and after a few weeks I got my money back, and this was more than a year ago.
- Jack8274, on 10/06/2008, -1/+4Standing O sounds like it's from the Karma Sutra.
- Technopundit, on 10/06/2008, -0/+3EBAY + CHINA = RIPOFF
World economy, my left foot. - joshuawilde, on 10/06/2008, -0/+2You only don't have 15 laptops? I don't have 137 laptops, maybe more!
- adml_shake, on 10/06/2008, -2/+4Lucky you, It's been 8 monts since I've opened mine and all they tell me is "Well sir we can't proceede until we hear back from the seller."
- Olida, on 10/06/2008, -0/+2It is all too common for ebay to pull an auction listing after the auction has ended and *after* you have paid. Buyer protection counts for nothing in this circumstance. Good on you for actually getting your money back.
- leamanc, on 10/06/2008, -0/+2Hmmm, I thought this was already policy. I know I have gotten refunds two or three times from my early days of eBay'ing/PayPal'ing. And I've been forced to cough up refunds to buyers who claimed to have not gotten the items I shipped them (or that they were "substantially different than represented in the eBay listing").
- holygram, on 10/06/2008, -1/+3I was scammed one time, and it was probably only 2 or 3 weeks before I got a full refund. Very speedy, convenient transaction, imo...they seem to be on top of things, at least for those of us who aren't in Britain.
- purzzzell, on 10/06/2008, -0/+2The ***** seller that PAYS THEM.
- qazwix, on 10/06/2008, -0/+2WOW! The first thing e-bay has done right in a very long time.
- purzzzell, on 10/06/2008, -0/+2Funny eBay pulled the auction, AND owns Paypal, yet it's not Paypal's problem....
- PullingTeeth, on 10/06/2008, -0/+2Your recent comments suck very hard.
- trademarkhero, on 10/06/2008, -1/+3It's a good start for Paypal. Hopefully this is a sign of better things to come.
- Olfster, on 10/06/2008, -0/+1Wow. Please tell the story. Was it a car or something of large value?
- purzzzell, on 10/06/2008, -0/+1Where in the world are you? This is referring to UK.
- kthxbai85, on 10/10/2008, -0/+1First, I admit I didn't read the article well enough; apparently the refund policy from ebay doesn't cover cars in the first place. Second of all, 'a car that turned out to be fake' really is, I grant, a poor way to have worded that. The bottom line was that he paid 6,000 for a car he never got, and he lost the money.
- sethrubenstein, on 10/06/2008, -0/+1Wow, it's about time. This is great news as I feel more secure about buying from people with less than stellar ratings on eBay.
- purzzzell, on 10/06/2008, -0/+1a "fake" car?
- Steeple, on 10/06/2008, -0/+1i feel bad for you as a person, but if you open yourself up to that kind of loss in any business, you got the kick in the pants you asked for.
- adml_shake, on 10/06/2008, -0/+1Believe what you want, I've got a folder in my outlook box full of emails.
