- Naikrovek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8paypal blocks these things for a reason. they're a liability to them. as a site that accepts credit cards, they are liable for fraudulent purchases, as well as fraudulent sales. for sites with small traffic they know they can eat a certain amount of money, but sites dealing with tens of thousands of dollars, that's a lot of money that paypal could have to eat. if the million dollar homepage sells 100 pixels to someone but they don't put his image and link up, it comes down to paypal to refund the money. that's the law, and they have to be available to refund that money for up to 6 months.
in the past paypal has been abused this way - lots of people buy from a certain vendor, then in a coordinated fashion, all demand their money back, usually because the vendor never intended to honor the purchases in the first place. the vendor sneaks away leaving paypal to refund all that money.
thats why they shut these things down. anyone needing to accept a million dollars via credit card should validate the credit card purchases themselves through their own bank. - 5blocksfree, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3There are several posters here who just don't get it, saying he's a scam artist, and that people who send him money deserve to lose it. Until I can see a rational reason to believe otherwise, I think quite the opposite is true. It is a VERY INNOVATIVE idea...the people who send him money for ad placement benefit, because they gain the potential of not only being seen by a huge number of unique visitors, but by being associated with such a unique effort. The page is a natural draw anyway, because it's something that has never been done before. He benefits, quite obviously, from the money that people send. It's a win-win situation.
If you still have problems with this, I'd suggest that you have a problem with capitalism in general. - compu73rg33k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2People want PayPal to be something it's not. They want to use paypal to traffic thousands of dollars, but PayPal doesn't want that amount of responsibility. People need to realize this and if they're going to be collecting xx,xxx.xx dollars they shouldn't use paypal becuase it's obvious paypal doesn't want to be a part of it. Stop wishing paypal was something it isn't.
- piwy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i'm pretty sure somewhere in paypal's licence agreement there's written that they can shutdown your account if they feel the need to.
i don't think their playing netcop, their protecting themselves - stevec5000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Who cares and why would anyone send him money anyway?
- jbum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1A lot of the posts here are assuming that someone at paypal made a decision to block the account. Most likely, this "someone" was a computer.
Paypal is associated with EBay, which has an enormous amount of fraud. It would be wasteful for them to hire enough employees to monitor all the accounts for fraud in real time. We're talking a huge number of transactions.
So, most likely, they have a system in place which blocks accounts when certain parameters are met - such as a meteoric rise in income. Eventually, perhaps in a few days time, a real human will get around to looking at the account, and may even reinstate it.
Paypal also blocked a number of Hurricane Katrina charities, probably for similar reasons. - reddomaha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1bad publicity is good publicity. For Million Dollar Hompage. He wants traffic, and recieves money for advertising based on traffic. Everyone that has commented has gone the site. 44 unique visitors, times the amount of clicks and stickiness, whola, mooohhla$$$
- portis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Finally they shut down the money flowing to that site. Was waiting for that to happen.
- konrad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1moorey, don't even try arguing with these idiots on digg, it's not worth it. most of them are < 12 years of age, just let it go :/
- capran, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Scam artist? I just checked the site out, looks pretty cool. I wished I had thought of this when I was 21. Then again there was no PayPal back then.
- turbo2ltr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wait till the IRS comes knocking.
I still don't think this advertising model works (from an advertiser's POV) by any means. It might be a half unique idea, but it's worthless real estate. - coliv77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, I don't necessarily agree with the site's business model but I've been doing business with Paypal since 2001 for my personal email sales. Then suddenly, without explanation, they froze my account and asked for some documents. I sent them but they decided that I was risky. What the??? In any case, I'm now left without a Paypal account and would love to learn about alternatives.
You can imagine how frustrated I feel. - ziffel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3That is the stupidest website I've ever seen. If you send that guy money, you deserve to lose it.
- BluParadox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hahahaha, the millionpennyhomepage is great. 10,000 is a much more reasonable goal from something stupid like this, and $1/10px is more more reasonable as well. He'll never get as many viewers though. Thought that was funny.
Scam or not, you have people paying for non-tangable products here, and there is no way to confirm whether a product was actually delivered by the guy or not (at least not for paypal). This makes credit-card chargebacks a HUGE potential problem, and makes it a much bigger risk for paypal than it's worth.
Chances are that it want just flagged as an account to be suspended on its own, he probably got a few chargebacks filed against him that they had to pay, which automatically disabled his account pending him presenting an arguement against why those chargebacks being valid (so that paypal didnt have to pay it, this means paypal would need to go to court).
When you look at the kind of people buying space on the site (essentially mostly spammers) it's easy to see that they probably get higher than average chargebacks. It just doesnt make sense for paypal to be in that business. Think of this whole thing sorta like normal credit cards and your credit rating. This guys customers have very very bad credit compaired to most customers, and they dont want to take that risk. What they probably should have done is bumped him into a high risk category and charged him higher handling fees (everyone who complains about paypal's fees should try getting a good merchant account somewhere to do their own CC processing), but to my knowledge they dont have anything like that. - jesusphreak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I actually have to agree with that jkfan. I've thought it several times before.
I mean, think about it. You make it looks like people are buying your pixels and you make it look like there's a ton of people coming to your site and actually clicking on the pixels, but there aren't that many people actually doing it. But since people THINK its happening, they'll buy space because they think "hey, that site is getting a lot of traffic and other people are doing it"!
I too bet that a vast majority of those sites did not actually buy advertising. - shawnblog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1carbonated water and sugar syrup in a bottle that is marked up over a thousand percent is as much or more of a scam than this
- nyartmaker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have joined a similar site but with a significant difference. They pay up to 70% in network referral commission for pixel ad sales.
Now everyone can benefit. Check it here

http://millionshekelsite.co.il
go check it... - mikeblake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You can buy blocks from the site and add your own banners/ads which contain link to your own page.
There is one million blocks and one hundred million pixels in site and you can decide which place you purchase.
http://www.milliondollaroreuropage.com - exBBoi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Paypal suck! try smth better like MoneyBookers they dont freez ppl accounts for nthn!
- hardcoredj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Paypal should be shut down on the basis of bad business practices. I've seen for too many people have their accounts frozen for the lamest of reasons while scammers continue doing business without conflict. We seriously need a legitimate alternative to paypal.
- AdamCo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If jkfan is wrong, and he really has sold all these pixels, it is because of all the current attention he is getting from being on Digg and other news/technology sites. Once the site loses all that attention, then you can expect that rate of sales to drop. I think it's just a novelty that will lose it's fun soon. That's just my opinion though, I hope he can pay for college.
- eyesx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Many more pixel homepages
http://pchere.blogspot.com/2005/09/pixel-homepages-new-internet-marketing.html - bubbazanetti, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Paypal is fine. If this person is looking to run so much money, then he can get his own credit card account...with online transactions. You pay per transaction, and there is a overall fee...but if you are running 10s of thousands of dollars worth of transactions then the cost is negligible.
- lovefreak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0not another pixel-site? check this out instead pretty interesting idea.

- FlakyJake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Another good one is http://milliondollarcrossword.com, which is climbing the rankings. Believe he's got some big names about to sign up, and speaking to him by email starting to deliver more in news and advertising twists on that site for advertisers and clicks alike.
Also has http://milliondollarstudents.com which is a good idea although suggested to him might be a bit expensive for the students at $10 square so suggested $5 might get more takers... - bearclawtuna, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nothing but problems..problems...problems from Paypal. I ditched them long ago. If you are interested in any type of smooth transaction try getting your own merchant account, and use it for people buying off of Ebay too.
- TimeThis.com, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Forget the pixel hype! Purchase small blocks of time at TimeThis.com! Buy an hour or more and have your ad displayed at the same time, every day, for seven consecutive days! You can also compete for text link placement via monetary donations.
http://www.timethis.com - discoboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0When it comes to "time traders" instead of "pixel pimps" I think this one is more sofisticated:
http://rentaminute.com - Jenn_K, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I just bought pixels to have a pic of my boyfriend and I on this site...awesome way to show 'the world' that you care for someone...also would be a good idea...really original and not JUST about advertising like a lot of other sites... check it out and let me know what you think about it! :-)

http://www.marilyncarolyn.com/milliondollarsignpage.htm - purefun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Try http://www.ebaypixels.com - as much as the idea is similar, this one is offered only for eBay sellers with high feedback score and it links to all their items for sale. Good idea, as long as they keep the data actual (remove the old not-active sellers). Wish them well, I've bookmarked it and will check for progress. Oh, they also do a Contest with a 12 Mega Pixel :) Digital Camera - good prize for that business - all you need to do is follow the clues by searching (clicking) the advertisers pixels. That at least looks like they try to get the visitors to click...
- amdman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Paypal suck! try smth better like MoneyBookers they dont freez ppl accounts for nthn!"
http://www.halfsalot.net now accepts Moneybookers... - WingedPower, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Looks like alot of interesting business systems are arising on the net. Definitely a "good thing". Though interesting to see the sheer number of copycat sites like http://www.millionpennyhomepage.com and http://www.halfabuckpixels.com popping up. Good for millionpennies, btw. That's awesome how quickly those pixels are going!
- drseth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0He's up over $40k now!!!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't know....this guy seems to have a point. There is a distinct lack of "t1ts" in the original :)
I normally can't stand people jumping on the band-wagon with their cheap rip offs, but this one did make me laugh!

{s} - million-pixel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Paypal is like that. Try www.millionpixelpage.com - it's free and so you don't have this problem with paypal!!! Million Pixel Page is like million dollar page, but free!
- manatee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I predict he will be unblocked very soon. I think they only block when there is a substantial increase in income. I bet he'll be unblocked by Monday.
- ronmojohny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is a great bargain for website owners, as his pagerank increases, so does the advertiser's page rank also increase, as they are linked to him. A page rank 6 website will charge about $150/month for a link, not $100 for 5 years or longer. I'm monitoring the PR and when it hits 4, I'm a buyer. (this is a webmaster thing) By the way, F##$ paypal.
- tastypastry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0that guy is just a lazy slacker
- esourcemag, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Its not a scam.
However, after browsing the site, you have to wonder what happens if he breaks his end of the feel... Pay Pal made a good move here and I think most people know it.
I am tempted to buy a piece of history myself, but at a 400 dollar price tag, it ain't happening (I refuse to buy just a 10x10 pixel). In the end, this guy could be the real deal, or he could just get tired of it all and stop the website. Its not like its an actual business (a corp) so if he stops, then what? - 3magine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0jkfan87, a 5000% in 4 days of launching is quite a jump. I've been watching his hits on alexa, and he is getting TONS of hits. Even if many of those blocks haven't been bought, and he actually just put the links himself, just because of all the diggers, and the exposure he gets, will bring potential advertisers some good hits, and for $100 it's more then worth it. He has one testimonial on the site, which could be a load of bs, but if not, then it really is an opportunity, even if only for the duration of the novelty period.
- alexhhhh, on 11/28/2008, -0/+0I think he made it a requirement to buy 100 pixels because just selling individual pixels by themselves would be a waste, and not very good for advertising (though it's sad that something like this is really only being used for advertising, as if there wasn't enough of that on the internet).
- AdamCo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have to question the peoples intelligence that are calling him a genius and I could have swore I saw something like this a long time ago, I could be wrong though. When I first saw the site it was like deja vu, so I checked dates and stuff of the site to see if it was a new site. Maybe I am imagining things though. But at any rate, selling advertising isn't a new idea and it's in no way a genius idea. It was clever how he did it at best. I personally wouldn't buy it from him and I don't plan on visiting any of the sites, I have hovered my mouse over some just to see what they were, but most of the sites seem pretty flaky.
